I’d say that the biggest way paintball has changed in the last decade (although I’ve only been playing for like 6ish years), is that the gear got a lot more streamlined, lighter, and less clunky in general. Like looking at PE guns the Geo 3 and LV1 and Etek 5, and Emek all came out being way more ergonomic, lighter, and simpler than their predecessors. This trend can also be seen in hoppers which have more sporty low profile shells, tanks which have been getting lighter and smaller for the same size, and even clothes and masks which have gotten smaller and tighter fitting compared to the earlier years of the sport. And yeah, everyone needs to be the best possible ambassador to the sport, especially when the actual game play is rough on new players when they tend to be using heavy guns which are super inaccurate (I always get that complaint from new players) often against the best of us. As a whole we need to work to give them the best possible experience off the field so they will go and buy good gear and keep at it.
Just the refinement of the products being sold is the biggest advancement. Reliability and quality is key to selling products in today's paintball industry. So 2010-2020 id say the ease or the "quality of life" of constantly playing paintball got much better.
Early 2000s were great. I always invited ppl to the field to play and show them the sport. Haven’t played in 12+ years but Now it seems like all teams are stuck up and in their own little bubbles. Totally different vibe...
Started before 2010, but last decade definitely got rid of the upgrade aftermarket. Think of a matrix, shocker, Timmy, etc... how many damn upgrades were needed from, regs, feednecks, asa, boards, bolts, barrel. Now the same top level guns come ready to go without a single upgrade needed. Main thing I see that changed
Man you hit the nail on the head about the ambassador-ship of the sport. Its key. paintball may never be a NFL type sprt- but if it ever got that big - I think it would lose its exclusivity. I really dig sniping out that scared or awkward rental player and having a convo with them or even their parents. It does wonders, and costs us nothing to be good humans. Dig your channel man - keep up the great work!
2010-2020 was the growth of magfed, from just a small niche of converted markers to a full on 1:1 ratio markers, airow guns, growing FSR use and FSR ready markers, and MFOG’s.
from 2010 to 2020 we saw a big advancement in Magfed ! from CRAP4 to the TMC for me it's such an improvement ! oh yeah, and brad you are such a good ambassador !
I wish WDP and WGP made a comeback, and I wanna try to find a hyperball field near by. I miss my 2005 WGP Superstock ninja. That thing would shoot ropes but had to sell it 😢
And the cheapest, you can get a fantastic electro brand new for only a few hundred today. In the early 2000s, that would buy a mech or shitty electro. The "buy in" price is much, much lower these days
Ehhhhh many of those guns have yet to stand the test of time that some old school guns have. I have an original shocker 4x4 (shoebox shocker) that has literally never been resealed or maitenanced in any way and it still holds air and shoots 280 without any shootdown. Id like to see a geo or axe or luxe sit for 20 years and shoot without any bolt stick.
Very true man, met a awesome guy that was great with my nephew who I took for his first time and I honestly say we haven’t missed a weekend until quarantine
2010 - 2020: Hoseless gun designs took over, tournament level mechanical spool valves like the CVO and GMEK became a thing, 10.5 bps became the standard
Think just the whole big game / scenario event scene has expanded exponentially over the last 10 years. That has brought in so many different types of players, and going to those events is such a collection of characters and different types of players.
I've been playing for 25 years and I was a ref for 4. I remember reading a statistic in APG in 2009 that over 50% of paintball players play games on private land instead of paintball fields. That's certainly been true for most of my time playing paintball. What a lot of field owners don't understand is that players in rural areas have to be drawn to a field by something other than "this is a place to play paintball". We can build our own bunkers in our backyards and we're not impressed by some barrels, pallets and inflatables. I have a local field that's had the same crappy terrain since the late 1990s and on the rare occasion when I bring someone who has been playing on our private field, they are inevitably disappointed with the commercial field. The field I used to work at had towers, houses, forts, bunkers, and wrecked vehicles. It was fun to play on that field with terrain people couldn't replicate at home. I think you're right and scenario games draw in these private players who are looking for cool terrain and different ways to play. Those players meet up with other players, form friendships and grow the community. Stories of "Holding the Castle" and having pictures of an actual castle are much better recruiting tool than stories of "The Battle of The Stack of Barrels and One Pallet". Don't get me wrong, I've had great days running from pallet to barrel, but its not an exciting story to get new players interested.
I remember Don! He was the one who directed me to purchase my first paintball gun, a WGP autococker trilogy. He was a great guy with a lot of knowledge of the sport. I took one of his clinics one summer when I first started playing and boy did I learn a lot.
You’ve got great taste. All I own are angels. You’re absolutely right the G7 fly/Gat/06 speed platform is my favorite overall gun to play with and to look at.
I think what has changed the most is the way these paintball companies are becoming more user friendly alot of the bad companies who preyed on the new players who didnt know what they were getting and basically ripping them off. We still have those kind of people and companies but their not as big as they used to be in the “wild west” days of paintball 2000s early 2010s
The most advancement you see is most likely going to be on the low end or paintballs themselfs were at the limit on weight bords efficiency and features
"Be more positive, and not so negative" For me. That's where paintball popularity dropped since 2010. I played alot from 1997-2010. And I would say between 2008-2010 is when I started getting annoyed with the playerbase. I would always try to take some new kids and their dads under my wing and show them how much fun paintball is. But the numbers of less than desirable players that would show up to the fields on the weekends, picking fun at rental players, etc grew considerably. It may not be the same everywhere, and may not be like that anymore. But I have rarely played paintball since, even though it is near and dear to my heart for the amount of good memories I have had with friends. And I and my other middle aged friends have shifted to Airsoft (I know I know...boo this man). That and the variety of markers and aftermarket parts is not like what it was back in the day. You talk about cobbling together markers, that was a blast! Sure you can buy a Luxe and be good to go. But back then, cobbling together markers on a budget was fun, plus your marker became an extension of who you were. And newer players could easily remember who you were on the weekends just by seeing your marker, because it alone would leave an impact on them. And on the subject of pricing, that's another reason why I drifted.... now at 36 years old, I would rather spend $700+ on a real firearm, than a paintball marker. And myself and my friends find ourselves having more playing Airsoft on a much better budget. For the $1,200 spent on a high-end marker. Can be stretched tremendously further on a High-End $400 AEG, and $150 High-End Gas Pistol, a few pieces of quality gear, and basically a full year+ of gas and bb's, and yes we could also include basically 1/2 year of field fees (Once a weekend, half the year) into that same $1,200 budget. Which is why I see popularity with kids and their dads shifted over more to Airsoft, because of budgetary constraints. Spending $20 a person in field fees, and being able to bring your own gas and bb's saves a ton of cash. $60 for a case of quality 2000 paintballs, or $40 for a bag of 20,000 polished bio-degradable 20gr bb's? I still have a love for paintball. But I see the spark, camaraderie, and enthusiasm that was once in the paintball many moons ago have shifted over to Airsoft. Try places like Code Red or Warped Ops in California, or Ballahack Airsoft in Virginia, you'll see what I am talking about. The Ref's at those fields are top notch, and keep the players interested.
I had the same paintball experience and pretty much only played on private land to avoid the jerks at fields. I've recently gone back to commercial fields a few times and it feels a lot more like my 1996-2005 experience. For whatever reason the jerks seem to have filtered out of the sport.
2010-19; refinement & advancement of markers! I started playing in the 2000s & markers were unreliable & a PITA to maintain! Nowadays, you can break down a marker completely, service it, and put it back together in about an hour! Not to mention, they are insanely reliable!
I remember Don back in the day. He definitely was a cool guy that made you feel welcome. Hunted him and his core group a few times to where it made it awesome to go out there and play. Too bad that all went to hell out there in ione. Miss the old days....
For 2010-2020, guns have gotten so much better and cost a fraction of previous eras. Something like an Etha 2 runs circles around just about anything from older generations and costs 1/3 the price . A cobra angel lcd is always going to be an awesome gun but that Etha 2 will do everything related to shooting paint better than that cobra. The mid-end realm has really been the backbone of recball and divisional play. Between the Etha 2 and something like an axe, high performance is more accessible than ever.
Had a really custom sfl eblade cocker that shot fucking darts and crazyyyy high rps... back before we had ramping caps!!! Miss the old days of super fast guns!
In the 2010's paintball pretty much perfected itself in a sense. Things got progressively cheaper, guns got more reliable, paint got better (sorta). Just overall better quality stuff.
I'd add that it also saw a resurgence of pump and stock class games. I've been playing mostly stock class since 2009. Finding a less expensive way to play helps recruit people who can't afford to use a case+ per day.
Great points about the 10 man 5 man talking point. Not sure if 10 man and these other styles of game play need to rest of the shoulders of the NXL. I really think that the life line for these other styles of game play are local fields and local events. That way the NXL can stay super competitive and athletic as you mentioned. Really dig your vids boss!
As an aging fat guy, I appreciate his inclusion of us in 10-man. I'd also like to tell fields trying to attract older players to put up more barriers we can stand behind. Crouching isn't as fun as it used to be.
Awesome video, as always, 👍 can you do a tour over all your paintball equipment? Or your paintball room or whatever you have? Would be brutal 🤘 thanks in advance 😊
Great said bout being good ambasadors. Paintball is us, and how someone see us he sees paintball. We doing alot to make our pb comunity biger. Sometimes we leting new players play for costs off balls, and air, that we paying for filing to. There are some results, but it will never be super popular sport. Back in The days, like decade ago, there was games for over 100 ppl in my area. Now its big game, when 30 will come.
I agree with your last idea. Played paintball last weekend . This is the first time playing an actual field in a long time. Everyone there was great they were real talkative they were super nice. I never felt like anybody was being super snobby. Plus there's a bunch of games of rentals mixed with people who brought the own gear. One guy I just donated 500 paintballs to us as he was leaving. Plus the rack make sure all the games are really fun and different. I never felt like we got bored. I took my two nephews I've never really played a real field. We definitely can't wait to go back. Also shoutout to impact action sports in tualatin Oregon 10 out of 10 would recommend.
Like me, have you mostly played private games? I worked as a ref for a few years at a cool field, but they shut down and the only other field near me wasn't good, so we played exclusively private games, with the occasional scenario game.
IMO the best advancements in paintball technology from 2010-2020 was either the loader software and hardware becoming far more user friendly and getting softer on paint, or marker technology advancing to tear down faster with less and less wiring to screw around with, as well as markers becoming far esier on paint and mor air efficient. So imo, one of those.
I have a question. Do you ever see First Strike rounds becoming significantly cheaper? Also, do you think there will ever be an alternative to First Strikes? I believe their price is holding back their popularity among players.
Unless they can increase quantity I don't see First Strike round becoming cheaper. I know there have been a few companies in the past you've tried to make alternatives RAP4/MCS being one that comes to mind.
Paintball Ruined My Life Thanks for taking the time to answer :) Every now and then there seems to be a new shaped projectile in the works, e.g. maceyworks, but they never come to fruition. I don’t know if it’s genuinely the cost of manufacture or if it’s First Strikes monopoly that’s causing their price to be so high, but increasing their demand would potentially bring it down like you say. Seeing bigger companies like Planet Eclipse entering the mag fed market with high quality guns will hopefully encourage more players to play mag fed.
@@Prezmir In my opinion their price is high because fields don't allow them, because they aren't biodegradable (photo-degradable means they just degrade into micro-plastics). Essentially you're shooting plastic bottle caps all over someone's land and most land owners aren't happy about people dumping tens of thousands of pieces of trash on their property every week. When they first came out I assumed they would be photo-degradable until they got the formula right for a bio-degradable version. Biodegradable compostable plastic is everywhere these days, so I don't know why they're so far behind.
2010-2020 has to be affordability for comparable markers. Back in the early 00’s the 500$ guns couldn’t really compete with the angels and intimidators. Now a 500$ axe can kinda hold its own to dye markers and cs2s and other high end markers. Which makes it easier for more people to enter and enjoy the sport.
Question: Will the paintballs hurt if I play with low grade paint? I use do play paintball in 2014-2015; specifically speedball and scenerios. I have 2 full years of experience, so I haven't played since then. I'm about to play again for a party, but I don't have my paintball equipment so I have to play with rental.
I’m 15 years old and I’m just getting into paintball. I got a axe 2.0, a spire 3 and a dye i5 for $400. But I still need a a tank, what’s your suggestion? And what other equipment do I need to get started to go play.#PBRML
Ninja or empire tank... best advice & mistake that I’ve seen many a new player make is not investing in pads. Get slider shorts, elbow, &!kneepads... only way your going to get away with sliding without destroying yourself. And work on skills & playing rather than looks & gear. Seen that a lot, it’s universal from golfers to real firearms shooting. Practice the basics instead of tricking yourself that some magic gear will make you exponentially better
Oof, if WDP could come back! I literally just tonight pulled my older G7 Fly out of the basement. Along with my tank, and found out it's 1 year out of hydro. :(
I really like the late model Angels (G7 fly were stupid amazing, holy crap) but a lot of the older markers irked me. WDP had some great technology and ergonomics in some ways, but then they made a TON of outright stupid decisions in other ways. For instance keeping the giant battery pack up in the marker body and refusing to use 9v for years, using the utterly horrible COPS system instead of eyes for even more years, having FOUR different barrel threads (tied for the most number of threads along with Tippmann), making a stacked tube open bolt marker that couldn't be field-stripped, using metric screws that people constantly stripped out (something Eclipse fixed), etc. I honestly think these barebones design choices hurt them when people were comparing markers. Of course who knows what would have happened, they may have ended up bad either way :(
Last that I know of is 2012 with the fenix. Which isn't really that bad of a gun. I ran it for a while between getting it for christmas and buying ny 170r.
My favorite gun my PGP 2k I want a phantom and a Carter Buzzard. Best thing for paint ball is to encourage a player to buy midrange cost mech guns. I feel like a lot of people think they will suck and get shot up if they don’t own a $3k set up. But if they go out with a $3k set up and still get lit up it’s going to be a unfun experience. Instead encourage new players to practice and learn needed skills with average gear. Then upgrade when the have the skills to back up a $3k set up
Agreed on all points. My private group has been playing "Hopper Ball" for 12 years now. Limiting on-field paint to 200 rounds really helps with affordability and most of us have moved to 50rnd hoppers, pump or stock class. I wish more fields did limited paint and/or limited ROF days to help new players get into the sport. Its a lot better than it used to be, but there was a long time when someone with a 20bps marker could light up new players and catching 10 balls in your first game is a deterrent to having a second game.
For me the best exercise if you are in middle or high school join the wrestling team you will learn to dive learn to get low fast and you will get better core and over all body
Being an ambassador is sooo important! Here in Reno, the paintball scene was ruined by Reno Indoor Paintball. They would put their tourney team against a group of rec ball players, only to get destroyed in seconds. Talk about losers!!! They drove every new person away from the sport. Now, there is zero paintball fields in this area. Pretty sad. Reno Indoor Paintball pushed away all rec players. Maybe someday another field will open up, that is a positive influence on new players. Love this sport. But my Tippman, Traccer, and Autococker have been sitting too long.......
The last remaining field in my area was like that for years. They're finally under new management and they don't let the old owner's friends trash new players anymore. Its amazing how much a bad field can hurt the sport.
2010-2020 the advancement of being able to watch/ study and learn paintball at a higher level......and what was a cool life style became a hobby in most peoples eyes and opinions. I feel like the BMX SkateBoard and Paintball scene as the most popular scenes in country for action sports was over taken by Competitive gaming and console gaming.
I love my magfed mg100. U should get that if anything. I play speed witha cs2 but i love magfed to play different styles. I want a pump gun and a mech cs2 frame.
I started playing "Gunfighter Class" in college to save money. Its any marker, but with stock class horizontal stick feeds. The group I play with now is a little less strict, with mixed mech-semi, pump and modified stock class (keep the constant air instead of 12g). We all save a ton of money over the way we used to play.
MVP JORDAN if people can’t afford $30 (bottom shelf paint ex: Defy lvl 1) for a box of paintballs they’re in the wrong hobby. I don’t think paintball price is a factor. People assume paintball is expensive because beginners want what their friend have which many times are high end products.
Katkrasherpb my local park allows you to bring your own equipment even paint . It’s unfortunate some parks price gauge like yours does by not allowing you to bring your own paint forcing you to buy they’re overpriced stuff. That’s something that needs to stop.
The only thing that matters on a paintball gun is how it preforms and feels when you use it, it should also look sexy too if it's $1,000+ but not if it ruins the reliability of it. This is why the Field One Force is the best gun used by the greatest team to ever play paintball, team Dynasty. I wish they would make it cheaper though because it's more of a $900 gun because it does not look sexy, it's made to just work and doesn't have a $1600 Luxury features. You shouldn't have to pay more something just because it actually preforms how it should that's a bad road to go down for paintball and will kill the sport. If Field one made some better looking guns that were more affordable but also had the same reliability as the Force they would take over the paintball gun market share!
Tooless features, best advancement
Lawrence Tyler 100% the biggest advancement, good call!
Good to see you putting something out, hope you're doing okay man.
Hahah😂 he said “oooooo Jeep?!” Your innocence right there was priceless!

Lawn Gnome very true!
We also have high end tech/features like the gamma core, good boards, and hoseless designs trickling down into budget markers
HPA tanks are VERY affordable now. My Evil 68ci 5000psi carbon tank was $799.99MSRP back in the day lol
Just the refinement of the products being sold is the biggest advancement. Reliability and quality is key to selling products in today's paintball industry. So 2010-2020 id say the ease or the "quality of life" of constantly playing paintball got much better.

Thanks for keeping this channel active!
For the advances for 2010-2020, could we say also that some of the marker electronics patents also Expired?

Thanks for the video. Always great to listen to your opinions on paintball and life in general!
Love your last point! Let's all be great ambassadors to paintball!
Would love to see WDP come back. Always thought they had the most satisfying shot back in the day.

The mid-end realm has really been the backbone of recball and divisional play. Between the Etha 2 and something like an axe, high performance is more accessible than ever.
Thanks for the shout out @2:50 !
Had a really custom sfl eblade cocker that shot fucking darts and crazyyyy high rps... back before we had ramping caps!!! Miss the old days of super fast guns!
2010- 2020
-uniting world in NXL, one rules everywhere
In the 2010's paintball pretty much perfected itself in a sense. Things got progressively cheaper, guns got more reliable, paint got better (sorta). Just overall better quality stuff.
I'd add that it also saw a resurgence of pump and stock class games. I've been playing mostly stock class since 2009. Finding a less expensive way to play helps recruit people who can't afford to use a case+ per day.
I'm I to woosball, but like hearing this dude.
See I love speedball.. but 20v20 hyperball is amazing as heck!
Love the mechanical pbsl is fun and my style. Don't know about 10man. 5 to 7 maybe. We did 4 and it was fast.
Revival of angel. Markers will be 3k range in todays time lol. But loved angels very advance for their time for surw
Paintball Ruined My Life Thanks for taking the time to answer :)
Every now and then there seems to be a new shaped projectile in the works, e.g. maceyworks, but they never come to fruition.
As a Jeep guy, OlllllllO is an ascii version of a Jeep grill =)
Which grease or oil would I need for my dye czr
I'd love to see angel air. I always wanted one of those tanks back in the day
check ebay, there's always some good stuff popping up from time to time.
still got my silver to red fade 2k5 dragon intimidator from 2005, still puzzled why it didn't come stock with an asa though :)
2010 to 2020 quality control/dependable equipment?
2010-2020 has to be affordability for comparable markers. Back in the early 00’s the 500$ guns couldn’t really compete with the angels and intimidators. Now a 500$ axe can kinda hold its own to dye markers and cs2s and other high end markers. Which makes it easier for more people to enter and enjoy the sport.
My mom just moved and I found my old wargames autococker. Man I miss that thing.
2010s the gap between high and low and gear has closed massively
Great video. I liked the format.
Do you have the link to Greg Siewers' pro paintball training?
Is the Field One Acculock barrel kit any better than the other barrel systems?
Clayto04 ehh not really. They loud.
Good vid!
Question: Will the paintballs hurt if I play with low grade paint?
I use do play paintball in 2014-2015; specifically speedball and scenerios. I have 2 full years of experience, so I haven't played since then. I'm about to play again for a party, but I don't have my paintball equipment so I have to play with rental.
lower quality paint is less likely to break on target and bounces tend to hurt more than when the ball breaks on you
@@ashravenpb thanks!
I need help debating for a back up and main
Back ups would you choose Gtek 170r or Sp shocker AMP and for main would you choose Luxe Tm40 or CS2
Lol, got to the end of the video, and I'll note I have a Red G7 Fly
I enjoy your content
Of course who knows what would have happened, they may have ended up bad either way :(
Ehh spyder is barley still around. When was the last time they released a new marker
Last that I know of is 2012 with the fenix. Which isn't really that bad of a gun. I ran it for a while between getting it for christmas and buying ny 170r.
Tyler Cady I would love to see them do a successor to the Fenix
@@conjuringbeats5830 I would love to see them actually make a gun with competitive technology in it.
Can you add time tags/links in the description so we can click and go directly to each question? Thanks.
80s paintball in general
90s jack wood
00-2020 see 90s.
Where you at man been a minute since we saw any content. Hope you didn’t get the Rona and are doing ok.
2010 gave us the Angel SB and ARK!!
For me the best exercise if you are in middle or high school join the wrestling team you will learn to dive learn to get low fast and you will get better core and over all body
I MISS SPECIAL OPS PAINTBALL
Loved this video and your perspectives and insights! I was sooo hoping you gave the Geo 3.5 an honorable mention (my personal GOAT)
That's what I thought he was going to say was, since he has stated it was one of the best markers he has owned in the past.
Whats your favorite current 2020 paintball gun?
I love my magfed mg100. U should get that if anything. I play speed witha cs2 but i love magfed to play different styles. I want a pump gun and a mech cs2 frame.
Hee Brad can we expect a upgrade bolt for cs2 IV core bolt
Hey guys, this is PAINTBALL QUESTION TIME!!
I'd like to see Belsales bring back the Evolution X Autococker
the best thing you can do for paintball is make it cost less.
WGP Karnivor = my fav marker
That guy used text to make a jeep grill & people keep trying to pronounce it i bet he is laughing his ass off
2010-2020 brought really good media like the hk army videos
Airgun Designs! Redz!
What would draw more players to the sport? CHEAPER PAINT!! The reason most people don’t play is because they can’t afford so much paintball the time.
FatStogie you’re really lucky if your field let’s you use $30 paint. Mine charges $90 a case for regulars and $70 for membership:(
Katkrasherpb my local park allows you to bring your own equipment even paint . It’s unfortunate some parks price gauge like yours does by not allowing you to bring your own paint forcing you to buy they’re overpriced stuff. That’s something that needs to stop.
FatStogie buddy it’s not that. 99% of the fields in my area charge $100 plus tax for a case of paint. Then 20 bucks for entry...
0:56... that's dog shit back there, right?
More efficient guns
SMILES BRO
Find yourself a 468 for mag Fed
I miss aka
Wait smart parts came back as shocker paintball
I would love to know the behind-the-scenes bribery that let them buy back the patent for Freak inserts.
Before going out they gave dlx partial ownership
I switched to a cs2 after watching this
Want WGP to come back
Hybrid is still here they are know as ckfightlife now a days
