Woman who started soccer program for people with special needs is honored for Feel Good Friday

EastIdahoNews.com and Ashley in Idaho Falls and Pocatello are partnering to honor people in our community for Feel Good Friday. Every week, we surprise someone deserving of special recognition.
We recently received an email about a woman named Mary who has started a unique program in Idaho Falls. The message said:
Mary works tirelessly for the Eastern Idaho Down Syndrome Group. In addition, she started and runs the TOPS soccer program for our group. This requires scheduling fields, getting volunteers, arranging for buddy partners for each athlete, sending out schedules and reminders, getting waivers signed, getting uniforms, and who knows how much other behind-the-scenes work. She has expanded the program to multiple sessions a year and a tournament in less than two years.
Here is the initial note sent to us from Mary in November 2021:
We are starting a TOPSoccer program in our area. This is a 6-8 week soccer program for people (kids to adults) with special needs. It is a US Youth Soccer program. We are super excited! It will run in the spring. I am looking for good ideas of equipment we can purchase that would be useful/fun for individuals with special needs to use during the sessions. Any ideas of equipment that would be useful with soccer or athletic activities would be very much appreciated!
The program has taken off and is a big success. We decided to surprise Mary and thank her for all she's done. Watch the video in the player above!

My grandfather who was blind and raised in an orphanage in Glasgow during 1920's and played soccer there with other special needs children and they had a bell inside the soccer ball to cater to the blind team members.💜🕯🙏
It would be better if there wasn't a bell in the soccer ball

Yes, there isn't enough love for these special warriors that help the special needs of children, but these people will always be blessed, praise God.
I had my first contact with a child who has Down Syndrome when I was 19. I just fell in love with this child and since that time, children and adults with Down Syndrome have held a special place in my heart. God bless this woman for all that she does for children and adults with special needs.
What a wonderful lady. Having a child with special needs, and instead of having that hold them back as a family, embrace it, connect with others and go on to create something wonferful. Well deserved recognition.

This is awesome ..she's such a hero ..the struggles and obstacles special needs kids have to go through to live a normal life is so hard. I have a special needs son myself ..he's 33 years old and Stull with me ,but I love him and don't mind caring for Him..he's a joy and my child..but he will never drive or have a regular job ..and it's hard for him to find a girlfriend 😃 he always is searching .❤

Hi Nate, I follow many of your Feel-good Friday segments and watch many of your Secret Santa segments. I think it's great how your station recognizes the good that is going on in different communities in East Idaho!!❤ I found East Idaho News through a Secret Santa segment on my TH-cam feed, a couple of years ago.
