Thanks for the tip regarding setting the AP speed to the current sped limit. I have been pressing the speed limit "sign" on the screen to accomplish that, which doesn't always work first time if the road is uneven and jostles your finger. Holding down the stalk allows you to keep your eyes on the road. Excellent tip.

This video has been so helpful to me. I am looking to buy a Model Y and needed some more real world information about it from someone who owns one. I was also going to get the white interior and, I agree about the woodgrain. It's a bit misplaced in such a modern looking car. I have that drink bottle too and I've taken note of that accessory. Thanks for the ideas for the third party add-ons.

you can get PPF and ceramic coat although that you me sounds like an expensive double up. PPF on the most damage prone areas in the front, whole bonnet and side mirrors is what I’ll be doing.
PPF alone gives you almost the shine of ceramic anyway.
Hey Ryan was wondering if you could do a video just on the performance of your model y. Comparing the acceleration and the feeling of the y compared to the 3.
any quotes on the cost for ceramic coat on a model y and dark tint? I got a price from a lease company at ~$7000 wondering if this is high or not.

I agree .. and when I collected my white MY I was shocked and delighted to see the white strip !! (I had expected wood )
Took delivery of our Y last Tuesday and so far I've "driven" it from inside the building to outside. Where it was met by a covered trailer and taken straight to a PPF shop and it's still there.
In 2015 we had a little Leaf and on our first evening, got hit by a large stone which left a big chip so I'm marred by that experience.
Loving your channel Ryan! Just keen to know if there's a noticeable difference in the ride quality between the Gemini wheels and the induction ones, love the looks of the induction wheels but contemplating saving a couple of thousand dollars by getting the Gemini wheels and fitting one of those hubcaps and in the meantime have a comfier ride
Hey mate ! Thanks for the comment. The induction wheels look great and we havent noticed a difference in ride, however if I had my time again now that ive seen those third party hubs... I'd probably save the money and go for a slightly softer ride haha

My daughters first Frank Green water bottle met an untimely demise when it got jammed under the drivers seat when it went into Easy Entry mode - it essential bent the bottle in half... 🤦♂ As such this was a must have as I am not replacing a second FG water bottle - so I just ordered 2!

I'm loving my MY but bit having the warning beeps when reversing is crazy. They promised it after a few weeks and it's two months now.
I'd love your honest opinion on a few more Jowua products. Specifically the boot liner as I've tried both the official Tesla MY liner and another expensive one from Amazon and both were weirdly poorly fitted. The sides all curled up slightly and effectively created a secondary boot lip. It looked horrible.
While your in Sydney, can you do a meet up? would love to come. But it would have to be maybe the week after...

Auto highbeam control works fine when getting to low, but it takes ages to go back to high! Room for imrovement there still!
The rear windows are 'privacy' glass. Not tinted, but dyed. They have no IR heat or UV protection, despite looking tinted. I had a 3rd party ceramic tint done recently for all the side and back windows (didn't bother with the roof which is actually tinted). I used the darkest legal tint in Australia for driver and passenger, and a clear ceramic tint for the back passenger and boot windows. Looks great and a noticeable improvement in keeping the car cool in sunny Newy.
Wow, I had no idea ! So no UV protection in the back !??
@@RyanCowan apparently not! I had various tinting shops tell me, plus then I googled and watched a few youtube vids on tinting Teslas.
Easy test would be parking in noon sun, sitting in the back with forearm on the door, then same with front.
I’ve got the fancy 3M tinting and you can not feel anything on your skin (supposed to reduce IR/UV by 90%)

@ryan : Does ceramic coating on top of PPF work well? A lot of industry experts are of the opinion that we either need PPF or Ceramic coating and not both as it is not going to work at all. Your thoughts please?
Great point-I'm not an expert but I know a lot of people that have done both.
Do you have recommendations or promo codes for places to look for third party replacements of the 19” Geminis?
Keen to go white interior + love the look of the 20” Inductions, but that combination tips the order over the stamp duty threshold in NSW right now, which basically turns the nice wheels into a $6k add-on.
P.S. good to see doggo fits in the back with the seats up, our noodle (greyhound) will get the same experience

Yippie! Hope you’re right about the Apple Music, I use it all the time as well. Obviously Apple lossless audio would sound amazing in the Y but chew through your data like anything. Ordered mine in Sept and word on the streets is that they may be arriving in January for Brisbane so 🤞on that one.

Hey Ryan, have you checked out if under the seatbelts on the back seat there are marks left by the seatbelts themselves? Cause I got my model y last week on Thursday and on Friday I found out about them. Pretty annoying

Standard 13A (16A in Europe) charges well !! 10 hrs charge - gives 200km 👍
In Belgium it's not at all allowed to tint the front windows.

Hey Ryan like the car just wondering what is the real world range of the model y and if it is better or worse than your previous model 3
Really not the best tbh. I get around 300-350km. Depending on Highway or city driving. I’ve found that, yes you can get it to that range, but your never going to get it there without having to look for a charger because A your not driving till 0% and B the lack of charger infrastructure don’t allow you to risk it. So realistically it feels less than 300km due to this. That’s the biggest downside I think with this car but that’s just in my case.
Seems very comparable to our 2021 model 3. We’d normally used about 50% getting to Euroa on the way to Beechworth. Same deal with the Y.
Does ceramic coating acutally protect the paint from chips? I also have the white MY - no chips yet but I will cry when I get one 😬
PPF will protect it. CC will help it stay clean.

Good question ! I would still choose the white. I just got back from a road trip and now have another deep stone chip 🤦♂ So PPF across the entire front of the car would be ideal

I've looked into PPF and I think that the cost is ~10% the cost of the car if you want to do it to the entire car for the Standard Range. Given that it seems like quite an expensive addition that may not be worth it. However, it is possible to do a "Full Front" installation instead of a "Whole car" installation which could be cheaper. My question is: if you got PPF then how much of the car would you protect? Have you experienced any other issues other than chips on the front of the car? Also, keen on seeing what that "Fixit touchup paint" can do because, if that works...well, you would have to get a lot of chips for the cost of the touchup paint to equal the cost of the PPF.
Robert in the US and is still expensive, I did the whole car as I plan to keep it for a while. I only did high traffic areas on my Honda and I learned the hard way it helped, but over 5 years the only areas with issues (mostly somehow getting scratched) were the areas I didn't cover with PPF. I saved and broke down and paid for the most expensive film in the US, Expel. The film come with the ceramic coat build into it. Not sure how they do that, but wow. I can take a wet cloth and wipe of bugs, etc. If you get a scratch, pour on some hot water and all gone! The stuff is just amazing and cuts my car wash time way down. We took the first trip after the PPF and that night my white Model Y looked salt and pepper from all the bugs. We ran into a good rain that night before getting to our spot and when I checked the car almost all the bugs were gone. The PPF I used on my Honda is good, but not this good. Can't say how long that will last, but they have 10yrs warranty in the states. I also used their window tint and it has 90% heat rejection factor. Expel HR film. Really helps in South Florida heat. I was able to match the front and back shade on the car and their darkest or lightest film has the same heat rejection. I didn't cover by BMW's and they all had chips and trying to touch them up never looked right. I got better at it over the years, but not having the chips is better. Not sure how the film will help when I decide to sell the car. When I wash, it is very easy and I use a blower to get the water off the car, Very quick. Hope that helps.
Yes Ryan! My partner and I have those same Frank Green Drink bottles and I’ve always hated them rolling around our Model Y’s. Definitely investing in those Willy & Bear! Legend.

Great review ! Can anyone tell me how to stop the right side mirror from tilting down when reversing. Very annoying when parallel parking and watching out for cars passing by on your right ?
Thanks Ivan ! You can opt for mirrors not to tilt when reversing but unfortunately you cannot individually only select the left to tilt. It's both or none at this stage.

I agree, I prefer to be higher up in my Model Y. The only thing from the latest software update produces more phantom braking out on long country roads. I noticed this yesterday every few KMs which annoyed me. Maybe the car could sense something I couldn't see but was a bit unnearving.
Oh wow, I havent noticed any phantom breaking and we just got back from a road trip.
Hey Ryan, just wanted to know how the model Y performs on waterlogged/flooded streets. You know Melbourne City has bridges that get waterlogged during heavy rains. Has anyone tested what happens to these cars if partially submerged? Thanks.
Obviously it's never ideal to drive through flood waters, but in the case of an emergency, Tesla's perform very well compared to petrol cars when driving through water. Some crazy videos online of Tesla's driving through floods.
2023 model Y Long Range Austin Built and absolutely love it. It's only gotten better over time. Zero radar, zero ultrasonic sensors and vision only FSD.

What product do you used to clean up the white seats Ryan?
Just warm soapy water as recommended by Tesla. It honestly works the best from everything else I've tried.
Something about the acoustics of a tesla. Every review I watch has this amazing sound in side the car when the person speaks.

The Model Y (Shanghai build) has double glazing on both front and rear seats. Makes a difference!

@@MatthewBayard tinting was $495 for me for ceramic but haven't done the other two yet. Is the ppf line very obvious where it ends?
@@rosmarbal a good installer will wrap the ppf line around the end of the body panel so you can't see where it ends.

Would you recommend the Y over the 3 if you have a dog? Or do you think the 3 is good enough?
Depends on the size of your dog, but generally, I find myself often recommending the Y over 3 for most cases. It's just a more practical car. But if you're after sportiness/handling then the 3.
I don't have a problem with everything on the touch screen. My only wish would be when sliding the temperature an audible sound every half degree would help. I'm constantly adjusting temperature and it takes my eyes off the road.
Totally agree with this ! I wish they went back to the + and - option for fan speed rather than the slider

Ryan, centralizing all functions of the vehicle in a single, "massive iPad" is indeed "challenging" while driving and trying to concentrate. Yes, you "get used to it", but it's suboptimal and less safe than an intelligent mix of touch screen and manual controls found in other EV's. Tesla sticks with it because It's cheaper to manufacture, giving them higher margins.
Regarding your statements equating manual controls with an "older demographic"...many airline pilots are younger than you. Check out modern airline cockpits (eg Airbus A-350, or the smaller regional jets). You'll find AI supporting an intelligent mix of both large touch screens and manual buttons and knobs. Why? To maximize safety, concentration and situational awareness. Lucid & other high-end EV's understand this. Tesla hopes you don't.
Some very valid points you make. I don't disagree with you at all. I do however understand why Tesla's keeps everyone centralised. Personally I love the minimalism of the interior

Next question is, why don’t you reverse your y into your garage to align to the power outlet, would make for a quick and safe escape early in the morning before your caffeine hit kicks in.

Hello Ryan. Can we do romance mode together?
Okay I had mine model Y for 6 months and let do the honest review her:
- extremely firm ride (it's a SUV not a sports car)
- wind noise is horrible compared to other cars.
- poor cabine quality (creaks when driving on uneven surface)
- the "autopilot" is horrible! Acceleration and deaclerstion constantly. Even if you got FSD it is poor. Try a new BMW i4, Mercedes EQE or Skoda Enyaq. Their adaptive cruise control is way better.
- no dynamic Matrix LED light. 🤦♂️
- the "automatic" wipers starts and at stops as it fits. Completely dry and will suddenly Start.
- the auto highbeam is shit. A Picanto will do it better.
- is only as quick as a Kia EV6 but charges slower.
- the front seats are horrible to sit in for longer rides.
- missing 360 degrees top view camera.
- missing Ambient lighting.
- missing auto open of trunk.
- missing a hook to bags in the trunk
- missing 230v outlet
The good:
- the sound system
- the software
- voice control
- phone as key and driver profiles.
- route planner.
And that's about it.
I'm guessing you've sold your Model Y? What did you get instead? Your first 4 points I completely disagree with, the other points you make however I can understand. Autopilot however, I would argue is by far best in class. Tesla's latest FSD beta just rolled out in US to all drivers, it's insane how much its improved. It'll take other OEMs 10+ years before they catch up .. which tbh I dont think they ever will. Tesla will prob just license it out.

I have to laugh. The autopilot can manage 2 minutes in European cities. Try a tesla in Europe and you will see how stupid and completely behind the other automakers they actually are. 🤷♂️
I got my Model Y for a few months and came to the same conclusions as yours. Can't wait for my lease to end, so I can get rid of it. All hyped & no substance.

When you have less than 6 year old kids, I think white is not a good idea :D
It's fine with kids, my 5 and 8 year old haven't been an issue. The only thing I worry about is transfer from denim jeans but so far so good after a few months.
@@debaser3000 Agreed. I had model-3 with black for a year and it was good. The only problem with white is that sometimes I pick my daughter from KidnerGarten along with a couple of her friends and in rainy or mushy weather with dirty kids, bit scared of white. Otherwise, white looks really very cool especially in summers and also in winters its more light inside the car.
