    About the gadfather you mentioned here
    The inciting incident is the death of his father and the plot point 1 is him reading about it in the newspaper... Right?
    So what I'm trying to refer is that the inciting incident didn't happened to the protagonist
    Hence; it's wrong to think that the inciting incident MUST happens the protagonist directly.... The effect is enough .... Am I right?
    Edited: Btw; what the inciting incident for the groundhog day?

      Hello again! Yes, that's correct, the inciting incident doesn't happen to the protagonist. However, I must say that over the years, I have changed a lot my opinion about the plot points of the Godfather. But, what you say it's ok. Most people believe that the shooting of his father is the inciting incident. I don't believe that anymore, but it's a very lengthy conversation to do it now. Maybe, sometime I will make an analysis of the Godfather. It's a unique movie.
      Concerning "Groundhog day", the inciting incident is tricky. It's the blizzard. But in a way, it's like the weather is a character here, and is very angry with the protagonist. There's a line where Phil says "I make the weather". This is hubris.
      I guess God/weather gets angry with him and that's why he's trapped.

    What if my story already starts with conflicts in act I?

    • @ScriptwritingTips
      @ScriptwritingTips  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That's even better! Because in this way you engage the audience much sooner. However, if your story is well structured, you won't have any problem with that. This is the case in most Shakespearean stories, they start with conflict.
      If you have any particular example that you want to discuss, I'd be happy to help.
