Very well explained Capt. Bhatia. Uploading a Video on Interaction between ships, (+ve / -ve) areas, Bank cushion effect, etc, will be really great by you and the way you explain in simple terms. Thank you very much as your channel is a learning/refreshing treat.
Please answer sir, this situation....my vessel is PD vessel in narrow channel , RAM right ahead what will be my action and as per which rule...will rule 18 apply?
Hello Sir, i have a question. Since you talked about vhf communication, a surveyor asked a question regarding this in mmd orals: In a head on situation, if the head on vessel calls you on vhf and tells you to pass stbd to stbd instead of port to port, what will you do? there are no obstruction you see because of which the other vessel cannot alter to stbd and pass port to port. and i further extend this question to the possibility of disagreement between own vessel and other vessel in any other scenario where risk of collision exists, what should the oow do in that case? should the OOW not respond to his comm. and follow colregs or respond to him that you disagree as per the colregs which may lead to further argument and wastage of time? and then call master if the other vessel is adamant about it and not willing to agree on a mutual action?
Rule 18 says except where rule 9, 10 n 13 otherwise require. So if there r no contrary requirements then they apply if there r contrary requirements then these requirements apply
ideally a passage should always be safe. There are instances when a passage does not meet the ukc requirements and hence deviates from the requirements hence passage.
@@thecaptainschannel7206 sir as I tried to give the answer in orals but the surveyor tried to confuse me between the two vessels that who is the give way so can you please tell exact answer what I can say to surveyor for giveway vessel in overtaking in narrow channel. As I am not able to find the exact answer.
In my videos I have clearly mentioned who is give way in what cases. Please listen to them carefully. Also I have explained rules as they are and not to satisfy any specific surveyor.
aditya rai if you are in a narrow channel and you give the sound signal to overtake another vessel in the channel and they sound one long one short one long and one short as to confirm that you are allowed to overtake you will become the give way vessel under rule 13 as you are overtaking
Sir love from Pakistan, Q: We give 2 prolonged followed by 2 short blasts, Other v/l is not reply, may be she can't listen first, or due to some other reason. Then can we repeat 2 prolonged followed by 2 short blast.
Sir we are a PD vsl in narrow channel....and we are intending to overtake a PD vsl.....there is more than enough sea room on are stbd side....so do i need to give the sound signal as per rule 9e or i can directly overtake the vessel since there is sea room and there is no need for her to take action.
@@thecaptainschannel7206 why we need to sound sound signal as rule says only sound signal when vessel to be overtaken has to take action to permit safe passing but here their is already sufficient searoom please explain sir??
1) Sailing vessel should not impede the passage of PDV in TSS 2) Do not impede look at 8f. It's before risk of collision. 3) When risk of collision exist rule 7, the other rules still apply 8fiii. But the sailing vessel still must not impede 8fii 4) BUT!! Crossing is between 2 PDV. As such rule 18 apply. PDV keep out if the way of sailing. Can turn port or stb as you wish.
when we are in a narrow channel we dont have enough sea room for alteration so it means we are in a safe passage there. So rule 8 will apply for us. we take action only by 8fiii. when we are in a narrow channel rule 18 wont apply only 8fiii will apply so reduce speed and let the other vessel pass.
The Captain's Channel Sir being specific if m following narrow channel then the vessel on MY port side crossing like ‘nuc ,ram, cbd ‘ only to this rule 18 applies right not to fishing or sailing or vsl less than 20 or any pdv vessel
Only to NUC and RAM have right of way . All others need to follow rule 8f 1 i.e. should not impede your passage. For rule 8f explanation, refer to relevant video.
Sir but it is said that keep as near to the stbd side...so we will overtake from port side right??? In case of equal sea room to avoid head on situations??
Sir in Rule 34-c It's stated that when in sight of another in a narrow channel or fairway we can give sound signal to over take , then in RV what signal to give?
There are no signals specified in narrow channel and overtaking. Rule 36 C is in sight of one another. In RV n narrow channel master should be on the bridge and if he thinks prudent he may use vhf using ais to check name of vessel. However in both cases the responsibility to keep clear is of the overtaking vessel.
thank you sir for uploading these videos.hoping more on different topics...as mentioned in your video we can use sound signal of rule 34 in restricted visibility.isnt rule 34 in applicable for good visibility...

Very well sir..thank you..I'm from srilanka
Doinng very well sir,i m following ur channel ,thq for sharing ur knowledge .God bless u
Looking for videos on ROR situations
Sir. Very well explanation. Except the vessel being overtaken, if he does not agree should sound 5 short blast . . . . .
5 short blasts means vsl in doubt asking other vsls intentions, why u r saying it is no ?
If there is sufficient sea room for overtaking in narrow channel, still need to use sound signals?

na bhai take action by 8f 😄
Sir what is the difference between narrow channel and fairway?
Narrow channel can be anywhere and fairway will normally lead to port. Fairways need not be narrow.
Thankyou very much sir
Sir, is there any difference between fairway buoy and safe water mark buoy?

Do not reply on vhf and if required call master
Follow rules and alter very wide to starboard
Thank you sir!
Ok
But C can also hear the sound signal then how we will come to know that B have heard or C has heard ?
sir when not to keep the vessel to stbd side in narrow channel?
Sir,, what is the action for mob in narrow channel??
sir we r PDV in narrorw channel a CBD crossing from stbd , roc exist.
In this case r we stby vessel as per 9 d
Sir suppose overtaken vessel not want to allow overtaking from said side. Then what signal to be sounded
Check videos already replied. Follow rules.
Sir a question,Rrule 34 is when in sight of one another so how we can use fog signals in conjunction ?
Those are manoeuvring and warning signals.
Rule 35 tells you about Fog Signals
Sir does rule no -18 applied in Narrow channel and TSS ?
Rule 18 says except where rule 9, 10 n 13 otherwise require. So if there r no contrary requirements then they apply if there r contrary requirements then these requirements apply
Thank you very much for clarifying this sir and it's been doubtful for a while.
Sir can be overtake if there is sufficient sea room in nrrow chennal withòght giving signal ??
What is a narrow channel?
Good day sir,
If overtaking in NC, IN restricted VISIBILITY , do we need to give sound signal as per 34 c... For overtaking??
Please read the first line of rule 34 n 34c carefully
Sir, what is the difference between "passage" and "safe passage "
