    In my experience, if buying a paintball gun used, just assume something's wrong with it regardless of what the seller says. Once in a while you get lucky and it's fine, but I've found most paintball players just don't know how or don't care to take care of their stuff. That said, if you're willing to put the work in, you can get some really good deals buying used, and the rebuild process teaches you a lot about how your marker works. I bought my DM12 on eBay and ended up replacing every piece of rubber in the thing (the seller said it had a "small leak" haha), but it's now probably my favorite marker.

      Honestly this should be a pinned comment, because so many people buy paintball stuff based on money but especially with used gear you should have some money in reserve to fix problems as they arise. because as you said 9/10 used gear is going to have issues I mean hell I bought a Etek 4 LT and ended up replacing the board with a Virtue OLED board because the original crapped the bed

    • @zDerezzed
      @zDerezzed ปีที่แล้ว +2

      There will almost certainly be a problem with it. You're absolutely right, most players DO NOT take care of their gear like I do, or everyone should. I baby my gear and clean everything after every use once I get home.

    Warning............PE solenoids are basically becoming non-existent for older(not so old) guns. When you can find them, they'll cost as much as you paid for the gun. Dye still provides parts for most of their older guns although NT parts and for some reason stock dm12/13 bolts are impossible to find. Everything is reasonably priced though. Smart parts........I'm not so sure about but I think between DLX and shocker you can usually find most of what you need. Bob long.......not too bad actually. Parts are still not too hard to find on really old guns and easy to find on the later but pre Field one guns. Empire.......no real problems there you can find anything you need as far as I know.

      @sergiosilva2438 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Dante Lara I know it's a month late, but I didn't want to leave you hanging. If you're looking for something lighter, with better air efficiency and no macro line? Then yeah, a newer marker is the way to go. But the shots are pretty much the same, although I will say that the shot on the DM4/5 is butter smooth! That's what got me to purchase my DM5 after using a teammates DM4.

      I’m just happy i bought an Etha 2a few months back, have no experience playing speedball and had nobody to ask to, and since it was lockdown at the time, no fields nor proshops were open. All the research was on my own with no actual way of feeling the marker i went for it. Glad it wasn’t a bad choice but the one I got tho may have a missing Solenoid body pin but i made a temporary fix using a barbecue stick and heat shrink tubing and grease.

    Used markers I've bought online never show up in exactly the condition described by the seller. When I first got back into the game and didn't know a poppet from a spool I bought a used Drone DX and had problems every time I took it to the field. I ended up trading the damn thing for pennies on the dollar I paid for it and bought an Etek5 brand new which has never given me problems.
    When buying used, go in with the expectation you WILL have problems.

    Man I just pulled out all my old gear from 97 to 2008 when I stopped. My 10yr old wants to try.
    My autococker and e-cocker were still lubed and I carefully checked my (left myself notes on each markers condition and book with settings) seals. Aired up with a new tank my Black Magic (replaced line anyway) and she worked. No leaks. Ran new paint......no chops on a halo b I stored in box.
    My son didn't love the grin I made when I grabbed my worn out gloves, slid out heavy pants, nppl event jersey. I hadn't even opened my big bins of markers, barrels, pods, orings and soooooo many parts.
    I got to rediscover something I buried . Old spyders, eagle talons, rainmaker, Bob long, smart parts ion, dyes,eclipse. I am going to see if I can get them all to work. My angel LCD feels like a brick.

    • @drewkroeker

      It's going to be more difficult to find circuit boards and solenoids for a geo 3. The etha 2 and axe 2.0 have better parts availability. For that reason alone I would go with something newer.

    DM8's (or all DM's for that matter) are actually very gentle on paint. That's what the LPR is for, to adjust how soft or hard you want your shot. I've owned DM's since 2007 and they are still some of the most gentle markers with paint.
    Also, parts for older markers, for the most part, are not as expensive as Brad makes them to be. If you look around (eBay, PbNation, Facebook groups, ect.) you can find practically anything you need for not that expensive. Price for parts depend on the marker.

    @ydna 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    I tend to agree that newer is better. There's one piece of bad news though, which is that many of the big companies these days only stock parts for a little bit then it gets swept under the rug. Empire doesn't have everything available for their pre-2011 markers, same goes for Eclipse (though maybe worse since they have sooooo many competing markers all using different items). So as time continues, even the big companies don't support their own items.
    There's some older markers that are really simple, but getting them now is just a nostalgia thing.
    Regardless, new items are probably best for quality reasons if nothing else. It just irks me that people complain about not being able to repair their marker but don't vote with their wallet :(

      If your ethanol breaks and that's a big if it will be easy and cheap to fix. Worst case you send it to planet eclipse to get fixed and they have excellent customer service. With an old Dm or ego you could spend weeks looking for a replacement part just to end up buying that part used and it still not working. In terms of performance the etha 2 is gamma core so it shoots just as well as current high end PE guns

    i don't know if it's accurate to say a gun like a DM8 or Geo 2 can't handle fragile paint. I mean they're high end guns. They were MADE to handle high-end tournament paint. I don't think paint has changed THAT much in the last 10-15 years, besides being a bit smaller in bore size then it used to be. Can you honestly say that All-Star, Marbalizer, Evil paint, and other high end paint from back in the day is much different than tournament grade paint today? I think they can handle it just fine. It's the operating pressure I believe that makes the difference on what kind of paint a marker can handle, and those guns run at quite a low pressure just like the guns today. Hell, I could put tournament paint into a Spyder or Tippmann running 600-800 psi and it would shoot. I mean yeah you would get some chops/barrel breaks but I feel like in a DM8 or Geo it would be totally fine

    Never in my life i heard about brocken solenoid in Dye gun compared to old Eclipse none servicable Solenoids out of plastic that i had to replace many times by servicing none working guns, up untill CS 1 came out, whitch has the same or nearly the solenoid as Dye DMs, wonder why 🤣 and the older PE noids are rare now here in Germany and cost more than duble the price of Dye noid (60€ for Dye and about 170€ for PE noid) And i have to disagree that DM8 (one of my guns that i own) cant shoot ultra high end paint, it can shoot everything if you can tune it right. And last, i am not fan of Dye or PE but PE is not the best like you said, it just hyped like Apple Iphone, dont get me wrong they are very good guns but only starting with CS or Gtek models, so if you realy want Planet Eclipse gun i can recomend only starting from CS1.5, every model of Getek, or new Geo 4 and LV 1.6
