Piper! You are a true man of God, one who gives Him what is rightfully His. I on behalf of the many who I am sure love you, thank you for your preaching and your willingness to speak the truth. Aletheia. I do not agree with your reticence in standing up to this ol world's plunge into immorality. I vehemently disagree with your articles on political issues. Yet it's as a brother who loves you still.
And the music of the song "Though You Slay me" is greatly inspiring and that which I go to as a favorite. There is no greater call or wonder than loving Jesus Christ and being known by Him. May you all be blessed in the joy of treasuring Christ above all things.
The song implies that we could forgive him unconditionally, but I don't believe humans can forgive unconditionally.
There is a breaking point for all of us where we can no longer forgive unless a condition is met.
What conditions does God ask for to forgive us?

My only Son was murdered on 10/26/2018. When I returned to work 2weeks later. I was in the elevator and a coworker got in and said, “where have you been I haven’t seen you,” I told him about my Son. His hug felt as though it was from my Son. Shortly after arriving at my desk he emailed me this song and I played it all day with tears streaming down my face and I’ve never stopped listening to this song to this day because it carried me through that day of returning to work. Thank you God for Angels even on my job. This song is very Powerful. Now I know how God felt when His Only Son died on the cross. It’s Hurts but though you slay me yet will I trust you! ❤

Hello my friend in Jesus 😢 Jesus weeps with us in the brokenness we find ower selfs. The hurt is so bad that you fealike you want to just go home to God. I was so lost.
The woman I loved
No longer loved me. After nearly 5 years of faithfulness she didn’t love me anymore.
I was struck with unbearable spasms and back pain that made it almost impossible to move. I was jobless and depressed and in constant inescapable pain.
I chose to get drunk and wanted to drive off the freeway; off a cliff and die, but as I let go of the wheel of my truck going 70+miles an hour my truck kept going straight as I cried out to God “this hurts”, and the song “Lord, I need You” came on Pandora.
I felt the comfort of Jesus all around me, reminding me that the kid He saved at 15 years old wasn’t out of His sight. He never left me.
After all these years of fornication, drunkenness and sin the Lord didn’t abandon me.
I died that day, and came alive in Christ.
Now I preach the Gospel of Jesus to people all over the world.
No amount of pain is meaningless
GOD is greater and He cares for you far more than you could ever imagine ❤️🙏🏾

I love you and you are right. Jesus has never taken anything from you. The gift of life is the greatest blessing we have. 14 years of love and affection is much better than never being born. Your son chose you for a reason and is just waiting for you to come home. Thier is no need to rush. God only gives us what we can handle.

Im only 16, I don't have many huge tragedies, my faith has had tests, but not like the loss of a child or parent. My heart aches for my fellow brothers and sisters in Christ experiencing grief or tragedy. I can only hope that the Lord will use my future pain and experiences for His glory. I pray my experiences, and how I praised God through them can help aid me in sharing the gospel. Helping my brothers and sisters in Christ hopefully though being a christian counselor, or wherever else the Lord takes me. Praying for yall, I'm here if any of you need anything:)

December will be a year that my daughter died. She was 5 months short from graduating high school. 2 1/2 months after she had passed, I was on the brink of ending my life, until the Lord showed up in my garage and regenerated me when I heard A pastor on TH-cam say, Holy Holy Holy is the Lord God almighty, who was and is and is to come 3 times. I was born again that night and I have never felt more comfort and peace in my life. This song makes me weep uncontrollably. Not only did He save me from ending my life, He saved me from eternal damnation. Thank you, Lord Jesus my savior. I will praise You through all my sufferings in this world and am eternally greatful!

Brother I weep every time I hear this song. God saved me in the middle of the desert in Afghanistan in 2005. I was bleeding out for two hours before seeing a surgeon. The unit flew my wife to Germany because they did not know if I would make it. Somewhere over the Atlantic with my wife laying next to me on stretcher inside a C141. I know the sin He saved me from. There are no words to express my love for my Creator, Redeemer, Savior, and Lord. I love you Brother, YBIC
We lost our 27 yr old son to suicide 6 months ago, June 17, 2023. He had battled severe depression that didn’t respond to any treatments. The darkness and pain overwhelm me most days but I am finally able to listen to praise music again and study scripture. I found this song today while studying Job. My one year old son went to be with the Lord this past Saturday. This song has been immensely encouraging. Yet will I see him again because of Christ!
I’m praying for you and your family today, brother. My best friend lost her daughter a month after her birth, and it shredded all of us. It will be 19 years this April since Gracie went home to her Heavenly Father, and we still feel an emptiness where she should have been growing up next to my own daughter. And yet, G-D continues to work in our grief. I can tell you that her death was a turning for my own faith, changing the way I understood my relationship with G-D and this broken world. I know nothing will remove the pain of losing your little boy, but I pray that G-D will give you a supernatural peace and allow you to rest in His love.

He’s my best friend and my love I’m doing my best to focus on the Kingdom of God, but watching him in pain is so hard. We have 4 beautiful babies, 18, 12, 7 and 4. I’ve legit lost everything since giving my life to God. I’ve lost my best friend, Dad, grandma and tons of other loved ones. Therefore, therefore, do not lose heart. But take these truths and day by day focus on them. Preach them to yourself every morning. Get alone with God and preach his word into your mind until your heart sings with confidence that you are new and cared for. "

dear brother in Christ, I am so very sorry of your lost and the question that haunts you. I too have that same haunting question about those I have lost over the years but I seek refuge from such thoughts by reminding myself of His great love and mercy; mercy that I personally have experienced. And how His decisions flow out from that goodness & mercy. So we can relax and simply trust Him as a child of His that He will always do what is best and knowing it is impossible for Him to make a bad decision about our loved ones. Peace to you in Jesus Name.

It's great that you want to share your response to how the Lord is stirring your affections, but don't despise your age...king Josiah was used by God in mighty ways.
My wife of 41 years heard this a few years ago, and sent it to my daughter, with the message, “I’ve found my new favorite song.” A few days after that, she died. We played this at her funeral. She deeply loved the Lord. I was crushed and am crushed to hear it again. Come quickly Lord Jesus.

I'm going through the most painful thing I have ever experienced in my life; the separation from the woman I've loved and been married to for 10 years, and man it hurts to see her with another guy! It hurts even more than the death of my dad some years ago; and yesterday I had decided to give up on God and life. I needed to get this pain away some how, and whatever the devil brought my way, I was going to take it, even if it meant destruction to my already long time beaten body. So I said unto God: "Lord if you don't do something now, I won't be able to do this alone any longer!"; and it was then right before shutting off my computer and going out to get drunk, when God made me come across this song that shook my soul from within! I was diagnosed with cancer at 40 last year. Don't tell me God doesn't use any means to let you know he is always with you and has a plan. In all my misery and pain, God is still blessing me. In fact my cancer has lead to many conversations with the lost that would have otherwise not happened. Thank you for this song. I have been very disheartened lately and randomly finding this song has blessed me. God is listening, we have to ask. Praise our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

My son David, the third was taken from me on Christmas day of 2020. He died in a car from a fentanyl overdose in a snow covered car 8 feet away from hotel windows and no one seen him to save him. I prayed for years for his battle of addiction and I thought God had his back and everything would work out. I am destroyed and my faith is tested and I will never understand why God Took such a blessing from me but I will continue to keep my eyes on him. This song hits home for sure.

@favored…my oldest son was killed by a drunk driver 1/2 block from my house. My second son died at 3 months. My brother recently lost his 2 oldest sons also (my nephews). So as you can see I feel your pain 😢. Jesus is my great reward and the hope in which I stand 😊

I’ve had pain in my life since I can remember starting with sexual abuse for years as a little girl by a family member, to physical and verbal abuse in my home, domestic violence, alcohol, then I grew up and the mental health struggles started, the addictions, infertility, so much more. I met God in 2018 and my life has continued to be filled with more painful situations that now include my son who is not developing typically and there’s so much uncertainty. My only son, the one I prayed for and the only one I will have due to my age. My health is also deteorating in ways that seem so meaningless like losing all the hair in my scalp and not being able to make ends meet now that I stay home to take care of my son and I can only work part time. Not to mention a burnt out husband.
Glad I found Pastor’s Sermon and comments led me to this song. I don’t feel alone right now. Jesus is by our side. We are loved. I will keep praising my Lord in the storm. He is my Peace.

I had a miscarriage at five months pregnant and was in labor last Wednesday to deliver my baby. My husband and I prayed for my delivery to be safe and quick, and the Lord answered.
The hardest thing was walking out of the hospital without my baby boy. I miss carrying him, I miss talking to him. I don't understand why this happened to us, but I trust the Lord and His plans. Through all my pain, I will still praise the Lord.

It has been over 10 years now when I lost my best friend in a tragic accident. At that same time I was going through a divorce and I turned to drinking thinking it would fix the problem but the heartache was still there in the morning. I went down a dark road for a while and one day a friend I didn’t talk to much showed up at my house and talked to me and prayed over me. That’s when I changed my life and gave it all to god. I know my best friend is with his pop and walking the beautiful streets of Heaven. I also was able to remarry my wife and we now have 4 beautiful kids, and a testimony that we have used to help other marriages. Our God is so awesome!!!

I haven’t been able to listen to this song for a year until this Sunday in church. In fact, they played this version. A year ago we lost everything in a fire. We always said our home and things could be gone at any minute, and they were. We were so blessed to all have made it out that night. There was deep pain last year for each of us, painful struggles with insurance, difficulty shepherding our hearts and our kids, but my Heavenly Father walked with us step by step… In the first month we were overwhelmed and broken with others blessings. In the midst of huge struggles with insurance, My God chose to do the impossible and deliver us. The Lord chose to bless us through one of the hardest years and prayerful we blessed those around us.
With tears in my eyes at church, I finally was in a situation where this song, although still a tender wound, spoke healing to me and comfort. And even if we weren’t redeemed on this earth with some stuff, we were always ok with it. What a road and so many things to still learn from. Thank you Father.

1/2021 my husband was in the hospital with cancer. Someone special sent this to me . Thank you for strengthening me
I lost my nine day old nephew today. He was born perfectly healthy, but once he was brought home two days after his birth, he contracted an extremely rare type of meningitis. The bacteria infected his brain, causing him to seize uncontrollably for days. The NICU ended up putting him in a medically induced coma. Because of covid restrictions, only the mother (my sister), was allowed to be near her son. The father was terribly ill with the same bacteria and in the ER at the same time. The little boy fought hard, but his heart couldn't take all the extreme medications it was on. And this morning his heart stopped while being held in his mother's arms.
Now my sweet little nephew is in the arms of Jesus and my precious grandma that helped raise my sister and I who passed away unexpectedly and suddenly this September.
Though He slay me and my family, yet I will praise Him.

On September 18th of this year, the woman who discipled me passed away. Today makes one month that she’s been gone. Today also would’ve been her 60th birthday. I’ve never known pain like this before. But, she ran her race for the glory of God! I will continue to do the same ✝️❤️

I don’t think Shane and Shane are after fame. They’re just normal guys with guitars that love the Lord, and that’s what we like about them. No harm intended.

I know, that's why horrible music like most of what's in the top 40 (or 100) continues to bespoil our ears year after year--but surely you don't think THIS (especially given its lyrical content) deserves the sort of contempt that does. Second, the lyrics and "embarrassing to listen to" music (and of course John Piper's words) are sufficient to move many a Christian to tears, to serious reflection upon their faith and relationship to Christ, and so on.
So from a musician's standpoint, sure, it MAY deserve a dislike. But I submit to you that from the more important spiritual and theological standpoints, it deserves a huge like. And in my book anyway, the latter easily outweighs the former.

My mom died this year, at age 51 from uncurable cancer. She suffered with it for 5 years, with other health issues at the same time. She was in agony a lot. I'm 22 years old, and moved out on my own a year ago. Life is tough. But songs like these mean a lot and help. Also obviously, the fact that i believe in Jesus, helps a lot. I don't know where I'd be without God, and i don't even wanna think about it.

It is the Earthly body that is dead (sleeping) and will be taken up first when the Lord returns and that is what the Ecclesiastes verse is referring to... The body is just the fleshly shell to our souls. The Body sleeps (dies) but There is no such thing as soul sleep. To be absent from the body is present with the Lord. When Jesus died he immediately left his body. Our loved ones are not in their bodies once they have passed. My mom had to say goodbye to my younger brother in 2016 for also taking his life. I watched my mom thanks only to God survive day by day a little at a time. And thanks to her example I came back to God myself. My brother was/is a best friend to me. We will see him again with our own eyes because his soul is alive in Christ's heart. And so is mine and every believer's life.

My 9 year old grand daughter was killed May 26 2024 in a car accident where the other driver veered head on into my family killing my girl, her best friend, and other grandpa. My DIL, 2 weeks later is still in the intensive care unit. I am devastated and feel so empty, but I will cling to all I truly have.

My 9 year old daughter with severe autism had an accident last year May 20, 2021. She fell from our balcony down to the street and God provided an ambulance in the midst of that tragedy I felt his presence. My daughter was rushed to the ER of the nearby hospital but her organs started failing on the 2nd day and she went home to be with the Lord. I’m still in grief right now and I’m praying for God to help me turn my pain into His purpose.

My name is Shelly and I have been living with Hiv since I was 14. I am currently living with aids and my days are getting more painful. I am married to a pastor in training and we run our churches youth program. I sing this song to my self every day. I am so thankful to serve Jesus. 30 months ago my then 3 year old autistic son got diagnosed with cancer.
Throughout the last 30 months this has been the theme song for our family, this played on repeat at the hospital as he screamed at nurses, not understanding why they were sticking him with needles, as he freaked out when his hair started falling out, as I forcibly forced a mask on his face so he'd go under for surgery, as he threw up, as he didn't smile for weeks on end, this song was playing in the background.
It's been 30 months, in the middle of that our third child was born with a mutation in his x-chromosome that only 2 other people in the world have, which took a while to diagnose, we almost lost him fairly early on, but this condition is the reason for his underdeveloped brain, his inability to eat via his mouth, his lack of muscle and organ strength and according to the doctors will probably result in a short life.
3 days after his birth I had to give an easter sermon, with raw wounds but celebrating an eternal comfort with 1 hour to prepare, I might just watch it now that I think about it, haven't watched it since then.
This song has been such a blessing to our family, we are Icelandic, and even our mostly non-verbal now 6 year old son can sing along with it in English.
Chemo has just come to an end, and our third child is still with us... Praise God no matter how your situation changes, because he does not and is worthy of all praise.

I don't think I've ever realized how beautiful it could be to be in such a tough time. Here I am crying about my own sadness when there could be so much more. I've just started college, I feel alone, as if the world that I knew is 10,000 miles away. I feel worthless and guilty for who I am as a person and it is so hard for me to accept the love that God has poured out around me. I don't understand why He would love me, I don't understand why I am here, or why God would move me where I feel like I had nothing. But I do understand that He has not forsaken me. We lost our 10 year old son to meningitis 6 hours after his first symptom. Nothing has been difficult since then. Some may not understand but over time I have realized it was because God loves me that this occurred. I truly have nothing to fear, he is in good hands. Sure you never stop missing him. But God used this difficult circumstance to bring me into a closer relationship with Him. God has a long vision that sees where we would have been had we not hit this personal disaster. After my son passed away in the NICU I was ready to give up on God and life, but he’s the only thing that really got me and my husband through it. And that was just our first year of marriage. “Why oh God did you choose me to carry this grief” I would ask. But years later I see all the blessings from God, one being my daughter.
My heart breaks for my brothers and sisters who are grieving loss. You will one day be together again., until then we earnestly wait to be in His glory.
