      I completely agree. This is proper mechanics not just diagnostic machine, plug guess and a go.
      Proper mechanics. I remember years ago going to a garage to help a mate with an old high millage Merc. Would run and cut out. Disconnected the DPF run fine.

    I'd say the lack of cambelt maintenance has caused it to jump a tooth causing timing to go out sooting up DPF and thus killing the turbo

  • @Holdeenio
    @Holdeenio 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    It should have pulled a fault code for a blocked DPF... but it being blocked solid makes sense why it wouldn't let itself start. Makes sense with such crazy mileage that it's probably been a parcel van in a city or something - loads of short journeys. Give autotechs CC a call and get them to do a full DPF flush (clear out) and a de-carbon clean on the engine and inlet.

    I wonder has that caddy had an engine change at some point because as far as i was aware the mk4 caddys had the newer 2.0 tdi engines with the charge coolers on the intake and adblue as well like on the mk7 golf that engine is the mk6 style 2.0tdi engine with no adblue or charge cooler that typically would have been found in the mk3, mk4 engines are normally coded DFSX, for example mines is DFSD its the 101bhp model
    The 150bhp engine in the mk4 should have code DFSB
    Might be worth looking in to? I could be wrong they could maybe have put the older engine in some of the mk4’s but ive never seen one

    • @jasoneldridge4738
      @jasoneldridge4738 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The very early mk4 used the 2ltr tdi ,after the emissions scandal came out ( boring), the early 1.6 and 2.0 engines were dropped and the adblue era started.

  • @danl4252
    @danl4252 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Interesting. The VW workshop manual says to check the soot level of the DPF after 140K miles and then at shorter intervals thereafter.

    • @rkan2
      @rkan2 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If it is driven that much, it has probably had its regeneration cycles so the DPF is probably fine except if its had some physical damage.
