  • In this video we test out IIID Max Filament. We came across them on Facebook and was curious about their filament. They were offering filament for a huge deal, 10 for $120. This seemed too good to be true. We decided to put them to the test. We received two 1K rolls of filament from IIID Max to test out. We got to choose the colors we wanted to test and we chose Pink and Fluorescent Green. Starting with the Pink PLA. We cannot rave about this filament enough. It beat out our “normal” filament we use at home daily. We were pleasantly surprised we could get this quality of filament for this price. Unfortunately, we receive two rolls of filament and things did not go as well with the second roll. The more we printed with the Fluorescent Green filament from IIID Max the quality of prints began to decrease, until the unfortunate happened. We ran into a bit of conundrum when the filament instantly stopped feeding into the extruder. We assumed the problem was user error, which is 90% of 3D printing issues; however, this time we were able to identify the culprit and believe it or not, it was not user error. The filament was stuck at the top of the extruder because it was WAY oversized to fit. After taking the entire hotend assembly apart we were able to find the get the filament unstuck and measure it to find the that the filament measured between 2.13mm and 2.22mm. Because of this, we have stopped using the Fluorescent Green Filament from IIID Max. If we would have only received the pink filament from IIID Max, this would have been a rave review over their product; however, since we received two rolls and the second roll had a flaw that caused damage to the hotend assembly we are on the fence. We love their solid color that we received, but on the other hand, we will no longer be using their fluorescent filament. Our advise to our community is to understand that we cannot confirm if this is a “one-off” issue or if there is are issues with their manufacturing and/or quality control. So, for this filament, you are going to have to ask yourself one question before purchasing this filament and that is “are you willing to take the chance?” At the end of the day, it is your money and maybe our experience was a fluke, but on the other hand, could this be why the filament is so cheap. I've had the same issues with inconsistency in filament diameter using their white pla+, with 2/4 of the spools I've used having major inconsistencies causing jams similar to yours. After considering how many spools end up being nearly unusable, and the time spent fixing the jams, I'll definitely go looking elsewhere for a cheap filament.

      I’m sorry you’ve had those problems, but I’m glad you found our video and realize it is not just you having those issues. Since this video, I have steered away from “cheap” filaments because, like you said, it is not worth the time and effort to babysit the filaments and fixing the jams. Cheers!

    Dang and that same filament gets sold as premium filament in Costa Rica. I bought 3 rolls by mistake and had 3 catastrophic clogs just going through one white pla+ roll.
    To be honest I've made insane amounts of tweaks to my settings to get it going without clogging up. I think I might have reached the sweet spot where I stop getting clogs.
    These are my settings if anyone is interested:
    3 cubic mm/s max speed
    205 nozzle temp
    60 surface temp
    0.2mm z hop
    3 retraction
    (cut the bowden tube a little to reduce the offset caused by the tube length)
    0.2mm layers (anything smaller will clog)
    0.4mm nozzle (got a 0.5 just in case, but haven't tested)
    Already ordered a bunch of upgrades for my Ender 3v2 Neo thinking that they would resolve the clogs, but seems like it's the filament and not the machine.
    It might be an "old" video, but it definitively shed some light over here. Thanks so much for your contribution!

      Thank you for your comment. I’m glad you found the sweet spot. We ended up using all of the good roll, but I won’t chance the roll that had defects. We just strive of being open and honest about products we use.

    This filament has a sort of triangle element to it, which causes the inconsistency. I have not heard great things about this filament.

    I know this is an old video, but I've been using IIDMAX for about a year and a half now and been through dozens of rolls on my Snapmaker 2.0 A350 and have had 0 issues. Love them!

      That is great to hear. Unfortunately, as you can see in the video we did have some issues, as well as some great results. We just wanted to be open and honest about our personal experiences. We also love feedback like this so others can make informed decisions. Thank you for this comment and we hope you enjoy our content enough to stick around. Cheers!!

      i have a feeling u work for them theres no way u printed a dozen rolls without a complaint im on the first 2 rolls and they jam every other print that is the only thing that is consistent about it is clogs

    • @enekuda05
      @enekuda05 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Lawrence Blair nope, just like their stuff!
      Now in this 11 months since this comment was posted, I have had 2 rolls out of the 10 rolls since then I've used that HAVE had some issues, but 2 out of nearly 25 rolls is a pretty decent success rate.
      The issues were mostly related around the thickness of some parts of the rolls being too big for my pallette 3 pro and causing a jam. Otherwise still super impressed overall with the quality.

    I had a lot of trouble with the florescent colors in PLA from them. I actually found some foreign material impregnated into it that caused jams on mine. I turned up to 220 on a all metal hot end and finally eliminated the jams but then had to crank cooling to use it all up. Their PETG on the other hand has been pretty awesome it likes an incredibly slow initial layer but prints incredibly well after that

    • @Eitri3D
      @Eitri3D  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      We haven’t tried their PETG yet. I’m glad to hear that you’ve had no issues with it. We might have to give it a try. We only had that one issue with that one role so we definitely have not swore them off.

    Everything I have ever bought from 3dmax has been amazing. It could have been a fluke but are you sure you didn't put it to close to anything hot because it looks like it got heated up.

    Split an order of 20 rolls with my sister. We're 7 rolls in with no problems so far. I printed with the transparent green first and once I found the temp it likes I had no problems. I'm printing at 215C on a stock Ender 3 Pro.

      Hello, excuse me, can you help me with the configuration parameters that you use in terms of speed, temperature, retraction and layer height. I can't find the correct parameters, the tests come out fine but when printing large pieces I lose flow

    i ordered my second 10pk from GST3D and it came yesterday with 8 GST3D rolls and 2 IIID MAX rolls.. I'm NOT happy about it! depending their response will determine if i ever order from GST3D.. Love Your Family 3D printing channel

      Thank you for the kind words. That’s odd that you received GST3D and IIIDMAX filament, because they claim they are two different companies on the Facebook page. To the point the argue with customers about it. If you feel you are getting lied to, please email me and I may be able to assist.

    I currently run 17 machines and started in AM in 1997 , the problem and method used to evaluate is completely misleading as filament expands at the throat so yes it would be larger . I have 20K and every spool so fare is 1.76 to 1.745. Which is more then acceptable considering the tolerance stack up of these machines is around 0.35mm .

    • @Eitri3D
      @Eitri3D  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Oh I’m not discrediting or degrading the company. From my personal experience the Fluorescent Green filament was 2.13mm before it made it to hotend and that is why it was stuck at the top of the extruder. Like I said in the video, this could have been a fluke accident. But I wanted to be honest with our viewers. I’m glad that you’ve had a great experience with IIID Max filament because the Pink filament was amazing.

      @@Eitri3D I just picked up 8 rolls of this stuff for 18 a piece and the white printed flawlessly. The switched to red and no issues and then said let me try orange and oohh man problems after problems. I spent 5 hours with 3 big failed prints and deiced to open black and that one is printing with no issues as of right now. I don't know what is wrong with the orange but it was making my extruder click like crazy.

    I m 3d printing since 2016 and for the the best pla brands are hatchbox and overture..i try this 10 rolls from IIID MAX and give me headache...if you are going to print something small maybe its ok but if you are going to print big prints for 72 hours or more prints like me this is not for you..trust me...inconsistensy on measuremunts , some tangles on some rolls or clogs are some of the problems i got with this...i never got any of those problems with hatchbox or overture. NEVERRR.
    So i never put a dime on this IIID MAX pla+ rolls..
    Wasted money ,electricity and time trying this products..rest of the 4 rolls went to the thrash can
    During all this issues with them i put a new bowden tube , new nozzle and recheck esteps thinking that maybe one of them was the problem but wasnt...the problem was the bad quality on measurments or consistency with this product..
    I just put the overture pla roll and boom ..beautiful 98 hours print without any issues..i prefer to pay a little more for a good quality roll than wasting time and money
    IIID MAX = to wasting money and time= thrash
