Oh, it's great point, somehow this idea didn't come to my mind in the past. Agree with you - being underweight is as bad as being overweight! It's much less common problem these days, but it's definitely a problem!
It's actually 20 to 25 bmi for men that is considered healthy and 18.7 to 23.8 for women. 30 is obese for men, 28.6 for women. Of course it's not accurate for everyone tho, but studies have shown that the majority of people that stay within these ranges who don't abuse drugs or alcohol or have mental health issues tend to live longer.
Thank you, you are the first person to bring it! I double checked it and I see it's really not 20-25. There might be some updates since I recorded this video. But, according to CDC and WHO, the "normal" range is 18.9-24.9. And I see that the ranges are different for different countries, but I don't see the difference between men and women. Where have you seen that range difference between men and women?
Mark, totally agree, this is the problem. Another video on our channel called "History of Dietary Changes" might be interesting to you. Briefly, 71% of foods we consume today were not available 12,000 years ago. It's a huge change in our diet.
BMI is more accurate when someone is morbidity obese. Less accurate at the overweight and lower obese range. Doesn’t take into account bone density and lean body mass. For example I have a BMI of 29, however I have less than average body fat. BMI also overestimates the health of individuals who are in the “healthy” weight range. Such as people who are “skinny fat”. This includes the elderly but also individuals who have low lean body mass and excess fat.
Samantha, it's a good question. A couple things to consider - 1. reduce the overall fat % in your body, so basically every part of your body, including arms, will have less fat, 2. if you want to get rid of your arm fat specifically, consider doing some exercises that require frequent arm moves. Basically, the body stores fat on its least movable parts, the belly is a good example. Lifting weights help to build muscles, but only marginally to move fat from the arms. I hope it helps!
Gaurang, yes, please :) Think of body fat as an endocrine organ that can alter your hormonal balance throughout the body. So, the larger your fat deposits, the greater the hormonal changes you experience.
Thank you! We have some really large members at our church. I used to feel guilty less often but since turning to Christ and church groups I have started to feel guilty more often. When driving away from Jesus I feel more confident but when returning to church, the guilt comes back. At church we bring it up sometimes and our group agreed that part of faith is to celebrate our guilt, because it keeps us clean and beneath Him. Encouraging guilt is be part of our Christian culture that we inherited. I would not be ashamed of guilt as it is part of being a good Christian, and those that are not guilty might not be forgiven and thus might not reach heaven. I myself often have guilty feelings of not enough faith in God but I use this guilt to ask for forgiveness so I can be saved. I don’t think we should try to overcome our guilt but recognise it as part of being a Christian, even if it is difficult to live with. Even if we feel worse with this guilt, it I better to have it and know that we are true Christians. It brings us down, but it brings us together. Together, and down. Only then we can be saved. Being fat, well I’m bot fat to myself but if you choose to identify 558 pounds as fat, then that is your choice, but being like this does make me feel guilt but from my faith I think guilt is not an unholy feeling even if it means pain. It is like turning your cheek when struck as we are taught and deeply a part of our faith of tolerance our sadness and sickliness - including being large. Faith also why I love America 🇺🇸 and we are unique here, and an exception in the world that can spread faith to others to help them to tolerate guilt of sin, guilt of leaning away, and guilt of being large.
You feel more guilty when you go to your church because they are guilt tripping you with what they tell you. They do this to control you. It's control tactics 101 and it's seen as abusive. Jesus wasn't about guilt,he was about love. Search for a different church.
I'll tell you how BMI is dookie water. I weigh 210 lbs and am 5'10, Im pretty muscular and fairly lean. I calculated it to be 30.1. If you look at me, I am very obviously not fat, so in my opinion I would completely disregard BMI. Appearance is definitely the simplest way.
Oh, yeah, BMI is suitable for the average person, not muscular people or bodybuilders. Looking good is important, but have you ever considered a Dexa scan to see your body fat percentage?
Toga, it's quite typical to eat when we are stressed. As an idea, think about replacing eating with some exercise or just walking, it has a similar effect, but definitely much healthier option

It's a complicated situation, so I would rely on extensive testing and professional medical advice based on that testing. Though, in general, I would like to say that, based on my research, I see that excessive fat changes the hormonal balance in the body and that potentially impacts bone mass growth, muscle growth and many other vital functions in the body.

@Old Guy trust me it's not the dying part I'm scared of, it's the nasty side effects that will be suffered while living.... whether by curse or blessing I read a book about smoking and vaping (pretty much made me quit vaping for good), while it won't eliminate The habit completely, still too much joy from having cigars in a social setting at least every once in awhile.. yeah if ooking to quit I'd definitely get a book or at least research about the chemicals and their effects Edit.. and of course the unnecessary harm to nature, which I value way way more than myself and third hand exposure to smoke is definitely a thing that many over people overlook (accumulation and permanence of the chemicals on surfaces and the environment) Edit 2: altho being obese is Super Not Great either, maybe even worse (not religious any longer but knew a priest that was in his 70s or maybe 60s, maybe he smoked too idk, suddenly passed even tho he seemed fine, apparently I was told he use to be very obese. And I've had a supervisor who had some extra who went thru bad fits of seizures, oh darn actually he definitely smoked a lot too, bad case study, but he still had a lot of mental facilities but his health was definitely poor... And have known a guy who said his knees always ache a ton, doesn't seem fun, older and obese. Joints break down no matter what. You don't see 70+ year old obese people for a reason, yet some 90+ year olds can fly by with smoking... Idk maybe some people are genetically more resilient to smoking, just a thought
@@Dman9fp Well-well said! From my experience of fighting bad habits, it's less about restraining myself from something like alcohol or computer games, it's more about being excited about something, like a big idea or dream. And I know if I drink in the evening or play computer games at night, I will take away time from that exciting idea/ dream I want to pursue. So, naturally I stay away from those bad habits...
Though I didn't have the experience to be heavily overweight, I am sure it's super tough. And I am sure you can get back to your normal weight, you can do it!
Obviously, being a healthy weight and eating a balanced diets that includes Saturated fats is the ideal aim Saturated fat does not clog the arteries, this is a 1970's belief that has now been proven medically incorrect! It was pushed by the USA and the UK governments in the 70's without any medical research; and based on thoughts on that era and NOT medical facts! Moreover, eating saturated Fat of a natural sort would almost certainly not make you gain any weight and will not clog your arteries! Sugar is far more a risk to your health! Despite popular belief among the public, the conceptual model of dietary saturated fat clogging a pipe is just plain wrong. A landmark systematic review and meta-analysis of observational studies showed no association between saturated fat consumption and (1) all-cause mortality, (2) coronary heart disease (CHD), (3) CHD mortality, (4) ischaemic stroke or (5) type 2 diabetes in healthy adults. Similarly in the secondary prevention of CHD there is no benefit from reduced fat, including saturated fat, on myocardial infarction, cardiovascular or all-cause mortality. It is instructive to note that in an angiographic study of postmenopausal women with CHD, greater intake of saturated fat was associated with less progression of atherosclerosis whereas carbohydrate and polyunsaturated fat intake were associated with greater progression
Great summary, totally agree with you - fats are good and "lipid hypothesis" was incorrect! One comment on fats - for the last 200 years we've seen a huge shift from polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFA) and monounsaturated fatty acids (MUFA) to saturated fatty acids (SFA). And, there are multiple reports that this shift from PUFA/MUFA to SFA has negative impact on our health. Basically, 95% of the cattle we raise today can be classified to obese, and it's not good. Here is a video on the dietary changes for the last 10,000 years, it's very telling :( th-cam.com/video/agBJ3dAekQg/w-d-xo.html
I still believe that it's a choice of each person! Though it might be more difficult to stay healthy with the culture of overeating, sitting lifestyle and so on. And it's fixable and awareness is the key!

There is Morbally Obese.
Morbally = Morally + Morbidly?
Feeling afraid I am 115kg I am just 20! years
I hope this video doesn't scare you, but will be more like a call for actions. Stay strong and control your health!
Obesity is very common problem and it affects mostly people after age of 30's. Past 4 years I was very obese and my body mass index shows that I belonged to obese category. Then I start taken trim support capsules from planet ayurveda and also followed their weight loss diet plan. after five months my weight was reduced to 10 kg and my body mass index was changed to 27 instead of 30.
That's great, congratulations, Rishabh!

It's reversible, Terrence! A bit of effort and time :)

What happens if your 300 pounds and smoke cigarettes??
Usually bad things happen...
@Old Guy trust me it's not the dying part I'm scared of, it's the nasty side effects that will be suffered while living.... whether by curse or blessing I read a book about smoking and vaping (pretty much made me quit vaping for good), while it won't eliminate The habit completely, still too much joy from having cigars in a social setting at least every once in awhile.. yeah if ooking to quit I'd definitely get a book or at least research about the chemicals and their effects
Edit.. and of course the unnecessary harm to nature, which I value way way more than myself and third hand exposure to smoke is definitely a thing that many over people overlook (accumulation and permanence of the chemicals on surfaces and the environment)
Edit 2: altho being obese is Super Not Great either, maybe even worse (not religious any longer but knew a priest that was in his 70s or maybe 60s, maybe he smoked too idk, suddenly passed even tho he seemed fine, apparently I was told he use to be very obese.
I'll be back lol
“Put the cookie down, now!” :)
Being obese is healthy
And why is that?
@@PracticalHealthNow It's not. It's just trolling the fat acceptance people. Thank you for your truthful video!
I’m 340 19 years old and I’m finna turn my life around y’all don’t understand being fat is hard
Though I didn't have the experience to be heavily overweight, I am sure it's super tough. And I am sure you can get back to your normal weight, you can do it!
How the hell are you 34 019 years old?
You can do it! Good luck with your journey!
Obviously, being a healthy weight and eating a balanced diets that includes Saturated fats is the ideal aim
Saturated fat does not clog the arteries, this is a 1970's belief that has now been proven medically incorrect!
A landmark systematic review and meta-analysis of observational studies showed no association between saturated fat consumption and
(1) all-cause mortality, (2) coronary heart disease (CHD), (3) CHD mortality, (4) ischaemic stroke or (5) type 2 diabetes in healthy adults.
Well if your born here...than yes 10/5 you will be over weight. Like my neighbor.
I still believe that it's a choice of each person! Though it might be more difficult to stay healthy with the culture of overeating, sitting lifestyle and so on. And it's fixable and awareness is the key!
@@PracticalHealthNow that's makes more sense.
You are promoting fear
Fear and death :) On a serious note, it was not the intention. Excessive fat brings a lot of health problems and everyone should be well aware of that
He's more likes promoting self awareness.
I purposefully searched the disadvantages of being overweight in order to keep motivating myself to stick to my diet plan. Fear can be a good thing too if you balance it with hope.
A very educational video on the health dangers of obesity! Thank you for this simple educational video!
Thank you, glad to hear that it's helpful!
