      @Uncommon Knowledge UK with Unknown Nordic Cool. I will probably end up binge watching his videos.
      I also have a ton of playlists that get created whenever I get a new piece of gear. It's become a mess that I should really organize sometime. Have a good one...

    I don’t even have an SP-808, but had to keep watching for a while.

    • @theMIDImaniac

      Hahaha, that’s cool.
      The beginning has to be like this. Eventually it became too technical for non-SP808 owners.
      I think Bad Gear has a smart way to keep the attention.

    Good stuff Rogier, one of the things I like about hardware is that you get to mess about with Midi, the trouble with DAWs is that they automagically hide a lot of this interesting stuff from you.
    I'm currently editing up a little thing on controlling the Nord Modular from the Circuit Tracks using CC's

    • @theMIDImaniac
      @theMIDImaniac  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      You're so right about fiddling with midi and hardware. So much fun.
      The SP-808 stole my heart 4 years ago with it looks and then I discovered that it could be upgraded to the EX-version.
      Suddenly so many other options became available in combination with MIDI-fiddling.
      I'm curious about your project regarding the Nord and the Circuit.
      Share it on your channel. For sure people are interested in that.

    • @DocBolus
      @DocBolus 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@theMIDImaniac for sure I will share, one of the by products of the Tracks is that it has made the Nord inifitely more practicable as the 'other' synth in my setup with the dedicated midi tracks.

    wait....wtf lol so confused at first. I have a boss dr880 AND a SP-808 Pro on the way. Gonna try sequencing the synth on the 808 from the bass part on the dr-880......

    • @theMIDImaniac
      @theMIDImaniac  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Oh wow! What a cool combo! You will manage the syncing. You can use the Step Modulator for that.
      And yes, I just had to do that beginning. I may be 15 years older, but there's some resemblance ;-)

    • @danieldemayo6209
      @danieldemayo6209 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@theMIDImaniac my thoughts exactly! more cc control would be cool though :(. I could use the octatrack for that but im trying to build the ultimate budget boss/roland studio lol. your chan. has helped light my GAS. Do you know of any other Roland sequencers that can sequence cc besides the mv series?

    • @theMIDImaniac
      @theMIDImaniac  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@danieldemayo6209 Sorry for the GAS...Let's continue hahaha.
      Yes, I use the sequencers Roland MC-50 and Roland MC-500mkII for recording CC and SysEx.
      A lot of Roland sequencers can record CC. You find sequencers in workstations and groove boxes.
      The cheapest and most reliable sequencer in my opinion is the MC-50.
      It's a steady unit with great options.

    Hi Roger,
    This is a little off the wall, but I just watched one of your videos about the Roland D-20 from maybe a year or two ago and it's obvious you know that machine well.
    I've had a D-20 for a lot of years and I just dusted it off to use as a drum machine for piano practice and I've found that in the Rhythm modes the volume is very quiet and even at maximum volume it's difficult to hear. Do you know if that's typical and if there's a way to adjust it, or do you think that the machine might be defective?
    Kind regards and I'd really appreciate your thoughts.
    Peter

    • @theMIDImaniac
      @theMIDImaniac  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Peter,
      thanks for message and question.
      Oh yes...the D-20...Since the age of 15 I have that unit and I dove totally into that machine.
      Regarding the volume: check out this page of the manual where you can change the volume of the Rhythm Mode. This is separate from the Main Volume.
      www.manualslib.com/manual/695940/Roland-D-20.html?page=27#manual
      Hope this helps :D
      Best regards,
      Roger

      @@theMIDImaniac Hi Roger, Thanks so very much for taking the time to help with this, and yes, that sorted out the issue. It now works great.
      I'm happy for two reasons, firstly that it works, and secondly because the D-20 is a machine I bought many years ago for my wife, who is now passed away, so now I have another happy little reminder of her every time I use it.
      Thanks again so very very much and keep up the great work.

    SP808EX Questions lol.. I'd like to use the SP-808ex as an Effects plugin in my DAW. Is that possible? How would I connect it up. I have Studio One.
    Is there a way run samples from the DAW into the SP-808ex to be processed and played back into the DAW. *WITHOUT A DISK?

    • @theMIDImaniac
      @theMIDImaniac  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi!
      Sorry for the late response.
      What you can do is sending the sound of the Studio One or computer into the SP-808ex (without a disk inserted) and then the line out into your audio card of the computer.
      You can set the FX of the SP-808 as 100% input or as FX-send level to have the original input less affected.
      Hope this helps a little.
      Good luck!

    Exact same synth as the MV, at least same structure according to the manual.
    How are you doing with the MPCx?

    • @theMIDImaniac
      @theMIDImaniac  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It's indeed the same synth. Only difference is that the one from the SP can be controlled with 6 different parameters and the MV only 3.
      The MPCX is an MV on steroids IMHO.
      I'm used to the workflow of the MV and because of that I'm understanding quicker the X than I thought.
