Shaking. Yes! Many people on the autism spectrum naturally shake or flap their hands, etc. because they are overly aware of their bodies in some ways. I hate that it has been stigmatized. People need to feel free to do this any time they want, just like animals feel free. Just think how different the world would be if we were all more accepting of ourselves and others.

I'm new to somatic anything, found this video by chance, did the butterfly hug and immediately started crying - making me think there is value and truth to this approach.

Butterfly was amazing. Not exaggerating. Just learned about this. I'm a water aerobics instructor. Been training on land since I could walk. Live learning new.things and using them in myself. Had 17 yrs of brain damage from neglect abuse( but not physically strangely enough). I'm putting my life back together at 55. I look great, no meds nothing. Now it's time to stay grounded ( somatic) and grow a career so I can live financially. Thanks for this special modality. 🙏

I totally understand. Good for you. I’m in the same boat. We should all row together instead of hitting each other with the oars. We’ll get nowhere and end up more frustrated and hurt. I’m going to try this. My therapist told me that when someone hurts or frustrates me, I should place my hand on my heart, close my eyes and breathe deeply, and ask myself how I can provide for myself with that person may have just taken away. We can’t depend on others to make us whole. This world is full of people enjoying tearing each other apart.

OMG, I am 65 years old, and this has been the story of my life. Procrastination, starting projects I never finish etc etc , all that you said, and now I know why. Very stressful traumatic childhood. Not abusive, but being a sensitive empath that grew up with 2 parents that CONSTANTLY fought, argued, or simply never spoke to each other. This all makes perfect sense. Thank you so much Workout Witch . God bless you for helping so many people.

This is great! I think actually feeling the feeling while doing these is a great way to make them even more powerful. For the first exercise as an example, closing your eyes and imagining how it would feel to have all the love in the world surround you (while doing the movement.)

I went to s naturopathic doctor here in Oaxaca, Mexico and she’s trying to get
my emotions released. It was not easy for me- I can groan, but I could not cry out or scream. Just not in my filter. But after my session with her last week, I had a new sense of awareness, not only my emotions being freer, but my connection of my spirit and soul ( emotions) being more open to each other. Does that make sense? Like I can cry and feel more easily now.

If you start crying how long do you cry? I cry at everything and since I rationalized everything and didn't allow myself to feel anything so crying in the wrong moment feels weird and wrong, not to mention that I have been crying for 53 years and I'm really tired of using tears to express every emotion.

I used to always bounce my legs when sitting in a chair when i was a kid. And I mean ALWAYS, to the point my dad would yell at me to stop or strangers would ask me if I was nervous. I never felt nervous. Maybe, bored?? I do it some times as an adult.

I keep seeing people who say that they immediately started crying and felt a release from the butterfly hug, im usually pretty in tune but I felt nothing. I’m wondering if Im doing it wrong and will also try a visualization technique next time. But I’m also just curious as to why some people are having such an immediate reaction, does anyone know the reason to this? Like, what’s the purpose behind the action? Maybe it’s the hand chakra’s over heart chakra effect?

I am sorry but seeing a woman in exercise gear talking about somatic experiencing just seems mighty off. Get into something comfortable!!! It looks like you are about to do some vigorous workout.

I’m sorry you feel that way . One of the tenants of mindfulness is nonjudgment. I honor that in myself and with those that I have the opportunity to share these practices with.
