Tbh I feel like the reaction 99% of people have when they hear about a good player is to think "Okay, maybe they're good, but I bet I am/the people I know are better". No one defaults to assuming "I bet they'll be the best player I know" unless the person has a legitimate reputation lol.
The Smash Brothers got me into SSBM. I'm happy to see this clip, since it's obvious that you poured as much talent and hard work into it as you did the original documentary.
I dont get the joke. Is it cause they play all the time and you do not know which match you are talking about? Watched one match and it was quite boring. But you know, thats just me..
This is a really clever way of showing the Pound 3 losers bracket run in an exciting way when the vods aren't available. Samox, you continue to impress me. I cannot wait for Metagame. Everything about this excerpt is masterful. The interview clips all serve an important purpose, the pacing and sequencing is EXTREMELY well done, and the music, dialogue, video, and pics all fit together and are perfectly timed . You are an amazing storyteller, Samox. Your hard work really shows. (Also, I just realized that TBH4 grand finals was Mango in losers vs. M2K. Genius.)
Just want to thank travis (samox) for being a big reason to why i play this game. We all appreciate your work and the time you take to do so. Thank you.
Yeah, I can make out what they're saying, but I feel like people who don't know all the names and lingo are giong to have trouble following... (And I think it has more to do with the people not enunciating well, than with the music being too loud. Some people like Scar and Toph are easier to understand. Unfortunately, even though he's awesome, Wife seems to blend some of his words together when he speaks fast.)
The people saying this most likely have way too much bass on whatever theyre using. With high quality headphones you shouldnt have a problem hearing them
I saw the original doc in the spring of 2015, and I was amazed at the depth of the story lines and how resilient the smash community is. It got me into competative smash so to see a new episode coming out is really cool to me and makes me optimistic about the direction that the community is moving in.
You never know what'll happen in the future. If anything, Mango still has the potential to squash anyone. Despite not winning every tournament, it's not like there's anyone he hasn't been able to beat recently
I have seen this single video no less than 10 times now... every time it has given me chills. I don't care whether this documentary comes out in November or 10 years from now. As long as it comes out, I will be MORE than happy. Keep up the great work, Samox!
YOU GUYS GOT BOBBY HELL YEAH we in for a good time. We have a great lineup of personalities, really looking forward to the commentary on this just as much as the documented material itself. Wife looks like someone's dad, Chillin fixed his hair (finally. that shit looks clean though), Toph looks like a kid someone picked up somewhere, Lucky looks like he's been in the mountains, and Mang0 hasn't changed a bit. Love these guys.
I mean… These are exactly how Mang0's matches at Pound 3 and The Big House 4 went. These were his actual matches in losers. Pound 3 smashboards.com/data/rankings/160.jpg TBH4 (bottom right) smashboards.com/data/rankings/2364.jpg It's certainly symbolic cuz it's two tournaments 6 years apart where he came back from losers to win against M2K in Grand Finals. But it IS a literal representation of two tournaments. These aren't made up examples. So… you know.
Yeah but they're not visually different enough in my opinion :o They look exactly the same save for the colour - and the names of course, but with rapid editing like this + voiceover, it's not easy to keep track of. I think making them more distinct visually would help out viewers like me. Yknow? Idk. Maybe make the Pound brackets look like old paper brackets and the TBH4 brackets look like challonge brackets. 's just my two cents!
Good stuff Samox. Excited to see the end product. You clearly have a grasp of the shape you want it to be. Keep working your magic even on those long nights in front of the screen.
Super Hype for this Samox!! Couldn't ask for a better man to document this history. One thing that I think would help the mirroring effect between the 2 different tournaments would be to show the player portraits like the last series, but with a young Mango portrait for the older tournament and a current portrait for the newer tournament. Maybe even change the color scheme of the brackets. Keep the energetic neon for the new tournament but possibly use a more desaturated color scheme for the older one. No matter what I think it will turn out amazing like last time, just spitballing ideas. Keep up the amazing work!
I rarely tap on the notification for new youtube videos from people I am subscribed to, but when I see a new video from East Point, I stop whatever I'm doing cause it's time for a melee update.
After seeing this in the actual documentary I’m amazed with just how good it was. I thought this was an improvement over the original doc when I saw it years ago, but seeing the final product shocked me with just how much it had improved since this original clip.
Yo, I'm so hype and I don't know how I'm supposed to contain it until Dec 11th. Truly the best timing, and #FreeMelee is gonna rally to let this game live another 19 years
I was confused when you were showing Mang0's bracket progression in the old and the new tournament side by side. I get it now, but during the video, I had no idea what was going on.
I love this and all the contrast it shows: young mango vs old mango, grassroots melee vs more esports melee, the crowd/venue size, and through it all mango is still making the same crazy losers run. Gives a real sense of what makes mango special and how the scene has evolved around him. Music and the tone/feel are perfect. The end gave me chills. However, I think the lack of any sort of establishing scenes for tbh4 and the fact that there isn't any footage of the actual pound 3 matches(which is understandable) makes the bracket progression part of the excerpt a bit confusing. When I saw it for the first time on the smashcon panel stream I thought the pound 3 in-game zoom shots were just accenting tbh4 matches, not representations of each of the pound matches. Also I was confused about which bracket was for which tournament for a few seconds. I never had a chance to really associate orange bracket with tbh4 and green/blue with pound. If someone really familiar with the scene is making these mistakes I think casual audiences would definitely be confused as well. I feel like some sort of "X years later: The Big House 4" intro panel would improve things. On second watch it was way clearer to me so maybe I just wasn't paying attention, and this is just a clip so context might make it way clearer, but was anyone else confused at first? Also super nitpicky thing the pixel font and gradients in the graphics felt a little cheap to me. Imo something like zooming around a handwritten bracket would feel more authentic and cohesive. Again, overall amazing, I'm just pedantic af.
I swear I've watched this 100's of times and everytime I hit the end and see the "Metagame" screen I say out loud, "WHY CAN'T THIS JUST BE OUT ALREADY!!!!!!" *cries*
Sick stuff man, can't wait. Also maybe it was just me, but the juxtaposition (I hate myself for using that word too) of the pound 3 losers run and the BH4 losers run could have been less confusing, or more apparent, for the not-so-avid smash player. It's a sick idea, but it took me a little to connect that parallel you were doing.
Extremely excited for the full doc! Quick side note, the music was just a tad bit too loud. Had to really focus on what they were saying and needed to block the music out. Other than that, amazing
Not to be a typical Mang0 fan, I truly love his explosive style of play. He just really excellently plays the game. Not saying he's the best, but he's a favorite to watch imo. #GOAT
Good lord I can't wait for this. Music was a little loud at some parts, but your editing is on another level. So stoked.
oh shit theres a legend in these comments
Naked Jaked~
Love u dad xo @nakeyjakey
legend has it, he is still stoked to this day
You're a legend dude, I love your videos
Chillin with Ken at Game Over- "not anything crazy"
Chillin with Mang0 at Pound 3- "we knew he wasn't that good"
Chillin is definitely not a Psychic.
Tbh I feel like the reaction 99% of people have when they hear about a good player is to think "Okay, maybe they're good, but I bet I am/the people I know are better". No one defaults to assuming "I bet they'll be the best player I know" unless the person has a legitimate reputation lol.
Chillin when wavedashing was discovered - "seems kinda useless imo"
The Smash Brothers got me into SSBM. I'm happy to see this clip, since it's obvious that you poured as much talent and hard work into it as you did the original documentary.
Based motbob Kreygasm
motbob you the real mvp

It's so cool to see Chillin and Wife after the roles they played in the Smash Brothers.
I don't think some of ya'll understand how amazing the storytelling is in this clip. THIS IS DOPE!
This is Gooooddllliikkeee I can't wait!
goodlike
I dont get the joke. Is it cause they play all the time and you do not know which match you are talking about? Watched one match and it was quite boring. But you know, thats just me..
I don't even think I know what you're trying to say, let alone how to answer you.
lol
dont feel bad, im also confused
This is a really clever way of showing the Pound 3 losers bracket run in an exciting way when the vods aren't available. Samox, you continue to impress me. I cannot wait for Metagame. People have been saying it's hard to hear the interviews but I didn't have any problems so if you turn down the music don't turn it down too much.
what you said is essentially the same thing as turning down the music >
>
Yeah, I can make out what they're saying, but I feel like people who don't know all the names and lingo are giong to have trouble following... (And I think it has more to do with the people not enunciating well, than with the music being too loud. Some people like Scar and Toph are easier to understand. After 4 years when this was posted it’s finally coming this week. I’m so excited
this is amazing.
this is so wild to see u here, didn't know u liked melee, I love ur stuff!!
Ironic that the predator chronicles guy is into smash considering the whole controversy a while back
Literraly typed metagame to explain it to my friends who kno e nothing about fighting games, accidentally found this video, not disappointed 👌
find you somebody that looks at you the way hmw looks at mango's fox
Anyone in 2019 still waiting for this Doc?
me bro. hes working on it going to Netflix younshoild watch his streams
2020.
The year is 20xx. Hbox still dominates tournaments with puff and the metagame documentary is still "coming soon"
2021. Where’s it at
Omg the ''PRESS START'' on the metagame cover, at the end, makes it soooooo much better
I saw the original doc in the spring of 2015, and I was amazed at the depth of the story lines and how resilient the smash community is. It got me into competative smash so to see a new episode coming out is really cool to me and makes me optimistic about the direction that the community is moving in.
Not just another episode. Several episodes. A new doc of similar length to the previous one. Hold onto your butts
For anyone wondering, the music to the Mango loser bracket runback is called To Evolution, it's a rap about EVO.
Still come back and watch this, I don’t care how long the wait is, this is gonna be a masterpiece
I miss mango being the top gun. don't think I'd be as in to Melee as I am if it weren't for 2014
Bruh, same
2014 Mango was a monster
Smash con though :)
MajorLeagueTurtle Lets go fruit bois
You never know what'll happen in the future. If anything, Mango still has the potential to squash anyone. Despite not winning every tournament, it's not like there's anyone he hasn't been able to beat recently
the final version of this in the metagame doc is so much cleaner
I have seen this single video no less than 10 times now... every time it has given me chills. I don't care whether this documentary comes out in November or 10 years from now. As long as it comes out, I will be MORE than happy. Keep up the great work, Samox!
It's finally here, doesn't feel like it's been over 4 years since I saw this trailer. Even better than i could've ever hoped for so far!
I am so excited to see Wife's input in the documentary. He is like a solid 30% of what made me love the first documentary!
the transitions from pound to big house were so good. Excited to see how leffen involves himself in the storyline lffnEgo
this editing is fantastic, I'm at a loss for words. Metagame will be as sick as Loser's Bracket Mang0!
i got chills 9 times during this, no joke. cant wait
"MEW2KING IS NEXT!"
YOU GUYS GOT BOBBY HELL YEAH we in for a good time.

yo this is good shit but the bracket parts are a little confusing. maybe making it more clear which tournament it is would help
otherwise flawless
Yeah I agree with that too, maybe make the Pound 3 brackets go left to right and the Big House 4 brackets go right to left?
It's meant to be symbolic. It's not a literal representation of any tournament. These are examples of what a Mango losers run looks like.
The pound 3 bracket was green and tbh4 bracket was orange
I mean… These are exactly how Mang0's matches at Pound 3 and The Big House 4 went. These were his actual matches in losers.
Pound 3 smashboards.com/data/rankings/160.jpg
TBH4 (bottom right) smashboards.com/data/rankings/2364.jpg

THANK YOU
Thank you so much
+Ayy Lmao hey bro nice profile pic

Thank you so much, you're the best
Comparing this to the final thing is insane, they improved so much
I AM SO HYPE FOR THIS
Good stuff Samox. Excited to see the end product. You clearly have a grasp of the shape you want it to be. Keep working your magic even on those long nights in front of the screen.
Rewatching after Smash Summit 11. Loser’s run mang0 is the goat.
Oh my god, I cannot wait for this. I've seen The Smash Brothers probably more than 10+ times. This is going to be amazing :DDD
Rewatching today and it’s still such a beautiful piece
Super Hype for this Samox!! Couldn't ask for a better man to document this history.

Mango is confirmed Goku. Always messing around until it gets serious.
post set hugs are wonderful. the sportsmanship makes my heart sing lol
"He's good in finals" - Toph
First thing I thought of was Armada vs Mango at Genesis 4
Coming back to this after Metagame announcement, can’t wait to see how far it’s come.
WHO WROTE THE MUSIC IT SLAPS SO HARD
Interesting how this popped into my feed the day after Mango wins TBH9
Oh my go I am so hyped!! You do not even know how much the first documentary inspired me to train my ass off for competitive play. I can't even....
I rarely tap on the notification for new youtube videos from people I am subscribed to, but when I see a new video from East Point, I stop whatever I'm doing cause it's time for a melee update.
Armada and Mango have put on a lot of weight since 2014.
Pan Z yeah, and chillindude. Not to mention m2k's hair...
The choice in music is always A1 coming from you guys. KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK
I love how there's no vods from back then so there's just highlights of him dumpstering lucky
I've watched this excerpt maybe twenty times. I really hope this new doc comes out soon :/
After seeing this in the actual documentary I’m amazed with just how good it was. I thought this was an improvement over the original doc when I saw it years ago, but seeing the final product shocked me with just how much it had improved since this original clip.
Goosebumps from the soundtrack, as usual.
thou shalt never sleep on the kid. it was written.
Yo, I'm so hype and I don't know how I'm supposed to contain it until Dec 11th. Truly the best timing, and #FreeMelee is gonna rally to let this game live another 19 years
wow metagame has been a long time in the making. we ate routing for you to get it to Netflix
this is ridiculously well made, good lord
Yo I really liked the parallel between the two tournaments. Nice! Really liking the editing. I wanna see more! :P
I was confused when you were showing Mang0's bracket progression in the old and the new tournament side by side. I get it now, but during the video, I had no idea what was going on.
thats true but its not there fault since there is no footage of Pound 3
So excited for this, great work on the smash documentary as well man we all appreciate it.
So happy to hear yungtown's evo rap in the background! Metagame is going to be amazing!!
this video always gets me so hyped
Still waiting. How long is it taking to finish this project?? It's been in the making for what. 5 or 6 years?
Yeah. Absolutely ridiculous.
Fuck, it was worth it
I watch this every monday morning to hype me for the week
with the metagame premiere announcement i've watched this clip like 10x. Get hype, it's time boys.
I love this and all the contrast it shows: young mango vs old mango, grassroots melee vs more esports melee, the crowd/venue size, and through it all mango is still making the same crazy losers run. I swear I've watched this 100's of times and everytime I hit the end and see the "Metagame" screen I say out loud, "WHY CAN'T THIS JUST BE OUT ALREADY!!!!!!" *cries*
i vote for louder voices and not quieter music. everything else is so good that i got chills :)
Toph's breakdown of Mango's mind-reading got me hype.
the music makes this 10 times more hype tbh . Fits perfectly
My favorite moment from the doc
Legit more hyped for this than 99% of what hollywood is bringing this and next year. This looks so sick!
I am so hyped right now. Awesome job Samox. the wait already seems worth it :D
That music during that montage got me so effing pumped
Sick stuff man, can't wait. Also maybe it was just me, but the juxtaposition (I hate myself for using that word too) of the pound 3 losers run and the BH4 losers run could have been less confusing, or more apparent, for the not-so-avid smash player. Chills every time
I get chills watching this, can't wait for the full video
If anyone watched this a million times for the song like me, it’s called “in evolution (instrumental)”
The ultimate gaming song
This was also me haha. Appreciate the comment!
"The fact that it's Melee doesn't matter. He just beat YOU." Jesus, thats savage.
idk what is going to arrive first this documentary or ppmd
The music is not too loud, it sounds great.
really hope this has its own context and doesn't expect you to know everything from the previous documentary.
I'm surprised people don't recognize the music. Yungtown is such a good artist man, he should get more attention
Wow, this was already finished in 2016! I watched this in December 2020!
Extremely excited for the full doc!
Quick side note, the music was just a tad bit too loud. Had to really focus on what they were saying and needed to block the music out. Other than that, amazing
This is such a tease! Lol but I'm really happy you put this clip up! So good!
That track... suits the Mang0 runs really well... Many will complain about how the music is too loud though
W I F E H Y P E
Not to be a typical Mang0 fan, I truly love his explosive style of play. He just really excellently plays the game. Not saying he's the best, but he's a favorite to watch imo. #GOAT
Oh siiiii la Secuela de el Primer Documental de Melee esta en Camino
Gracias por este Proyecto :3
HugS teeth look so much better in this than they do in the original documentary. Solid dental work lmao.
this is like the perfect redemption for the mango episode.
This better be out soon, I can't wait any longer it looks so hype.
I actually love this little excerpt it's so good
YES WIFE IS BACK so many great excerpts from him in the other series
these videos give me the chills.
man.. that "metagame press start" artwork in the end..
I wanna buy it
I'm so looking forward to it. And every time you get me with your music choice =D
Mang0/ Lucky do not want handwarmers. So here they are.
Shivers dude
song during mango's runs?
Soo good! Keep up the good work man! Can't wait for this to come out.
