Even though I have been "following" the cyber security scene for a handful of years, I always found myself being a bystander watching curiously on the sidelines. I was perfectly happy with this, as I've gotten the opportunity to work professionally in web development, as well as quite a bit of hobbyist game development. I have, however, very recently maybe gotten the chance to dive deep into what I believe is best described as a boot camp for cyber security analysis, and with this I have gotten exponentially more excited about the field as I've started to shift my brain from thinking that this is a field I am following out of curiousity, to a field that I could actually potentially join. I just wanted to thank you for this great overview. This is the first video of yours I've seen, and I've already found myself subscribed, liking the video, et cetera. If all goes well for me I will join you, and a lot of the fellow commenters here in pursuing this as a career. I got the 'boot camp job interview' in just under two weeks, so we'll see how it goes. Great video!

I don't know if words are enough to express my gratitude to you. You saved me from this suffering of choosing a major. I am an immigrant in the US and pretty much new to their education system. I'm 21 years old, and I'm in community college. I keep looking for a good major to build a good future for myself and my family. And I have been through so many decisions about my major that I am so tired. My dad is an aircraft engineer, so initially, I wanted to be a Pilot, but due to some obstacles, I couldn't. After losing my dream of being a pilot, I was utterly lost. I was jumping from one major to another. Then, my dad told me about cybersecurity. At first, I didn't give it that much thought because everyone was advising me that it is too easy, you're choosing the easy way, it is not an actual major, and so on. Needless to say, I am really interested in solving things, but I didn't know what major to choose. Then your video showed up and saved me. I had little information about cybersecurity, but now I know more to decide on a major. Thank you so much. I really appreciate your channel. ❤ Also, I have a question: I am interested in ethical hacking and cyber analysis; is it possible to major in both? Or do I have to choose between these, too

Hi, what about presales engineer? It's a role that is not mentioned here, but you need to have a strong and updated knowledge of different technologies. First, you need to understand what the customers need and have a common language with them. Second, you need to be able to build the solution, not only technically, but also in terms of cost. Third, you need to be able to generate a proposal that highlights all the benefits of your idea. Finally, you need to have soft skills because you are part of the sales process as well. I think it could be a pretty interesting profile as well.
I have a pre sale engineer certification and currently looking for a cybersecurity company to work for while also working on my cybersecurity certifications
Hi UnixGuy! This is a very helpful video for us fresh graduates who are aspiring to enter the Cybersecurity Field. Even though, I still have a long way to go before I can enter to cybersecurity. This would be a good introduction to those roles that I can consider to. Thanks!

Unix guy content is a video i never miss. what you sir had handled in this video is what top people in IT i met always revolve around, but you presented all topics and ideas effectively. I am doing systems presales in UAE - for the market (coming from a programming background) and i took up cybersecurity from your motivational and informative videos. it is really true that titles and descriptions themselves overlap in the cybersec field or any field really. The conclusion i have reached from your videos is to be knowledgeable on one field as a talent that could be later incorporated in your portfolio (i.e. pentest) and to earn the skills and practicalities that let you have a start in the market (i.e. Cybersec analyst). I cannot be ever enough grateful for your shared knowledge, unixguy.
work from home seem to be more depedent on the company itself rather than the role! to be honest all cyber role can be done from home so it depends if the company allows it! shift work is for some cyber analyst roles in a security operations centre that has 24/7 coverage

my pleasure :)
I think it could be a pretty interesting profile as well.
good points Adrian and I agree with you! I triedd to be generic here, but yes presales is a pretty great career path!
I have a pre sale engineer certification and currently looking for a cybersecurity company to work for while also working on my cybersecurity certifications
Thanks for the clarification 🎉
You’re welcome 😊
your content is attainable, and great inspiring to cyber security aspirants keep doing. 😊
Thanks a ton
Hi UnixGuy! This is a very helpful video for us fresh graduates who are aspiring to enter the Cybersecurity Field. Even though, I still have a long way to go before I can enter to cybersecurity. This would be a good introduction to those roles that I can consider to. Thanks!
you got this 👏🏻👏🏻
Thank you for including vendor tools in your videos.
🙏🏻
I was just thinking about which career path to choose. I do love technical work because I'm software engineer and also I feel interest in everything connected with ethical hacking. Thank you for helping me to choose path!
excellent :) my pleasure
Great video! Thank you for this information! 👏👏👏
Glad it was helpful!
Your content is simply amazing and inspiring. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. 🙏
My pleasure, thanks mate 🫡
I rarely comment on TH-cam but this video was incredible and I was looking for it for looooong time because I was confused about cybersec career. Thank you so much and keep going youre doing great
I'm so glad!
Excellent content, well put together. Are there any situations where merging more than one of these specialisations will work?
yes that’s what usually happen in smaller to medium sized organisations :)
Followed you after watching your first video. I have never watched a video other than yours that shared this type of information. Appreciate it. Ngl, I’m an entry-level cybersecurity guy that was knowing nothing about this field, except for knowing that I like it. Your videos gave me a lot of useful information that I need to arrange and chase my dream. One more time, thanks a lot mate.
so glad to hear that my friend! hopefully you'll keep on progressing and enjoy this journey :)
Thanks for explaining the roles and job positions. It was really hard to find a really good explanation like this one, it really clarified too many questions I had.
Glad it was helpful!
Thx for video. I want to be achitect
Best of luck!
I have 2 yrs of work experience as a Technical support engineer handling exchange online email and maintaining O365 user account and dealing with both hybrid and cloud infrastructure. I was really fascinated about cyber security so I cleared comptia security plus but I am confused which security field should I go , since I'm not good at programming. I mean i understand scripts but can't write my own 😅 . I just need your guidance
Your best bet is soc analyst to start. Not easy to get in others as a first job in cyber
since you have some Microsoft experience, why not start with this:
th-cam.com/video/8gks3pe69hQ/w-d-xo.html
then follow this roadmap:
th-cam.com/video/LFlsDm8w36A/w-d-xo.html
I can understand every word you say but when i look at others i feel like i dont know English
it’s on them, speaking with clarity is a skill
Beginning my journey. Clear clarification 👌
🙏🏻
Thank you for giving us knowledge about it.....i am a high school graduate in biology....will it be difficult for me to study Cyber analyst?
my pleasure! you can definitely make a start, nothing stopping you from starting to learn and build your skills out, stat here:

Now I understand why he puts Ethical Hacker at the top of the list
I’m curious, whats the reason?
I cannot be ever enough grateful for your shared knowledge, unixguy.
so glad to hear that and you have definitely got the right idea, good luck my friend 👏🏻
Thank you @unixguy where does Identity Access Management Analyst Fall under?
Closest would be the ‘engineer’ :)

Very informative
Glad it was helpful!
Wow what a great video. Do you know which roles may offer WFH and/or shift work?
work from home seem to be more depedent on the company itself rather than the role! to be honest all cyber role can be done from home so it depends if the company allows it!
shift work is for some cyber analyst roles in a security operations centre that has 24/7 coverage
@@UnixGuy thank you!
Thank you for this video! It was very informative. I also wanted to do consulting, but I don't like dealing with huge egos so I think I'll avoid that path. Haha.
😅👍
wise advise. a job that every day doing (not necesrily rutine) match with your personality. that one could do it. even no body pay you.
💯
Where does Application Security fit in this list? Extreme left of SDLC during coding stage
I should’ve probably talked about it separately but here is a dedicated video about AppSec:

Always usable tidbits of information for working in the Cyber Security Industry. Thank You for Sharing
glad you found it helpful!
This is amazing. Until now o didnt know i was already a Vulnerability management analyst and could start working in cybersecurity. Here i am trying to get more and more certifications thinking i cant work yet. I cant thank you enough. This video is an eye-opener ❤
Glad it was helpful 🙃
15:55 😂I’ve got this attitude, all I need is the expertise. Definitely suitable for me. 👍
🙃
Hi Unixguy. Hope you are fine and good. What is your opinion regarding cyberdefenders certification ( CCD)?
I haven’t looked into them, no idea! please follow the certification recommends in my videos
@@UnixGuy okay I will follow what you suggest. Could you enable the subtitles 🥺?
@@UnixGuy Thank you by the way
@@zenstar1 subtitles come by default, just go to the settings of youtube vide click on ‘cc’
@@UnixGuyI think TH-cam is processing the video for automatic subtitles. So, that is why it is not there since you uploaded a few minutes back.
Thank you for this I will be finished around New Year and right now I am interning at a Bank. So yes boy do I need this..
You got this!
I'm not so focused on the amount of money, but the flexibility like WFH due to personal reasons.. Which one would be the best choice for this?
all of these roles can be done remotely, so it really depends on if the company allows it. Depends on the company culture
Hey just wanted to be the random comment saying the haircut looks great! Very classy, thank you for being our cybersecurity mentor
haha thanks mate, I appreciate your comment 👋🏻
Every morning i come here
To get a good energy to complete my Google cybersecurity course 😭😭😂

At 6:09 mins. Spot on! 'It gets boring really quickly"
💯
Thank you so much my friend you will make the best career advisor for cyber security
🤝
My inspiration to become a "hacker" came from the Manga "Bloody Monday"
