    A highly regarded former Director General of Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI), who also served as Director General of Military Intelligence, says that the “Pakistani people have become fed up with the musical chairs and circuses” the army has repeatedly played by placing its favorite politicians in power and then removing them when it loses confidence in them. Although Imran Khan and his PTI Party’s long march, which resumes tomorrow, Thursday the 10th, and its general defiance of the army and ISI is a serious threat, the “frustration” and “disillusionment” of the Pakistani people and, in particular, young Pakistanis, is a far bigger concern, says Lt. Gen. Asad Durrani.

    Imran Khan is the most honest leader we have got in 70yrs. Our corrupt military Generals, our rogue ISI elements and our corrupt politicians are ganged together to protect the corrupt status quo, which is beneficial for Pakistani elite and this system has nothing for people of Pakistan. Our corrupt Army Generals have never let any politician to establish institutions in Pakistan because it served their purpose being only established institution in Pakistan.
    These corrupt Generals and politicians have become billionaire in Pakistan and poor are getting poorer. First time in 70yrs we have someone who talks about poor people and 90% of our population love Imran Khan and they can live and die for Khan. Our corrupt Generals and ISI lost their popularity and touching their lowest ebb, our politicians have also lost their credibility in the eyes of people and only person whom everyone in Pakistan trust is Imran khan the most honest leader. This is not acceptable to our corrupt Generals because they want to keep all Pakistani politicians under their thumb but they can't do it to Imran Khan so they tried to kill him through rouge elements of ISI and drug dealer, Interior Minister Rana Sana, who was couple of years back arrested by same Army along with 15kg of heroin. No Pakistani is going to trust the Army and these drug dealer politicians anymore.
    The attempt to kill Khan was planned by Gen Bajwa, Gen Nadeem Anjum DG ISI, Gen Faisal Naseer DG IW ISI and Shahbaz Sharif, Rana Sanaullah. These are the same people who ordered and planned killing of Arshad Sharif, a renowned honest journalist in Pakistan. All these corrupt Generals and politicians are against any honest person in Pakistan.
    We are so disappointed in Western world Govts that they don't condemn these people in their capacity and rather they favour them because corrupt Generals and politicians serve their purpose inside Pakistan. But we Pakistanis have great faith in ALLAH Almighty that He will bring back Khan in power to serve his people and eradicate corruption and corrupt Generals and politicians from our society. This might be my wishful thinking and I am ready to live with it as long as Khan is alive.

    When Pakistanis speak of 'FAUJ' in anger for Army infringement in civil domain and occupying civilian posts, they mean only the numbered malevolent opportunist bunch of adventurers in Army. As such, we the people of Pakistan are never against PAF, PN and Pak Army as they are our children, elders, relatives, dear ones ghazi and shaheed - our religious and societal heroes. Pakistanis love their Armed forces. Gen Durrani too cannot be candid in true sense as this will cost him a lot as it has done recently to thousands serving and the retired. It is time for Army to completely pull out from political and civil domain for political and economic stability in Pakistan. If not heeded, then Pakistanis do not need any enemy to destroy or dismember us. India has never been a threat for Pakistanis. When it comes to India, we are one with one focus - India! Karan - great interview. Asad Durrani was clearly cryptic in some areas and yet as open as perhaps he could be given his position. Having said that, he is a member of the old guard and you can see it in the way he speaks about containing the Long March.
    It is clear also that the three accused are involved in the assassination attempt of Imran Khan. The question of whether this changes the support base of Imran Khan is irrelevant : call him what may he is extremely popular.

    I think Mr Durrani circumvented the context of Imran Khan's response to DG ISI and misrepresented the mode and spirit of his answer to the DG. The question posed by Mr Thapar was about DG ISI's insinuation that Imran Khan levels allegations against the army chief in the morning while he meets him secretly in the night, as if it's some kind of dubiousness. Well those meetings according to IK were about negotiations to get the country out of the crisis, holding elections etc. It is completely conceivable that matters pertaining to national security and maybe mistakes committed by the Generals were also discussed and admitted, as DG ISPR has also publicly admitted that mistakes might have been made by them. So it was actually very conniving of the DG ISI to present those meetings as some kind of flattery exercise by IK in secret, while IK didn't publicly discuss the content of those meetings. And IKs angry response stopping at just warning the DG was in that context. He didn't use knowing the secrets of national security matters as some kind of tool to coerce them to his demands, it was just a shut up call.

    Two important points if I may add. Previous governments when removed through military intervention, including Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto, Nawaz Sharif & Benazir Bhutto brought jubilation to the populace because people believed them to be corrupt, inefficient & autocratic. Public reaction has been quite the opposite after removal of Imran Khan. Firstly there are no corruption charges against him, unlike the rest he does not believe in dynastic politics and most importantly people perceive him as an honest, patriotic, nationalist & a bold leader. At 70 years, he is physically fit, still charismatic & a large majority of youth identifies with him. His meteoric rise in popularity after the removal has surprised political pundits & those who facilitated the change.
    Secondly Imran Khan’s creative & effective social media team has made a huge difference to blunt the government’s conservative approach to use press conferences, print & main
    stream electronic media. More than likely the impact of public awakening as a result of intense political activities at national scene, unintended repositioning of state institutions on national issues will have positive long term effects on establishing democratic traditions in the country. The military has learnt many lessons in recent years & they are likely to take a backseat giving main organs of the state their due space.

    I'm afraid the good General may be more-than-slightly off the mark with assessment of the Khan government. They were doing great with record foreign exchange reserves, record remittances and record exports. Agriculture was rising, tourism was taking off, textile looms were churning better than the past, Pakistan's performance in the pandemic was one of the best the world over, oil prices were subsidised in the face of rising costs across the globe and cheap housing projects were being erected for the destitute.

Mr Thapar is trying to be put a different spin on it, by suggesting that ppl and ik are two different challengesas if he doesnt represent the public sentiment. IK is, for good or bad, representing ppl's sentiments and not because he has done somethiing out of the ordinary but that the other side has exposed themselves to be the vilans! and got army caught with its pants down

  • @sultanbin2170
    @sultanbin2170 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    This discussion is entirely a distraction of the real problem that Pakistan is facing since 1947. Problem 1: Pakistan has no federal political party. Problem 2: For democracy to succeed two political party system is crucially important, Pakistan did not get a two political party system since 1947. All parties in Pakistan are local, and they are not really different political parties as their fundamental principle is the same right wing. Unless Pakistan did not find two different political party systems like: Republican and Democrat in USA, or Reformist and Principalist in Iran, democracy cannot stabilize Pakistan. So military interference is absolutely necessary to stabilize Pakistan which is what Pakistan military has been doing in Pakistan since 1947. It is the problem of the mindset of Pakistani people who cannot think about someone campaigning for left spectrum of the political reality of the world. If Pakistani people can give an echosystem where left and right spectrum of politics can campaign freely then a two political party system might emerge and this and only this would end the military intervention in Pakistani politics.

And when asked about the innocent killings perpetuated by Taliban, he audaciously called that a collateral damage and said it's the war we are fighting and everything is fair in love and war.
    And then co-authoring his book with former RAW chief is something one could imagine how deep secret agencies come together at fault lines for interests. By the way, now a days he's being seen as a traitor in his own country and all of a sudden now coming through Karan Thapar's window and teaching the world morals of system, how the system should be and should not be. While other countries have moved on from the pursuit of truth and the right way in terms of state affairs to diplomacy and progress, Pakistanis are still stuck in that Neanderthal mentality and the situation will only get worse as we no longer have the quality education we had before the 2000s. For the very first time in the history, almost 100% of politically literate population now hates the army, something which Nawaz Sharif wasn't able to achieve despite several tries. Before 2022, I would slap anyone who said Pakistan would balkanize, but now I'm not so sure. Imran Khan has done what India, Israel and US failed to do.

    Asad Durrani should be ashamed of himself for his past his past meddling in political domain to ensure politicians are kept under the army thumb. The truth is that people of Pakistan were led to believe that army was serious in cleaning up the filth and corruption that surrounds body politics. But alas, it was a false hope. Army had no such design. They merely settling their own score with Sharif and Zardari. Once they were out of office, they were protected from facing prosecution. This perception or reality is fully baked in people's mind and as a consequence become disillusioned with the army leadership.
