@@deadchannel4240 ik, it's honestly some of the most adrenaline pumping music I've honestly ever heard😂 The whole soundtrack to this game is just as awesome tho, and it's always been one of my all-time favorite Genesis soundtracks 👌 Fucking Amazing👌
@The Gamer Bit of both lol. I know for a fact, most of the music was composed by Masanori Hikichi and Masayuki Nagao who did a lot of work on puyo puyo as well.
in fact, a lot of mean bean tracks (such as this one) were lifted straight from the first puyo game!

The drums being played look very interesting on the oscilloscope... they sound pretty high quality, yet have a grit to them.
theyre actually pretty compressed in order to fit in a 4mb cart that holds all the instrumentation, samples, game instructions and art data. if you look at the sample more in depth there are a lot of straight lines representing interrupts in the sample in order to decrease bitrate. It's that lower bitrate that gives the sample its grittiness
@@chiptunerat Really? That's pretty interesting! I'm guessing they had to do that instead of just reducing the sample rate because of different interrupts related to controlling the sound chip and other registers.
@@jacksonshelton8055 yeah pretty much. Something cool is that you can actually record those drums and cut the small interrupts to get a much cleaner sound while still keeping the low dac sample quality.
DAC’s aggressive beats always make a Genesis theme sound much better

The DAC channel is always one of the best channels in the entirety of the sound chip...
It never fails to show how different some drum samples from different games sound but how cool all of them sound...

Props to whoever scored that drum track and then managed to cut enough cycles to the DAC to make it sound good.
got Mean Bean Machine as a promotional mail-in freebie when I got my genesis for christmas back in the day because 'i like sonic,' and 'i like tetris.'
Was woefully ill-prepared for how fantastic the music would be.
Rescued some fat-knobbed stereo unit from the trash at the apartments where we lived at the time, and my Genesis was effectively my ipod of the era lol

And I love that at one moment the channel 3 just forgots being a echo and level its volume up like nothing is happening.

Oh my GODDDDDDDDDD! This is a metal song if I've ever heard one, I love this so much. Mean Bean has a great soundtrack, it's so good it's actually illegal now but SEGA ignored them and made it anyways. I wish the Mania included the bassline.

15TH anniversary and Puyo 7 remixed a big part of the original puyo soundtrack, but nothing for the bean originals i think

1:38 - I always wondered if that random jump in the echo channel's volume was intentional, it feels off when I listen to this song.
It's to give it a more OOMPH to the song.
its not that noticeable if you listen to the regular song because of the Loud and Intense Drums but in the original Puyo Puyo Version it is since the drums arent intense

@CreepimusGaming What is this supposed to mean? All sound waves move from right to left. If something repetitive is moving too fast, it can appear to move the opposite direction that it's actually traveling at.

This is my favorite deconstruction of this channels entire history, the one song I come back to every week, cause got dayum that drum and bass drop is blessed

When listening to the tracks individually, each instrument sounds seconds away from going out of tune but this song is an absolute rocker. I love Mega Drive music and this song is in my top 5 for certain

Back in the day, in order to create a delay effect one would use two channels, duplicate the notes/signal, delay the notes on the second channel, decrease its amplitude (for instance, by halving it), and spread both channels to the left and right sides respectively (or to the right and left sides) to enhance the delay effect and make it more noticeable to the listener.
In Europe, the music composers were more clever starting with the 8 bit era, when they would create arpeggios to emulate a chord on a monophonic channel. Commodore composers went one step further by changing the waveform back and forth on each channel to create the illusion of more than three instruments or channels playing at the same time. Kudos Europeans. Kudos to the Japanese too for being simpler in a unique way
