    I just happened to have a quarter cabbage leftover from another recipe, my last 2 green onions, and my last egg.
    Im going to make this sandwich for my lunch today and work on my grocery list while I eat it!😬☺️
    Note: I just finished my lunch. That's one of the most fun and most delicious sandwiches I've eaten in a long time. I was worried about adding sugar to it, so I left it out, but then tried sprinkling some on it as I ate and I have to say sugar or a sugar substitute makes a huge difference. It magnified the flavor. Next time I will include the sweetener before I wrap it in foil. So awesome!

    Every time I see cabbage in the store I'm thinking it's impossible for me to go through a whole cabbage alone before it goes bad. But you have so many delicious recipes that use cabbage! Now I know what I will buy on my next essential trip to the grocery store! I feel so lucky to live near a Korean grocery store. I live near Seattle and unfortunately Asian businesses have been hit even harder by this pandemic, so I do my best to do all my shopping at Asian markets and bakeries, especially the small family owned businesses.       I screed it and pickel it as well. Combo with carrot, paprika, radish is really good. Forgot... Some leek or spring onions as well

      Another idea i do for my family is fried cabbage. Not a recipe if you are watching your waist tho! haha Fry a couple strips of bacon. Take out bacon crumble it and set aside. Leave a couple tbl spoons of grease. Rough cut your cabbage and size you prefer. I do square cuts. Fry the cabbage in the grease for about 10-15 minutes or until tender. Add the bacon and salt and pepper to taste. Goes great with pork. My kids even love it! Its slightly sweet with the bacon is amazing!

      this is kinda unrelated to your point but if a whole one is too much you can ask for cabbage to be cut in half at most grocery stores :)

    I've made this two times now with one big cabbage and I still have enough to make a third one! This is the best thing I've eaten in while; I almost cried after the first bite I took, and reading the comments, I can see that I'm not alone. Every time I make a recipe from this channel, it comes out perfectly and SO delicious, thank you so much for all the videos you make.

      I did this with cabbage leftovers, and it also turned out so big. 😮 Can‘t imagine your situation. 😂
      It‘s so cheap, easy to make, no special Korean spices necessary, and filling. Love it, too! ❤

    I made this a couple days ago but it was so good by itself that I couldn’t add the sugar or ketchup etc. I didn’t even put it on bread. I added some sriracha and just ate it off the plate. Giving the ingredients a beat down before adding the egg is the move. Forces all those flavors to marry. So good. I used a quarter of a head of cabbage and ended up making four of these. Delicious, inexpensive eating.

      UPDATE! The sugar ketchup mustard combination is 100% where it’s at! The sugar basically grabs all the great flavors and just body slams them into your tastebuds. It’s gonna be hard to eat this any other way from now on. I’ve bought cabbage twice in my life and both times happened in the last three weeks. Thank you for introducing me to a new ingredient and great recipe!

    Made, again, today. I cheated - I used store bought Angel Hair Shredded Cabbage - chopped mini carrots into mini circles - and had to use a ciabatta roll I had in my refrigerator. OMG - sooooooooo delicious! Thank you, so very much for this so easy recipe!

      LivOlane I hope the situation in NY get better soon for you guys too. I live in Houston, TX, yee haw cowboys🤠. Here because of the medical center, we were able to react early and set up isolated testing facilities so the situation stay under control despite the large Asian Americans population in the Houston area. Stay safe everyone, this is also a chance for us to try out Maangchi recipes, I tried to make the black bean noodle yesterday and it turn out amazing 🥰

      Surprisingly Blank yes I’m Asian too, what I mean is that a lot of Asian in Houston returned to their home countries for Lunar New Years and return after, especially international student that need to go back to visit their parents and grandparents because Houston have a big Asian Americans population and international student population.

    If you want more heavy meal, use one more bread and add sliced cheese and sliced ham.. It will taste like heaven!!

    I just tried this, it's SOOOO delicious 😍 Thank you so much Maanchi! Guys, just put sugar on it. I wasn't sure at first too but the sugar is just a wonderful contrast to the saltiness. The combination of the flavours is incredible, one of the best discoveries ever.
    Btw I put cream cheese on the toast too, makes the whole dish tastier

    When I first started watching your videos I was 9 years old, to be more specific the very first video I watched from was making kimchi now I’m 21 . and your channel is still the best cooking channel in TH-cam . and I absolutely love your recipes ❤️❤️❤️ . and back then I always watched your recipes , and always wondered what would it taste like . and I also thought that it looked delicious . I first tried cooking when I was 16, and the first thing I tried is kimchi and from that time I fell in love with your channel !! and Korean food, culture.     After I saw this video I tried it (also with the cucumbers as you suggested) My husband loves it so much that he even learnt how to prepare it by himself to take it to work. Same happened when I served potato salad that really looks like ice cream and is so delish. Thx for all your wonderful recipes. 🙏

    I've got half a cabbage in the fridge and I had no idea what to do with it, this is perfect! I'm a bit doubtful about the sugar but I'll trust the chef and give it a go 😂
    EDIT: I made it today, and OH MY GOD. I didn't have any mustard so I used honey mustard sauce, I trusted Maangchi and added the sugar, and it was the most delicious sandwich I've had in a long time. If you're wavering, just go do it. This has immediately become a favourite that I'll be making more in future!

      @@milkamurugi6888 if you keep it frying long enough on a medium heat it's fine - I hate squishy egg and this was perfect. Browned it on either side and everything in the middle was cooked 👍

    My mom goes crazy when it comes to cabbage. Sometimes, I worry that I've had too much of it when she cooks a meal with it. You just can't waste food these days! Seeing this will give us more variations if in case we have left-over cabbage from a previous meal. Trust me, I'll convince her to try this sometime! Thanks for this recipe and stay safe always!💙💙💙

    I made a slight variation of this by mixing gochugaru, garlic powder, brown sugar, and serrano pepper slices in with the cabbage and egg mixture. I took out the ketchup and sugar and added a layer of smoked white cheddar. It was delicious, will definitely make this again. Thanks for the inspiration Maangchi!! Hope you're doing well

    I love this recipe a whole lot! A tip for my fellow Aussies though - in Australia most households have tomato sauce as opposed to ketchup - tomato sauce is a lot sweeter than ketchup, so you can usually skip the sugar or reduce the amount you use as our sauce is much sweeter by default.

      My Aussie hubby said the opposite. Tomato sauce has more tomato content compared to ketchup which means it’s less sweet than ketchup.

      @@clairemhle1 i find ketchups have more vinegar content than tomato sauce which makes the overall flavour profile less sweet to me. But different people have different tastebuds! So try it however you like it! ☺️ I think that’s the beauty of cooking

      True, this is what i love about that recipe. It‘s even vegan, if you substitute the butter with oil - as a meat eater, i don’t even notice.

    oh my god, Maangchi! i have been wanting to try this recipe and i finally bought some bread today.
    at first i was skeptical of putting sugar in it so i put less, BUT AS I EAT I CRAVE TO TASTE THE CRUNCHY SUGAR OHMYGOD IT IS SO GOOD SWEET AND SALTY, THICK AND JUICY
    I WILL MAKE IT AGAIN TOMORROW BUT WITH MOREEEEEEEEEEEEEEE SUGAR
    p/s: my boyfriend who doesnt really like vegetable ate it and said it was very very good although mine only had cabbage and onion inside (what was available in the refrigerator) hahaha

    I made this sandwich for breakfast on a toasted Roll-ppang bun (from your recipe) , and I added finely sliced ham, garlic and sesame seeds to the mixture. It was delicious ! Thank you Maangchi for another great recipe. I love watching your videos , you're so sweet and lovely .

    Maangchi, at every turn of your preparation, my mouth kept dropping open with surprise! Korean street toast is just amazing! I guess you could add chopped chicken. I kept imagining mayonnaise or teriyaki sauce as alternate condiments. But it is true food of beauty, no matter what.

    I hesitated when I saw the sugar, ketchup and mustard, but I followed each step and didn't skip any ingredients and I loved it! My husband loved it too and will be making it for breakfast tomorrow. I've sent this recipe to my Korean BFF as she's never had this. Thank you for sharing :).

      One thing I noticed is the different levels of "tolerance." Koreans have a higher tolerance for "mildly" sweet flavors, although commercial snacks and dessert recipes (ironically) use less sugar compared to what you see on TH-cam and baking websites. In contrast, my American and Indian friends had a higher tolerance for sourness.

    I made your yummy dish with a slight difference, I mixed 70% butter with, 30% ssamjang, 1 tsp gochugaru for an extra kick. And to bind the veggies together, I melted 2 squares of plastic cheese. The rest is history, gam-sa-ham-ni-da ... Thank you Maanchi, I've been following you since 2008 🌶️

    Oh Mangchi, thank you for doing this and showing the actual cooking tip like peeing the cabbage. The toast is something that works really well as a hangover snack. Inexpensive ingredients, quick and easy to make, this recipe is a perfect one for a quarantine brunch.

    I'm from Europe. It is not that bad where i live, but my country is in lockdown for a month now. I hope we won't get Italy or Spain situation.
