Melancholy is not the same as "depressing". Several songs in Disintegration have a melancholy feel to them but if the listener also happens to be in that frame of mine, hearing someone sing thoughts similar to your own can be very uplifting because it lets you know you're not alone.

Love to hear Robert talk so chatty and candidly about production and how everything comes together. I say it often and I'll say it again, he is simply a genius and it's truly amazing how the band just love playing together...for all these years!🖤

I recall that as a teen I played the albums over and over again. They were/are so good and I am pleased they received the award. As a 58 year old fan, it didn’t matter, because they are my band and always will be.

This album is THE most perfect album of ALL TIME, FOR ME. I have already requested that it be played as the last album I ever hear. It's brilliant I feel like it was a spiritual experience seeing the concert tour for this album. ❤ Robert is such a good man. You can feel his passion and that of the band in his music. His interactions with the fans are beyond precious. You never feel like he takes us for granted. One of the most amazing things is how little his voice has changed over the years. The man, the band, the album are all just treasures. ❤❤❤❤❤

When I heard Robert talk about the amount of people that were attending the Hall of Fame induction ceremony and how surprised he was , I was surprised. I think Robert highly underestimates The Cure's fan base numbers... He's so humble... This and Roger's interview were freakin' amazing!!!! The Cure has always and will continue to always be my favorite band of ALL TIME!!! I've been listening to them since 1992 when I was introduced to their sound... Mixed Up was actually my first album and that was already 2 years old... Then I found their greatest album.....Disintegration, been a fan ever since. I have all their albums...

Good interview. Amazing to think that RS was talking about the "new album" back in 2019. Here it is mid-2023, and we've yet to see the new album. (I did see the live concert supporting the new album, though!) Thank you for posting.

Well done for getting Robert Smith on the show and congratulations for resisting the urge to interrupt. Yes, he does talk at length but you never know when he might arrive at a crucial piece of information or insight we wouldn't have heard otherwise. Also, he's getting to be an old man now. This may be /really/ the last thing he ever does. It's always a tragedy when a great creative person dies and after they do we can't ask them any more questions about their art or their reasons or ideas and we can't hope for any more interviews or songs or material. Once he is gone this will immediately become archive material and a record of who he was. It's crucial to let him say what he wants so we will know what he would have said if we'd asked. I rarely listen to long-form TH-cam videos throughout but this one I didn't want to miss. It's a scoop to have him.

I wish Robert's newer listeners would visit his library of music. Pornography is a masterpiece, along with 17 Seconds and The Top.

I could listen to Robert talk ALL day. His voice is soo soothing and he's such an interesting person. I appreciate him so much. 🖤🖤🖤🖤

This interview is now a few years ago. The band is now in the middle of their SHOWS OF THE LOST WORLD tour in North America. I attended their Chicago show on this tour. And according to reviews suddenly EVERYONE and their mother & grandmother & cats and dogs, are in absolute love with this band. As I have always been since 1980 myself. Robert continues to amaze and that voice that never changes over these many years, just incredible. Robert Smith will always be my lord and savior. 🙏🎶🎼🎸

What a friggen genius. Makes me feel so dumb. Love Robert for all the strange reasons we all do asCure fans.

  • @iridiumMirror

It's astounding to me that he was actually happy, having a great time, while writing Disintegration. It was the soundtrack for my own life collapsing in 1989 and to this day evokes those feelings and memories. Which, considering how wonderful my life is now, it is good for me to recall, it keeps me grateful.
