Another great review, Matt. Both cars look awesome. I am not an authority on express reefers, and I hope someone will correct me if I am wrong, but I think "express reefers" were primarily made to be used in passenger service. Bill B.
You are correct, express reefers were usually painted in passenger colors and outfitted with different trucks / brakes so they can be ahead of passenger cars. They usually carried dairy products and other perishables used on passenger routes. The Burlington Reg Express is just the name used by the CBQ, kind of like UP's Pacific Fruit Express reefers.
