Suzume hits me more than Your Name. The fantasy aspect is so much more well done and every time the door opens you feel worried for the main character as they rush to close it. Much more intense and exciting to watch then Your Name, which is why I prefer Suzume. Even the romance aspect more funny and is well woven into the story! (girl falls in love with a door closing chair) Graphics are spectacular too, coupled with amazing RADWIMPS compositions. Great movie

This entire video made me start to think that the events of Your Name and Weathering With You resonated in the events of Suzume. For example, we know Tokyo was flooded by the ongoing torrential rain due to Hodoka and Hina's actions. However, during the events of Suzume, it is shown that the flood waters have now receded and it stopped raining. Perhaps in theory, Suzume's mission to find and close these doors that are causing unusual phenomena might be connected to the torrential rain. She locked one door and perhaps THAT ended the floods throughout Japan. Basically, she helped finish what Hodoka and Hina caused. And on a side note, theoretically Taki and Mitsuha were safe from harm's way while these things were happening.
I don’t think so, Tokyo is heavily flood from 2021 to 2024 according to Tenki No Ko. While Suzume timeline start in 2023, and Souta was study there at least from 2022.
The stoppage of rain can be attributed to a theory provided by taki's grandmother herself at the end of weathering with you. When Hodaka revisits her in her new apartment and apoligises to her that the continous rains were his fault, she explains to him that Tokyo used to be just a bay in early edo period and due to humans taking over the land the level of water fell down and eventually tokyo became a land mass what we know now and ever since the nature tried to acquire its original state by raining continously but the weather maiden's sacrifice is what kept the weather steady. Now that hodaka reverted the sacrifice of Hina, nature found a way to rebalance itslef and it rained in tokyo until it acquired its previous form and that might have stopped/reduced by the time suzume's story begins

Why would people be mad for Hadaka being "selfish" in Weathering with you? It's like the trolley problem but on a much larger scale, moral philosophy is complicated, there are no right or wrong answers in the trolley problem, Hadaka chose to not sacrifice Hina, which is a perfectly valid answer.
Or perhaps like Life is Strange 1: similar decision: either a natural disaster destroying the city, vs saving the protag's BFF (and maybe significant other)
You kinda forgot "The Garden of Words or Kotonoha no Niwa" since the main woman (Yukari Yukino) in this, is also the teacher in Mitsuha's class in Your Name. I liked Weathering with you since it really copied (was inspired in) certain aspects of Eureka Seven's ending episodes :D But I also hope to see something of Hodoka and Hina in Suzume.
In my opinion, susuzume seems the most removed from shinkai’s last 2 films seeing that there were no character cameos in Suzume as far as I can remember when I watched it and the events of the last 2 films had no effect on the movie. Though thematically Suzume is very similar to weathering with you and your name
I saw the movie your name as a kid and it scared me for some reason, I probably didn't even understand anything when I saw it because I could barely read at the time
i feel Weathering With You is the weakest one- despite being connected to Your Name with character cameos i guess cause i love weather and having Shinkai deal with it had me excited but i didnt care too much for the story/characters though i did like the ending choice as it was bold and i am a sucker for disasters one it is set entirely in Tokyo setting so no lovely rural landscapes animation is gorgeous as always though especially the weather scenes and cloud sequences Your Name had a good balance between the boy and girl mostly the girl Weathering had more focus on the boy and Suzume had more focus on the girl Your Name is still best one though
Man, I couldn't care less that the protagonist was selfish in wanting to save the woman he loved. I agree with him. The people in the city relocated. Sure the city sank into the ocean, but those are just buildings. She's obviously worth more than any infrastructure that was lost and if he was willing to do what he did to save her, then good for him. Heck, *SPOILER ALERT FOR LIFE IS STRANGE* the game Life is Strange had a very similar decision you needed to make. And that one was worse because it was a storm that hit the city all of a sudden, not just a rain, so there's less warning and people would actually die, and yes, I saved Chloe, lol.
well i played the game too saved Chloe but still disagree with the MC ,she had made her choice and was willing to go through with it knowing full well the cost and he still decided to go against her wish and save her

All 3 movies are great and wonderfully told. If i had to rate it, my 1st would be "Suzume", 2nd being "Your Name" and 3rd being "Weathering with You". The only thing I have with Shinkai's films is that they are becoming predictable now as all 3 movies do have too much similarities especially the plot. For example the main hero has a problem, 2nd hero gets sucked into it and is taken away and then main hero goes on a journey to get the 2nd hero back. And the endings do need to be more different as they are too similar as well. All 6 characters see each other at the end and then camera moves away to a scenic view. Otherwise, if we do ignore all of this and just focus on them as films, they are terrific in every aspect. For sure "Weathering with You" felt the weakest as I do wish they would have added like another 30 minutes to give us more character development of Hina and Hodaka. Hina and Hodaka was doing so well until it started getting closer to the ending. I wish Shinkai would have explore the Sky area more since the movie is shorter than the other two. "Your Name" has the best love story because it really connects us with the emotions of Mitsuha and Taki. Like we want them to actually meet and be with each other. "Suzume" has the best dramatic emotions that makes you put yourself in their shoes. With Suzume trying to get back Souta and realize she has to sacrifice him to stop the worm. And Souta actually wanting to live and is thankful that he met Suzume. I also love the cameo appearances but do wonder why Shinkai stopped it in "Suzume". Would have been fun to see Mitsuha and Taki with their kids. Then Hina and Hodaka on their wedding day or so. Otherwise, all 3 films are beautiful drawn and their music are lovely to listen as well. For sure "Suzume" has the best soundtrack out of the 3. And let's all keep in mind that all 3 films do not connect with each other. They are their own universe. I'm looking forward to Shinkai's next film.
