Bro, reading a 'few books' gives you enough data and analytical tools to analyse a situation and provide insights. He has at least done that. I am wondering what you wanted to hear. Do you have any alternative analysis to provide here? Are you a practitioner-scholar? Do you have a PhD in Security Studies, or have you taken a Higher Command Course at NDC or Leavenworth?

very nuanced discussions which is needed in the strategic circles, the new gen strategic thinkers and miliatry experts need to explore the complex dynamics between the civil military relations and how populism and jingosim leads to self destruction of organisational structure and blunts the winning edge of the INDIAN armed forces. More deep dives please! I have a feeling that the Venn diagram of TSATU listeners and EiE viewers will soon become a circle. The podcast excels in longform audio biographies and the video seems to lend itself to "sense making" in-depth analyses.

Ajay Shah's abstract description of an Army as an organization (in Ch. 3) reminds me of Charles Duhigg's "Power of Habit". In that sense, an army is a very special organization where habits/behaviors are drilled down through protocols/procedeures with discipline.

@alokgupta7239 first principles is way of thinking by breaking the problem to the smallest possible piece and then solving it, it throws up some remarkable original ideas and very good hueristic to operate in this world
Excellent episode. One of the few honest voices about the Indian victim mentality on '71 hostility to the US was a failure of Indian foreign policy. The only gripe I'd have is about Ajay's absolutist stance on not killing people. The shackling of India post independence was really the the moral superiority complex that came out of massive hangups - socialism, nonviolence and vegetarianism.
The point was, there is merit in the tradeoffs involved in the Third Globalisation if it exchanges prosperity for lives. The moral judgement then becomes : how much GDP would you give up per life saved?

It seems very touchy feely, akin to the Nehruvian championing of the global south when a more realistic policy would serve us better. I'm assuming we're coming at it from different value systems and we can't reconcile this.
It is of course true that value systems can differ. But it's good to debate, to try to do philosophical experiments. If it was $1 of GDP for one life, where would you be? If it was $1B per life, where would you be? And then, what is the adverse impact upon GSP of the Third Globalisation? And, how many lives will it save? Going down these alleys seems fruitful. We may not converge but we will understand more. The world will always yield messy outcomes but we should try to think.

I disagree with Ajay's comment on our foreign diplomacy failing during the 1971 war. As far as I know, our diplomacy played a crucial role in managing foreign press by exposing Pakistan's genocide in Bangladesh. The American media was particularly supportive, and the people responded positively.
But not the American state. Foreign policy is about the complex give and take through which many states take positions that are more suited to the interests of the people of India. There are two choke points in that sentence.
Correct the sound. Lower the bass. This is the same problem in ur podcast. Absolutely hard to listen if u r listening with a woofered blutooth speaker.

I don't recall a discussion on annuities in depth. Maybe there is some material in the Renuka Sane pensions SATU.
There is no meaningful path to inflation indexed annuities in the present configuration of fiscal, financial and monetary policy.
