Hi Sir, I am also an AE Cadet from Philippines so happy to see your videos. We had an DCE-Program under Capt. Sriram last 2017. Instructors from AE are so good that they make complex understanding to a simple one. 💯💯
Kindly explain action in RV to be taken by a power driven vsl with inoperational radar on hearing a fog signal which is apparently coming from astern.?
Hello sir! I really appreciate your efforts for putting up videos on TH-cam regarding topics as such. It helps a lot of people who do not have access to classes. My question is what practically should be our action if we hear a fog signal abaft the beam (radar inoperational). Is it safe to maintain course and speed, relying on the fact that the target vessel would take action to keep clear. Or should we actually make a move. I read in a book written by a renowned author, that in such a case, own vessel should alter course away from the fog signal in such a manner, so as to bring the fog signal of the target vessel on the opposite quarter. Kindly comment. Also if there is a situation where in restricted visibility, I have a vessel on my port bow crossing from port to stbd, and at the same time I can hear a fog signal coming from my stbd quarter, can i alter course to port in accordance with Rule 2 (b)?
Firstly rules are only about one on one and do not discuss dealing with two situations at same time. Regarding fog signal abaft beam already discussed in video rule19. Please check.
@@thecaptainschannel7206 Also could you please clarify.. is there any condition in RV where a vessel can alter course to port for a vessel forward of the beam? (Not including the case where the vessel is overtat another)
Hello Sir. In RV, Own Vessel has one vessel abaft the beam on port side and similarly one on the starboard side abaft the beam. ROC exist with both the vessel. Altering Port or Starboard is prohibited under rule 19 d) ii). What should the Own Vessel do?
Sir what would be the action when two vessels are coming up dead ahead of each other and both do not have an operational radar.......as per the rule they are suppose to reduce speed or take all way off (when they hear fog signal of each other...that is they are max 2 nm away).....but that wouldn't be enough in this case.
Sir as u finished up the ror from 1 to 19 was fabulous. and a humble request that plz discuss some ror situation that are frequently asked in mmd thank u sir
Sir how we will determine if we are in or near an area of RV. I mean is there any range in NM? I mean the moment when we shall start considering to apply Rule 19??
You are hearing fog signal abaft the beam and your radar is in operational.....even in thick fog he is coming at you abaft the beam....and you could hear the sound signal more clearly What is your action to avoid this situation other than maintaining course...
You can do so but do remember spirit of rule 13 applies during overtaking in RV as per the court judgement. Please also watch out which side the other vessel is altering.
Sorry to disturb you sir Sir what if i have a vsl on my stbd quarter and there is one vsl on my port bow which is crossing from port to stbd and roc exist and both the vsls are not taking action and have the same tcpa what will be the action
Rules do not talk of multiple situations. Since purpose is to navigate safely, tap the possibility of reducing speed and even stopping completely till the situation is overcome.
Sir thank you very much As u said sir that we can reduce speed or go stern Sir in this case for the vsl which is on my stbd quarter if i reduced speed only tcpa will decreased but roc still exist .
Thank u very much sir But what she doesn't take action what will be our action Sir one more question In rv I have one vsl on my stbd quarter and one vsl on my port quarter roc exist and tcpa of both the vsl is same and they are not taking action what will be our action
I really appreciate sir.I've covered ror from 1-19 with a good understanding.Thank you so much

Many thanks Sir, for all the efforts put by you for our understanding.
sir...i respect, admire and appreciate the kind of wisdom you have...really great
Thanks Vijay

Thnx captain
Thank you sir for such nice explanation...

What should the Own Vessel do?
Have you got the answer?
Sir, In RV how can we know about a buoy (like NSEW cardinal marks) other than seeing at chart. Do they have any sound signal or anything else as such?
Sir what would be the action when two vessels are coming up dead ahead of each other and both do not have an operational radar.......as per the rule they are suppose to reduce speed or take all way off (when they hear fog signal of each other...that is they are max 2 nm away).....but that wouldn't be enough in this case.
If not enough they are not at safe speed. Please refer explanation of safe speed.
Sir please add some for situation .will be very helpful to us thank u Sir
Your request not clear. Please give more details what you want me to add.
Sir as u finished up the ror from 1 to 19 was fabulous. and a humble request that plz discuss some ror situation that are frequently asked in mmd thank u sir
Coming up in some time.
Sir how we will determine if we are in or near an area of RV. I mean is there any range in NM? I mean the moment when we shall start considering to apply Rule 19??
thnku sir , can u make one video on manoeuvring characteristics
Will do so
You are hearing fog signal abaft the beam and your radar is in operational.....even in thick fog he is coming at you abaft the beam....and you could hear the sound signal more clearly
What is your action to avoid this situation other than maintaining course...
Watch the video on rule 19 already discussed.
Sir, can you please teach us some tidal calculations too
Sir.. In Rv if vsls have been detected on radar.. And if our action is to reduce speed.. Then we will do it as per 8e or 19e?
Both
Thank u sir
Sir "if a vessel dead astern of me & she is overtaking me, I can alter either way " is that statement correct? Pls clarify.
You can do so but do remember spirit of rule 13 applies during overtaking in RV as per the court judgement. Please also watch out which side the other vessel is altering.

Sir in this case for the vsl which is on my stbd quarter if i reduced speed only tcpa will decreased but roc still exist .
Roc is based on course n speed. Moreover she is faster n overtaking hence her responsibility to keep clear
Thank u very much sir
But what she doesn't take action what will be our action
Sir one more question
In rv I have one vsl on my stbd quarter and one vsl on my port quarter roc exist and tcpa of both the vsl is same and they are not taking action what will be our action
