Thank u sir for your explanation Sir surveyor has asked that u have a vsl one point to your stbd bow and u can c both her side light and mast head light is it head on or crossing
Good Day sir, 2 vessels are on head on situation and one vessel has shallow patch on Starboard side. What will be the best action by the vessel which has shallow patch on her stbd side. Reducing speed will only increase the tcpa so should this vessel alter her course to wide port ?? thanks
What if a tow vessel is approaching to 000(T) with towing operation and another vessel is coming at 190/200(T),which vessel here is the give way vessel?
Good day Captain, Sir, situation where the CPA is 0.7 miles. Here the ROC doesn't exist and it is apparent to both vessels. Since no ROC both vessels are free to take any action. So if the vessel A/c to port just to follow Master's order or Company policy is there any breach here. I repeat sir it is apparent to both ROC doesn't exist. So is alteration to port justifiable?
1 When Master or company says CPA 1 mile, any CPA less than that is to be treated as ROC exists. 2 You alter course either as per passage plan requirements or as per Rules, why else will you alter course.
Respected Captain small doubt as you said and or both sidelight is used because sometime we are beyond the visibility of side light and can see only masthead light so do we need to wait till we see sidelight to consider a situation a head on situation
Good day sir, sir if a vessel has a course 000 and another vessel having a course of 180 ,,but the cpa is let say 1 nm',,in that case will it be a head-on situation beacause as per rule , head-on is recipocal or nearly recipocal but didnt say anything about cpa
Sir thank you for the clarification on how much margin on how should we call it a head-on situation. It was also a very good justification. I also read in ROR by Cockroft, as your student said about that 6° and I thought about it correctly the whole time until now.
in the last situation when vessel a alter to stbd and b alter port and develops a close quarters situation. isnt rule 2 b gives vessel a to go against the rule and alter to port to avoid risk of collision rather than altering more to stbd.
yes sir i have gone through it again . but for this particular situation if by altering more stbd appox making 90° and still both the vessels collided, should not the vessel a assess the situation & alter her co. to port to avoid collision when b is just altering to port.
You should continue altering to starboard and if necessary, in extreme cases, you may alter by 180 degrees or even take a full turn and clear her. In this case the rules do not allow you to alter to port. (Also remember if ship b realises her mistake and alters to starboard then what will happen). Rule 8 says positive action and altering to port after initial alteration to starboard is not positive action. Keeping all this in mind, continue altering to starboard and clear vessel b.
sir,if we are out of visibility range of side lights i.e 3" we will only see the mast head light .and in case of overtaking also we see the strernlight only.how will we determine then if it is overtaking or head on?
Kindly note that as per rules visibility of side lights is a minimum of 3 NM. Practically we use the same power bulb in all the navigation lights and hence the lights are usually visible at same range, may have to give some allowance for the color. Also use all available means viz. Radar etc. to get more clarity about the situation.
Dear sir,I am very grateful to you for your video. But don't understand at last how can find out tcpa without oAw triangla.if u can clarify the techniques it can helpful fr me.
Well explained sir, it is easy to understand. Do more videos like this and I hope that will be helpful for the upcoming navigators.
Thank you sir ♥️🙏🏽
Good explaination sir, helped alot in understanding many rules.
Thank u sir for your explanation

Already discussed.

No. There r other conditions like nearly ahead, mast lights in one line etc.

What does the rule say about where the vessel is?
Nice video sir
Easily understanding
Sir,
If a CBD vessel is on head on.. Then we will take rule 14 into account.. As CBD is also a Pdv vessel.. Pls clarify?
i think rule 18 D(1) apply here

Very well explained.
Goood morning sir can u please explain what is meant by cardinal marks are used in conjunction with the compass
Cardinal marks indicate directions as per the compass and hence used in conjunction with compass
Dear sir,I am very grateful to you for your video. But don't understand at last how can find out tcpa without oAw triangla.if u can clarify the techniques it can helpful fr me.
CPA and TCPA is worked out on relative approach i.e. OA line only.
60min×8Nm/30Nm=16min(given example, on the basis of relative motion line-OA)
Sir can u explain what is in line or in line by most of the rules alter course to starboard
Which rules r u referring to. Please be specific.
If on 5 degree we are seeing both side and masthead in a line what will be considere
u r saying 3 deg but some surveyors wants to listen 5 deg ( 2 deg for yaw)....cant understand who is right...its totally based on personal view
I am explaining the rules.
But it’s not mentioned anywhere in the rules about 2 deg or 5 deg
It’s ur perception
Others are failing in orals because they said 2 deg
Refer Annex 1 9a (i) and (ii).
Sir also what is aspect??
Check out my video on aspect
