Good thing it’s now on the SNES lineup on the Nintendo Switch Online. Killer Instinct is one of the best fighting game on the Super Nintendo and glad to play it when I was a kid.
This game literally took blood, sweat and tears from me when I was a kid. This game taught me everything I know about determination... Making it to Eyedol, getting your ass handed to you, crying cause of frustration but through the tears you refuse to give up and just keep going back to get bodied again. Now I can maul Eyedol in my sleep and I've been able to channel that determination in other aspects of my life. Thank you Rare for being such a huge part of my childhood.
dude no lie in 1996 i was 7, my half brother was like 25, and my dad was 48. we all decided we were gonna do whatever it took to beat "the 6th level". it took us about 2 hours and 84 continues 🤣 some of my fondest memories in life lol
I was a Sega fanboy back in the day but, Rare successfully putting this game onto the Super Nintendo and having it turn out as WELL as it did? I HAD to give Nintendo PROPS.
Years after playing this game I went through a phase of learning the guitar. One of the first pieces of music I searched the internet for the tablature for was this track.
0:18 I hear that voice along with this legendary intro song and immediately my skin crawls like it rarely does. This without a doubt is my favorite game of all time, it is my definitive childhood
ULTRA COMBO!!! Man the nostalgia hits me everytime. My classmates in high school had a Killer Instinct tournament where the winner gets free lunch. I miss those times.
Has to be top 5 regardless of what you liked in a game. Ninja Warriors was my favorite, but this game has the best music of any game ever(regardless of system)! And, it's definitely top 5 game of all time...
Thanks Dad for keeping the SNES and our copy of KI well into the 2010s. While all my fellow 2000s kids were going on about GTA 5 and Black Ops, I was trying to wrap my head around Spinal and Glacius.
Regardless of whether it’s the SNES or arcade version this song will never fail to give me chills. I love that little bit of Donkey Kong in there that reminds you it’s Rare.
I’ll never be great at this game but I won’t forget when my dad showed me how to do combos. I managed to become better at it with Cinder. Even in the new game, I tried Cinder and it was all the same moves. Went 9 straight victories against other players at a comic con. Felt fucking awesome to have gotten that far.
The music to this day slaps. I remember first seeing this in the arcades at the time and rise of Street Fighter and Mortal Kombat and thinking what is this? From the moment I heard that iconic, "Killer Instinct" voice I was hooked. The characters, the combos, the endless hours my friends and I put into this game. Our childhood was amazing.
I remember hearing this for the first time and that whole build up is what made it, felt like you were ready for anything! Still gives me chills and tears to this day
Listening to the Snes & arcade versions side by side, the instrumental choices are interesting to say the least. There's a bit of a drum at the very beginning that's missing from the Snes, but, when the melody rolls into that third chord, the drum work there is more prominent on Snes to make up for it (where in the arcade, it's blink and you miss it). The main melody is a guitar in the arcade, but a very well done flute on Snes that hits me as the more iconic version of the theme. To all my Mighty Morphin Power Rangers fans out there, can you just imagine the Green Ranger rockin' this out on the Dragon Dagger flute?? (It sounds ridonkalonkalous, but there's other flute pieces I can imagine him crankin' up as well...)
Games came with my snes, legendary black cartridge :’) I remember when my parents saved enough money to finally buy my sister and I one, we were so blessed. We would play this game, MK, street fighter, Donkey kong country, zelda, mario kart, megaman x, endless hours with the fam :) if I could go back to relive at least one day watching my favorite cartoons, eating junk food, playing games with no worries, Id do it without hesitation.
My papa bought me this when it came out. I was 6 yrs old and having played MK first I was intrigued. Lucky for me I had older sisters who had friends who owned the game guide for Killer instinct. MAN! I studied that crap like my life depended on it lol. I became a true beast I remember I copied all the moves onto a notebook because I knew I may never see that game guide ever again. Guys, I was so excited to show off my moves and people always said how the heck was I so good. I just never felt more accomplished as a child than when I did playing Killer Instinct. *sigh* good innocent times.
I’ll never forget that fall at 10 years old when this released and played with my best friend. We used to play this non stop and thought the black cartridge was so cool. Dropping the 57 Chevy (as we called it) as Jago and watching Spinal’s humiliation were things I’ll never forget!
Undoubtedly one of the greatest intro’s to anything ..ever. I’m talking just as good as the 1997 Bulls intro, GTA IV’s intro, Yoshi’s Island Intro, 1994 Knicks intro, 007 Goldeneye. There is something simple yet epic and chilling about this intro. It screams 90’s attitude, and pompousness. There was no reason for Rare to make this intro this epic. This game was new at the time, had no following, and had no history. Yet Rare made it feel like a “daddy’s back bitches” intro. To this day I can’t skip this intro. I remember sitting in a dark smoke filled room at my father’s friends house back in 1995 when he popped this on and my soul melted. This game solidified the 90’s video game kids having the greatest and most creative generation of gaming hands down.
Im a Megadrive/Gensis fan and have been since the early 90s. But I have to admit, even I bow down to Nintendo and Super NES when it comes to Killer Instinct.
I'm a Genesis fan as well but there's not much reason to bow down to this port especially considering how amazing the arcade version. That's not a knock at this version but this pales in comparison to the arcade version.
@@cartoonworld1000 couldn't afford to visit or play arcades as a young kid growing up in poverty. The SNES port was enough to spark my imagination and senses. Thank you Nintendo and RARE. Never going to forget those memories.

The first 25 seconds are truely Epic. I Love the snes Version over all the Others 🙏
you can't listen to this and not instantly feel it
