My wife and I used to go camping frequently. We never thought about setting our tent up under a tarp. I think that is a GREAT idea.
I camp out on the beach. I watched a bunch of vids where the tent was placed underneath a tarp. Sooooooo. I put my tent underneath an easy-up tent :) I have no shame in stealing good ideas.
Came for the tarp, stayed for roxie !!!

I agreed to a wilderness elk bowhunt (aged 60) w/friends who ended up being days late due to unforeseen circumstances...those four days alone were the best days of my life...I learned a lot about me...

I loved the look on Roxy's face when the big crack of thunder happened. It was almost like she was trying to play it off as no big deal, but she kept you in the corner of her eye at all times. Dogs rule! 🐕

The water is audible from your camp choice, water , shelter , fire , quiet company food. Expect inclement weather. This nature's gift is why I love camping and solitude with my doggo, is all. That sound of rain is a gift too.

This is some very peaceful ASMR. What's better than the sound and smell of a forest. I never take for granted that I can drive for 20 minutes in any direction and find this. 😁

I really enjoy your videos. I am a 67-year old camper and backpacker, but you gave great new ideas and gear. I had a camping experience similar to what your video depicts a few years ago in June in the Sawtooth Mountains of Idaho. Because rain was forecast, I set my old Noah's Tarp up over my small tent. I woke up to an inch of snow on my tarp! Good thing I used it. I see you were using an external frame pack in this video. Iused an external frame Jansport D-5, the big one for years.
Hope you still have time to take your grandkids out there, Up in the Catskills went with buddy( 1984) and set camp under rain, drove back to town for dinner and back, over fire and some bourbon went to sleep and woke to 12" of snow. Hiked a bit but breaking branches because still with leaves and the snow weight drove us back, Ireplaceable memorys, The snowgirl and the pictures, Ups😅

this is the second time I watched this video and forgot to mention that I really liked the large tarp. It just makes so much sense in weather like that.
You have chosen a proper sized tarp. Most tarps people chose to camp with are far too small offering little protection from the elements. Love your dog Roxy. She must be a good companion for you. God bless.

I lived in a wilderness in the western USA for 9 1/2 years. I too had a smaller dog. He was half Sheltie and half Australian Shepard, 28 lbs soaking wet. He was my buddy, but equally important was that he was my early warning system. I could defend myself IF I saw it coming. I slept much better knowing he would sound the alarm ( whining not barking) If something came around at night, which he did many times. He was also easier to feed than a larger dog. He rarely barked and never chased anything. He also would fetch birds I shot even though he hated the feathers in his mouth. A great friend.

I got pictures of my last river trip. I knew it was going to storm I did the same thing. I got a camo large tarp from harbor freight and put over tent and I had plenty of room outside to cook. My grandson loved the comfort.

My dogs are funny, they always go camping with me since I camp solo, they love snow but don’t give them rain they hate it, thunder doesn’t bother them.

Wow, gr8 campsite. A tent w/ a huge vestibule. Very nice. Like truly light weight camping equipment. Cooking stove, pan, utensils, matress, sleeping bag, w/ tarp, lotsa strings, & w/ telescopic pole. Thx 4 sharing on Utube.

I live in the particularly windy area of Alberta right off the Rocky Mtns. If I use a tarp I need to really make sure it's anchored and lean the leeward side down quite a bit or the rain can blow in almost sideways. I've had the wind shift almost 90 degrees on me at night too, so it's a real pain. I prefer to bring a sturdy tent with a rain gauge cover. We can't start fires often here too, so just leaves butane cookers and good sleeping bags to deal with the chill.
This is so peaceful! Nothing beats the sounds of nature, great work!

I don't mind camping in the rain...the great transcendentalist philosopher Henry David Thoreau said, "there is no bad weather, just different types of weather." I have always lived by that creed when I am in the woods...just feel more blessed to be in the woods then what type of weather there is. I miss my basset hounds I took them for a hike or 2 in the woods but never took them on a campout except for a backyard campout with my kids...they were great dogs may they rest in peace. Another great video..the terrain looks alot like my Florida areas I camp in minus the saw palmettos
