Frieren might not have non-stop action or major plot twist, but it sure has one of the most meaningful and life changing teachings for an anime. Some high profile aniTubers like Gigguk, have openly spoke about how Frieren changed their outlook on life and relationship.
So true. Yeah, good to know Gigguk appreciates Frieren too!
To Your Eternity too
If only Fern and Stark were better characters.
“How to explain Frieren”? The regrets of a granny elf who was dense af and flashback here and there. And hype.
I actually agree! 😂
Nah fam, requires you've expirenced things in life. Glad you're blessed enough to NOT get this show.
She's also a teen at the same time.
by Elf standards she is barely a young adult, almost a teen
This was one of the most well made video essays I've ever watch. Thank you.
Wow, thank you! 😁
Frieren legit became one of my favorite anime and characters of all time next to The Apothecary and Demon Slayer.
Nice, DS is cool in a whole other way 👍🏻 Heard so much about Apothecary. Gotta check it out soon!
Frieren is really like reading a fairy tale with so many wonderful morals to learn from 😊 Special mention, the ending. They kept it for the whole 1st season and they knew why they were doing it. Miley’s voice is just so beautiful and the animations they used for it was so magical that made you feel you were living the story somehow. Anyways. I loved this video essay. You deserve more views and I hope your channel grows exponentially in the times to come. Subscribed.
So true! Makes me wanna cry every time I watch it 😭 Milet is one of my new favs. Thanks for the support, grateful for u my friend! 🙏🏻
@@animeafflictionI hope you have a chance to buy milet's album that has the ending song, as well as the song that plays during the rebuilding of the city after the death of Aura, the song is called "bliss" and it is just as beautiful as the ending song. The album is "Anytime, Anywhere".
Thanks for the info! Yes, I love "Bliss" too! Very moving song. All added to my favorites on Spotify 😬
I adore Ferns satisfied face Friren is patting her head after finding out what spell she picks. It is such a precious moment.
I know right, so cute!
Frienre is gorgeus ! Thank you for keeping the fandom alive! Amazing content you really deserve more subs! and by the way +1subs
Thank you so much!
you hit on a lot of really deep stuff i've never heard anyone else talk about here, like people going out of thier way to do things or be things that are unnatural to them, for someone else.
Thanks Joe! I checked out some of your Otrillodyne videos. Those are some wicked sick toys u got there! If Lucasfilm needs some new droid SFX, I know who to refer them to...
Truly a beautiful anime that reminds you to value the time you have left since we won't live long like Frieren
100%. The last flashback of the heroes party at the end of ep 28 hit me so hard
What I love about shows like frieren that every one has their own impression and lessons they learn from it ,that is why I enjoy seeing what different people interpret from it and there are always interesting ways of interpreting a work
Good video by the way and an interesting take on freiren’s themes
Well said, thank you my friend!
This legit one of the better videos I’ve seen about Frieren (there’s a lot of them 😂) nice job man!! You got a new subscriber!! Your channel is gonna pop don’t worry, just keep doing what you’re doing
Edit: would you mind doing a cowboy bebop breakdown as well. I feel like a lot of people miss A LOT of the messages in that show
Thanks for your kind words n the sub, grateful for your support! 🙏🏻😁 I actually haven't watched Cowboy Beebop but I know I should. I'll check it out thanks 👍🏻
Incredible
Glad u enjoyed it! Really appreciate it, you're literally my first ever commenter 🥲
@@animeaffliction I liked your 86 videos too, but i just don't comment much
No worries, good to know :)
When your journey is moving forward BECAUSE of your attachment / need of your destination, that is exactly when you can't really grasp what "enjoying the journey" actually is. The true savouring and unfolding of unforeseen Potency within the journey takes place when there is Presence and thus, detachment from a certain goal.
Great insight!
I clicked, saw the 153 subscriber count and figured yet another fan creating an account just to ramble on about their favourite anime. I am so glad I watched, then watched your other videos, and now you have another subscriber. Your videos are thoughtful, and your presentation excellent. Please keep making these videos.
Thanks so much, really appreciate it! 😭 What are some of your fav anime that have really touched your heart?
What? only 24 subs? what kind of atrocities yt has made
Haha I just started posting seriously last month. But thanks for the support!
@@animeaffliction keep up the good work man, i just share your video to my friends too.
@@animeaffliction btw, one thing that i remember the most from this series is when Frieren says "The pursuit of magic itself is the greatest joy". As i'm an engineer myself, that words elevate my perspective towards the experiences i gain to find the solution for each problem that i encounter.
100%. The joy from that sense of achievement is one of a kind! Glad u are enjoying your work :)
i appreciate your video on this beatiful series, well put !!
Glad you enjoyed it! 😁
Great Video! It pictures perfectly what I love about Anime
Thanks, glad you like it!
Excellent work 💐💐💐💐
Thank you! Cheers!
I ignored this show for a year because of the cover art on Crunchyroll but this season is slow (I assumed it was some boring show, it isn't!). Decided to watch it and cried in the first episode for a character I didn't even know anything about dying. I felt such pain for Frieren because I've experienced the same in the past of "regret for not appreciating those around you." I had to rewatch the first season to really notice a ton of unbelievable examples of storytelling:
The time jumps get smaller and smaller as the show goes on because Frieren learns to live more in the moment instead of across decades
The beginning makes sense as to why we know nothing really of Himmel: it's the same amount Frieren knew at the time. We then watch Frieren learn more about Himmel and herself at the same time Fern and Stark (and us) learn about Frieren.
They use flashbacks in a way nobody else really has and each one I loved, especially with Flamme.
And just one more - how 80 years which meant nothing for demons or dwarves or Frieren was a humongous jump in advancement for the humans, allowing them a lot more progress to happen.
Ah didn't notice the time jumps getting smaller! That's true eh. The music just made the anime hit harder too
@@animeaffliction Evan Call did an amazing job. Everything about this series pushed it to #1 for me: music, beautiful color palette and animation, voice acting in both Japanese and English dubs, and the intensely tightly written writing. To make me enjoy an entire episode where half of it is just Frieren walking around a town...it takes some serious writing.
P.S. the time skip thing I didn't notice the first time, only after a rewatch so it's fair you didn't notice. Another little meta clue about Frieren getting more in line with the "now" instead of the "meh I'll sleep in and get to it in one or fifty years."
Damn what a video man, beautiful analysis of this beautiful anime
Thanks for your kind words! 🙏🏻
I enjoyed this but... it doesn't match the title at all. Did it get changed at some point to get more clicks?
Ah sorry for the confusion my friend. The idea is that some anime fans don't get what Frieren is really about. Maybe they expected more action and a faster pace like typical fantasy anime. So my video is trying to explain how I understand the anime. Hope that makes sense?
@@animeaffliction I understand. This was a deeply heartfelt reflection on the very human and universal themes and ideas conveyed through the story. However, as a video essay, it feels more intended for an audience who've already seen/read Frieren and appreciate your exploration of what they're feeling and why. It seems more like something that would be called _"What Makes Frieren Special"_ or _"Why Frieren Made You Feel the Way You Did"._
When you initially began writing/making this video, I don't believe your original thesis was was "how to pitch Frieren to shounen bros". And if I had watched this without knowing the title, I _never_ would have guessed it was called _"How to Explain Frieren to Your Clueless Shounen Pals"._ Furthermore, I doubt this would actually work as a means of convincing a disinterested shounen bro - and I don't mean that as a failing, just that it simply doesn't seem to be its purpose. It would be like if I had a friend who had no interest in the poetry of William Blake, and I tried to convince them of its merit with someone's essay discussing Blake's themes of love, loss, longing, regret and innocence vs experience. If they weren't interested in the poetry to begin with, why on earth would I expect them to become interested through someone's in-depth analysis of poems they've neither read nor intend to read?
Haha you're right about my original thesis. Just to share with you, the aim of my channel is to "change your life with anime that touches your heart" and I do that by drawing practical lessons from anime to help fans grow personally and thrive relationally. So all my videos are intended to be in line with that goal, whether implicitly or explicitly.
I guess your suggested titles would've worked fine as well! I'm still very new to this youtube thing so I was going for something that I thought would get more clicks. Having said that, the way I imagined it was a little different from your poetry analogy. The intention was for Frieren fans to watch my video and then use it to explain Frieren to someone (shounen bro or otherwise) who had _also_ watched Frieren but didn't quite get what it was about.
So yes, you are right in that my video was intended for folks who had already watched Frieren, but specifically to help those who didn't quite understand its appeal even after watching it. And then you could tell them: "Ah, it's actually about relationships!" Thanks for putting so much thought into it though. Appreciate it!
I think, perhaps, the title was taken too literally?
Haha maybe! 😅
Awesome video 👍. I couldn't find it but what song did you use at 7:55?
Thanks very much! 🙏🏻 I should really sign up for an affiliate thingy with Envato soon, quite a few inquiries about the music 😂 Here it is: elements.envato.com/irish-legacy-YSZSZEG Enjoy!
Thank you for sharing 😊
Thanks for watching!
Great video! What’s the name of the song that plays in the first few minutes??
Thanks friend! You can find the track here: elements.envato.com/beautiful-celtic-inspiration-2PHAWRJ
Just tell the degenerates that it's a harem, fantasy almost isekai anime with a cute, yandere elf and that'll get them starting to watch it. Whatever it takes to get them in the door! :D
Haha come for the waifu, stay for the wistful? That might work! 😂
It’s like Tolkien… except with less plot…. or more “plot” depending on how you look at it.
Their music have similar vibes for sure!
Portuguese has a word that has no translation to another language in the world beyond some words with similar meaning and its "Saudade" it is a melancholic longing or yearning so to speak and it describes the show perfectly. Frieren has saudades of Himmel.
So cool, the anime really transcends all language boundaries!
For the rest of the weebs or least more Japan-leaning audience, you might know the word as the title of a 2000 Porno Graffiti song, which was one of the ending songs for ReLIFE.
@@davidkim6673 Wow i had no idea the word was populary know outside the portuguese comunity to the point of being the title of a foreing song.
Great video for a masterful anime. You clearly deserve more clicks and subs! Stay tuned!💪🫶
Thank you so much! 😁
Very good video🙂
Thank you so much!
people who don't like Frieren are people who don't like Lord of the rings... (or probably never watched any complex word building and story in their whole life and never even bother ingesting one their whole lives)
Maybe! Or perhaps it just wasn't the kind of anime they were looking for 🤷🏻
Lie Down / Try Not To Cry / Cry A Lot
What music do you use here?
I use Envato for all my stock videos and music. Went for a more Celtic vibe to match the anime
👍
Amazing video, 36 subs is criminal!!! Algorithm do better!
Grateful for u my friend! 🙏🏻
