Solo Backpacking Trip to Redwood National Park, California // Backpacking 44 Camp Alone

  • Enjoy my recent solo backpacking trip to Redwood National Park! I was able to explore the Tall Trees Grove from the Tall Trees Trail Head, Redwood Creek, 44 Camp (which had a couple of surprises in store for me), and part of the 44 Creek Loop. Hiking Redwood National Park and backpacking in the redwoods is such a treat, and a great reminder to look up. The hike saved the coolest view for last!
    And yes I picked up that piece of Ramen, and yes, I moved the hammock after the shot where I set it up.

    Great video! I can’t do big miles anymore, but find the peace and joy on my shorter trips. Grateful to be able to get outside.

      Just getting a little peace outside away from road noise makes it worth it to me. I'm glad you enjoyed! Thank you!

    Hope to see those amazing redwoods someday. Love a hammock to relax in under the trees. Its one of my fav things especially when I am soloing camping. I love having my coffee in my hammock and just slowly waking up, listening for all the morning sounds. Thanks for showing us this beautiful National park.

      The Redwoods are truly incredible, and worth the trip. Coffee in the hammock sounds like a dream! I'm definitely bringing it on more trips in the future. I wish I could sleep in one, but I don't think it's in the cards for me.

      @@WanderingSwitchback Same here! I wish I knew someone I could borrow a hammock from for an overnighter to try it out. But I don't think I can sleep like that. I am a side sleeper and while it's comfy for a short nap, don't think I could sleep like that. Then again I could be totally wrong. LOL!

      @@RVAHikerGirl I've seen videos on how to side sleep in one, so it's worth giving it a try if you can! I'm a stomach sleeper, so I think it's hopeless for me, but that's okay! 😂

      @@WanderingSwitchback I've seen some people also put their blow up mattress pads in them for more stability and a flatter surface too.

      @RVA Hiker Girl I’ve seen that too… I feel like if I tried it, it would look like a slapstick comedy show!

    Very nice video! Were those service roads open? Never saw vehicles there

    • @WanderingSwitchback
      @WanderingSwitchback  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you, Vlad! The service roads I hiked on were closed to public traffic, but it sounded like there was work going on somewhere nearby in the park, so work vehicles were probably out there. There's a permit required to get to the Tall Trees trailhead, as there is a gated road there, but with the permit, you can drive there. I hope that makes sense!

      @@WanderingSwitchback thank you for getting back to me, this makes sense! I’ve been debating between doing camp 44 or doing dispersed camping along the banks of the creek. Looks like a fantastic place!

    • @WanderingSwitchback
      @WanderingSwitchback  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It really is spectacular. The biggest downside to 44 Camp is that there isn't water close by, just at the creek. The bathroom there closed just before this trip (as you saw), so there isn't that anymore. One thing I didn't realize when I set up at 44 is that each site is actually TWO sites, so you may ultimately end up sharing with another group, whereas on the creek banks, you just go wherever.

    Hi there! I’m planning on traveling to the red woods next year, something I’ve wanted to do since I was a little girl (I live in the north east) never been to cali and I plan on sprinkling some of my mothers ashes as it was always our dream to go together - I am planning on solo camping. Any suggestions? Insights? General information? Thank you!
    Your video is beautiful.

      What a beautiful tribute to your mother! It's SUCH a beautiful area. I highly recommend checking out Lady Bird Johnson Grove and Fern Canyon (check if you need a permit, even for day use). You can camp at Gold Bluff's beach (one of many videos I have yet to edit), or there are many other great campgrounds in the area (that are less off-the-beaten-path). Not a lot of resources in the area, like grocery stores or gas stations, so be sure to stock up before you go. Sue Meg State Park is gorgeous, Moonstone Beach is a favorite... Oh man, I could go on! LOL I grew up in that area, so it's very familiar. 😊
