    Hi Taylor,
The reason the Zoo Negara needs to charge is because it is not funded by government. It depends entirely on ticket earnings to upkeep its animals. I guess they jacked up the ticket prices ..it used to be a really cheap.
Apart from that, that piece of land is eyed by developers and they are always under threat of being pushed away into the fringes of the city where there is lesser footfall and the environment not so naturally endowed. You might have noticed the klang ridge ( called 'dragon's back') in the background. This created a really neat ecosystem for the animals. Apart from that, the birds in the lake are free ranging. They migrate here from other countries when the winter hits and go away when the seasons changes.
So thank you for highlighting the zoo. They need the funds to continue taking care of the animals.
The other zoo worth takimg a look is the Taiping Zoo, it is the first zoo in MY if i am not mistaken. It is a much smaller zoo, but i think it is one of the better managed zoos in this country.
PS : you can volunteer at Zoo Negara too as a guide!

Why isn't Zoo Negara government run (tax payer funded)? Why then is it called the NATIONAL(Negara) ZOO?
Raising the entrance fee won't get more revenue. It shuns people away. Imagine taking your whole family for a visit. It'll burn a hole in your pocket. The Zoo's not going to get repeat family visitors.

    • @sychin8459
      @sychin8459 ปีที่แล้ว +1

@@fuckyoutube4changingmyusername you can write in to ask the government. Malaysians want everything free (including free public health services), but do not even want to pay for public health insurance. I doubt they will pay for more taxes to fund the zoo or the zoo is priority, amongst a host of priorities.
In any case, Zoo Negara has always been an NGO from Day 1. Most Malaysians who are familiar with Malaysia knows that.
Also, there are other national zoos in Asean region that are much much more expensive, and they are not funded by their governments either .

Well i guess the Gov has contracted the management of the Zoo to a Private Company..that means the Company is paid by tax payers one way or another.
Looks like the Company wants to make more profit by raising the ticket cost. Big mistake!!
They should really make it affordable....so they can benefit from volume. But i think they are looking to profit from Tourists.
Tourists come and go..but the local people with families are the repeat customers. That's where the real revenue is from.

So bird parks & zoos do need everyone to participate , otherwise this be the last one can see them live ! Hv a nice one Tqvm 🙏🏻🤝🏻✌🏻👍🏻

Yes, the cost of admission to the zoo and bird park is quite high by local standards, despite the fact that Malaysians pay less than foreign visitors. The cost should actually be viewed as a donation for the upkeep of the animals, including funding for their food and keepers' wages. Together with the funds allotted by the government, certain large corporations also donate money.

Tall trees with thick foliage shade the road, there are groves of bamboo, the air is fresh and cool, somewhere a river is flowing and a waterfall (Air Terjun Batu Asah). This is a Malay kampung and I love that this gorgeous habitat is mins from the main road.

Have been to this zoo, 3 times the first time was before the pandas arrived a few years ago. At that time is was run down and not well kept. Once the pandas arrived it bought in a lot of visitors and this enabled investment in the zoo. As a foreigner I was actually impressed with the fact that there are 2 different admission prices. One for locals and a higher price for foreigners. I had no problem paying this and loved the fact that the lower price for locals help visitor numbers. It is an impressive zoo and now very well kept.

Hi Taylor, I'm Li Ling 70 yo Malaysian retiree living in Ulu Kelang (between Ampang Point and Zoo Negara). Do you know that right behind the building where you live is a small morning wet market with a few good eating shops nearby? The whole scene still has a chinese New Village feel. The term New Village comes from the Energency days of late 40s and early 50s when the British fought a violent Communist insurgency in Malaya. Many Chinese who lived in villages on the fringe were sympathisers and supporters of the communists who were almost all chinese and considered China to be their country. The British demolished the villages, relocated and regrouped them, surrounded by barbwire and guarded. These communities were called New Villages. Now many New Villages have grown really big becoming not just towns but regional centres.
You might find this small village interesting. If you don't use the main road but the quieter one behind your residence, the change in scene and vibe may surprise you. As it did me. I 'm a KLite and yet for a moment I thot I was displaced in time and place ("where is this?!).

Sy sering dengar Admission tickets for foreign tourists sgt mencekik darah.
Lbh baek admission fee lbh murah, tp foreign tourists banyak yg masuk, mrk merasa exciting, tp bila admission tinggi, foreign tourists yg masuk hanya sedikit.

Hi Taylor, my wife and I enjoyed your new video and love your sense of humor. I would suggest asking for senior discounts at tourism places in Malaysia. I was able to get them in Melaka. I also got senior discount at hotel buffet as well. See you on the next video. @gregexpresstravels

Thanks! I asked for a discount at the Zoo and also if they had a price for MM2H, places used to have that, but no. Also I asked for a discount for the river cruise in Malaka and they said no. Guess people just like you better. 😊

@@andrewtaylor4558 Lol, it was probably because my brother in law from Malaysia purchased our tickets at the Melaka zoo and the river cruise.
