This is one of an African iconic leaders who are not scared of the colonisers of the African continent. He's brilliant, he can still remember all his cronies. "Long live Professor, long live" and God bless Africa and the future.

The source of inspiration that did and continues to stimulate the energy of the Colonizer is a spirit. And those same attempts at control continues; except that the spirit has drafted demons to assist in the effort. And, this time the African Skin which it now targets, though to no avail, is that skin in the Diaspora. For Africans on the Continent have persevered and is waking up as well. IDENTITY

This commenter has listened to and watched almost every address by Prof. Lumumba that is posted on TH-cam. And although the commenter finds some of the Professor’s utterances a bit troubling, he will continue to follow the trail because, more often than not, there is something worthwhile to take away. One of this commenter’s pet peeves with respect to PLO is his apparent inability to live by the idiom or aphorism: “GIVE CREDIT WHERE CREDIT IS DUE”. Accordingly, as a Rastafarian, this commenter wonders why PLO finds it so hard to recognize that His Imperial Majesty (HIM) Emperor Haile Selassie I was one of the foremost trailblazers for AFRICAN UNITY. As the Head of Ethiopia which was one of only two territories that had not been “colonized”, HIM was the inspiration and mentor to President Kwame Nkrumah, President Nelson Mandela, and other African leaders in their struggles for liberation (“independence”). And unlike PLO who seems to think that AFRICAN UNITY could be achieved merely through the delivery of mesmerizing speeches, HIM had never failed to “put his money where his mouth was” by convening conference after conference on the AFRICAN situation in Addis Ababa. HIM had also awarded hundreds or even thousands of scholarships to young Africans as their different countries readied themselves for self-governance. It was because of those and other contributions to the AFRICAN People that Nelson Mandela observed that “[he] was surprised how small the emperor appeared, but his dignity and confidence made him seem like the AFRICAN GIANT that he was.” Haile Selassie was not perfect but most Rastafarians will continue to hold the view that there was no other AFRICAN leader who has done more for the upliftment of the AFRICAN PEOPLE. This commenter herein challenges PLO to refute this notion or, failing which, to “GIVE CREDIT WHERE CREDIT IS DUE.” Meanwhile Rastafarians will continue to do just that by taking the fledgling Philosophy of RASTAFARI from its erstwhile genesis among formally uneducated ghetto dwellers in the city of Kingston, Jamaica to higher and higher heights. For, AFRICAN UNITY could only be achieved through the COLLECTIVE reawakening of the consciousness of the AFRICAN People. Thus, the only way in which such emancipation from mental slavery could truly be realized would be through a philosophical vehicle designed and developed for the articulation of the COLLECTIVE experiences, hopes, and aspirations of the AFRICAN People. And so, although Prof. Lumumba’s Christian conviction and beliefs might blind him to the true nature of the phenomenon called RASTAFARI, an educated (ENLIGHTENED) analysis of the Rastafarian Movement will clearly conclude that what the world is gradually witnessing is the development of a dialectical synthesis of the lives and teachings of HIM, The Right Honorable Marcus Mosiah Garvey, Kwame Nkrumah, Walter Rodney, Malcolm X, and other enlightened BLACK leaders who have participated in the ongoing struggle for the genuine LIBERATION and EQUALITY of the BLACK RACE. And so, it should come as no surprise, that irrespective of earlier attempts to ground RASTAFARI in the Solomonic lineage of HIM, or to otherwise deify the Emperor, the person most deserving of having such a movement named in his honor in none other than HIM.

Dear Professor Patrick Lumumba, how dare we speak of Pan-Africanism and our African continent when we have once again been colonized by China? Am I lying? When will we engineer and build our own cities, roads, water and wastewater works, etc etc? Over the last 50 years, what use has our education been to wake us up and innovate in an African manner?
I am from South Africa, our country is in disarray: politicians are fighting and vying for leadership positions, whilst half the economy lives in abject poverty, possessed with an LLB, Engineering Degree, etc. What have we designed and what can we call ours as a global innovation. This I infer on the whole of the African continent.
The population called the Youth and the generations who will see through the next 70-100 years, how have we inspired them and provided them with a moral fabric that is concretized on African philosophies and stories; African inspirations that create an implicit foundation of courage and a spirit to conquer.
What will the African Legacy be? Vision 2063, an amount of words that have no meaning nor inspiration to be an African eagle. All the best at the EFF Anniversary Lecture and may you move our nation, South Africa to step up and ahead!
