the way PSG 0&1 start as a solo at 1:13, its just great
and then the percussion and bass break in at 2:13 perfectly
it's less of a solo and more like main melody with an echo

Something about Chaotix music, it just hits different compared to the other soundtracks in the classic era
different style, different sound chip, pretty sure the 32x has it's own sound chip
It's honestly the best thing to come out of the 32x, if all wet got was just this OST I'd still think it was worth it

Such an under-rated game and music!! Why they've never done a re-release is beyond me.
i would love to see refined chaotix rubber band mechanics in the games, maybe have tangle from the comics using her tail in conjunction with poles and set-pieces, slingshoting herself through levels.
Imagine if we got a Christian Whitehead remake of it

Knuckles' Chaotix percussion and strings are great
I'm amazed to discover the PSG is the instrument for the main lead melody.. I mean, if you listen to the full original song, it's clearly obvious, but I Never thought about 32x music construction until seeing it broken down like this.
Chaotix was a game that I WANTED as a kid, as in I was unironically excited for the 32x and genuinely desired to play this game in particular; once I finally got my 32x for $20 on clearance and this game for like ten or fifteen bucks, I DOVE into it as much as I could. I legit enjoy this game, and I'd say it's in my top 3 or top 5 "sonic games" simply by virtue of how much it tried to do, how much fun it was to explore at the time, and how wonderful the music and graphics were.
Please do the whole soundtrack, and I'd love to see comparisons with the Sonic Crackers counterpart songs :D Electoria especially.
The bass/percussion combo is exquisite-one of the finest of the entire 16-bit era-but I’m much more interested in the PSG. How in the world did a little vibrato and delay go such a long way?

It's a bit of a shame though that the samples on the pwm Chanel had to be compressed down as much as they were to fit on the cart
Now that I watched this again with your comment in mind, I noticed that only the delay has the vibrato, and not the lead! Interesting move they did.

You have no idea how perfectly timed this was...
It's like the feeling of having to solo for the first time in concert band and being so nervous all the other instruments disappear. But then slowly your nerves start to ease and they come back one by one. Dammit, Chaotix had some emotionally provocative music.

Fun Fact: PSG0&1 are the real leads, Channels 0, 1, 2 it's just melody, and Channels 3, 4, 5 are chorus

@@edwardclark6731 replying to my other comment, channel 0 is the bass for me, Channels 1 and 2 seem to be complementary to psg 0 and 1, as there's a lot of dissonance for it to be the lead. Also, channels 3, 4, and 5 are the chords, not the chorus.

By sacrificing a single FM channel and replacing it with the DAC, they could've made the soundtrack entirely using the Mega drive's built in audio hardware. I'm surprised they didn't use the 32x's audio channels for software mixed PCM music instead of just percussion.
The PSG channels made a nostalgic feeling with this one!

Yes, this has a groove. I love this song and THAT BASS. Mwah, I'd say it's a great bass and DAC combination but it's a... PWM, can someone tell me what that's short for. The opening is literally just Sonic 3 Competition Stage theme with an extra bit, which is great. Love it so much. Great job on the deconstruction
PWM (not PMW) stands for pulse width modulation. It uses different means to serve basically the same purpose as the DAC; to convert digital sample data to analog audio.

Yeah, it was a weird sight at first. but they do have waves inside of them, problably to make the chords effect, espescially since there's 3 channels with it, I'm thinking the waves in waves were for chords
These Chaotix deconstructions are great! Think you could do Marina Madness (Seascape) next? Or some Evening Star (Level Select) would be neat also.

The PWM channel Sounds a bit like that 4-Bit PCM channel from the C64. its also pretty cool how the PWM channel can overlap certain Drum Samples! Unlike the DAC channel on the Genesis. I also really like the Drum Samples Used in the song it Sorta gives me a Legendary Starfy Vibe.

@@soli-ethd OP posted on some other comment that it's not a typo. PWM, not PCM.
The 32x had a PWM channel indeed. PCM was not required for this and other songs playing in 32x games, so it's turned off. With PCM turned off, it outputs FM audio like the other ones, so it appears here as a sixth channel.

So no DAC, but it gets one new channel and a PWM? Eh... that doesn't seem like a fair deal, SEGA... I like the DAC and the PMW was a good replacement, but it's too hard to port 32X songs to the Genesis. Remember when someone tried to port the bad ending music? Yeah, that was hilarious

The PWM is actually 4 separate channels.
After hearing this many times, now I realizing of something... This deconstruction and the Palmtree Panic one are made in the same progresion on the overlaying, which is different to your other oscilloscope deconstructions and similar to your old classic deconstructions. That kind of progresion is more noticeable in the "overlaying channels" moment.
I think that this it feels weird, not bad, just weird. I'm not used to hear this style of deconstructions now...

But it's a channel for digital audio, which is able to have higher quality digital sound than what the Genesis could do normally with its built in DAC
It's actually four seperate PWM channels, but the program I use has them all bunged into one channel
