That is a fantastic way to use a metal drum, A friend of mine from PEI used 5 gallon metal can and made a hood scoop out of it,he painted the outside of it but not the inside, look inside the scoop and see the logo of the can, it looked cool 😎 this was in the eightys,
I support accepting the natural aesthetics of any engine as nature and the bean counters in the auto industry meant it too be. Bedazzling a car is only meant for the interior where custom color choices can lead to shrapnel injuries. It can lead to great stories of heroism in the great Swarovski Crystal War of 2012 where you had to save your buddy from an airbag assault that had you pined in the back of a Toyota Camery on St Swithens day.
You don't have to love stick welding but sometimes all you have is a 60 year old Craftsman lunchbox welder or a red tombstone so you do what you gotta do until you can afford something high-falutin' and fancy and the gas you need to run it!
Absolutely. "Run what ya brung" is our reality on many levels. My shop has slowly grown in equipment over the years, but I've had many projects built with very little.
If it goes over my head made of steel and I can't lift it by myself it WILL be stick welded. I might tack weld or root pass it MIG, but the only structural weld will be stick, Gas shielded MIG have been thermally shocked and are brittle. Tack something with a gas shielded MIG and another with 6011 and another with 7018 then flex them, they will break MIG, 6011, 7018 every time. Try to bend them back and forth and you won't have a MIG tack, you will have a grinding project.
I've heard that same side of it from a good Millwright friend - he does all his structural in Stick. I do my structural in TIG. Discussion always ensues. I know the benefits, but just like Brussel Sprouts, I just don't like it.
I love stick welding! Truly do. It reaches into tight spots easy. It's cheap.

Awesome idea! Some one once said, if you can't make it precise make it adjustable.
Like that you rolled the edges.
Yeah - it really finished it off.
Every part of this build 100% very nice, who new you are such an accomplished welder 😜👌

Are you saying "leave it stock"? I'm not sure I understand that word..... (grin)
Stick is my favorite
As a friend of mine once said, “A grinder and paint makes me the welder I ain’t”
Add a Watson link to the rear for the auto cross. See if you can find a torsen diff for the rear.
I have a video on the panhard, which will be fine. I also have a video on the Detroit TrueTrac install.

It's awesome!!
You should have embossed with your logo too :) Enabler me....
I had a small 2" plasma-cut logo I toyed with welding onto the cover, but it made the engine bay look too cluttered.

@@GregWellwood Can't do TIG on thick material fast although you don't get splatter burns and don't get dirty.
WHAT CHEST SHOCK ABSORBERS IN THE HOOD?
'98 Yukon hatch lift supports - they come in different lengths, these might be the longest. I got them from the wreckers.
