By far and away my absolute favorite album of all time, and has been since the first time I heard it. It is incredibly difficult to listen through from beginning to end without a flood of memories, some good and others not so much. It's emotionally elevating and exhausting, and takes you on an soulful journey that I've not experienced with anything else.

I was 19, already a Cure fan, but it was my second year at college and I was a bit preoccupied with studies. At first listen, I distinctly recall feeling that Disintegration was a BIG sounding album with a lot of working parts that required unpacking, i.e. a much slower, deeper listening than all the previous work. And so it was for me...thankfully without any input from rock reviews or the like...I discovered FOR MYSELF how majestic / grand / powerful a body of work this album really was and always shall be among their canon of work, confessing only that it *did*, as I recall, require about 4 or 5 months of steady play for it to Truly sink in. (But aren't ALL our favorite releases that way???) P.S. I also own the live "Entreat" release of the Cure playing this album from start to finish IN 1989....I implore the listener to have a listen to the live version of the song Disintegration proper off of this release...it is a SUBLIME rendering...

I actually think Head on the Door is their best album.
