You wanted to hear about other people's installations.... so here is mine: I have a 39' Landmark 5th wheel. It has a 50amp service. I purchased this RV to park up at my property where I spend much of the Spring/Summer/Fall. I still work full-time so I need to have access to a reliable internet source. For this reason I purchased a 10-acre parcel up in the mountains of Utah near Strawberry Reservoir. There is a cell tower 1700 feet from my property... which means I get super-fantastic internet speeds anywhere in my property.... OK... now to the fun stuff: I have a Growatt 5k 48v inverter tied to 15,465 whr 48v battery bank with 8 455watt bi-facial panels. The Growatt 5k inverter is tied to an external transformer which takes the 240vAC output of the Growatt to 2-120vAC legs.... similar to what a split-phase inverter does EXCEPT with the added benefit of allowing 5kw being drawn from each leg. As you know, a Spit-phase inverter allows only (assuming a 5kw inverter is being used) 2500 watts on each leg. The Growatt does not have this limitation. The end result is that I can run every AC component in my Landmark with no issues. I haven't connected a welder to it, but I suspect that I could use a small welder anyway. Since I have the RV parked and it is not moving anywhere I have the 8 solar panels in a wooden frame that is permanently mounted on the ground. EAch panel is 80" x 40" so you can imagine the size of the structure. Since the panels are BIFACIAL I have white rock below the panel structure which allows light to reflect from the rocks to the underside of the panels, giving me a 10-15% additional wattage. Net result: 8 x 455 watts = 3640watts + 15% = 4186 watts. The Growatt inverter passes all this juice into my RV without the need of using my 15,465whr battery bank... and then when the sun goes down I don't need the AC, but I do run a fan and my C-Pap machine all night long, in addition to watching TV when we want to. Just thought I'd share.
For the selling all the 'stuff' in the house, what I did was hire an Estate Sale (more commonly used by relatives after a family member has passed) company. They came over, explained everything and agreed on a percentage and 2 sale days. Then they showed up on a Friday, walked through and priced everything. They had advertised the sale and had a few 'regulars' that came by and bought/reserved items in advance (even the Estate Sale owner bought a couple things lol), had a sale Saturday and Sunday, then Sunday night everything was gone. Got a check on Monday. A bit traumatic experience going from everything to (practically) nothing but, like ripping off a bandaide, within a couple days the FREEDOM I felt was AMAZING.
Great show thanks Josh.. I've known Mark since high-school and seen the changes in his life even when he when he showed me a picture of Liz saying; I'm marrying this one.. Lol... Mark has always been ambitious and creative there pretty much my extended family.. I look forward Checking out your videos and great video that you put together..
Hi Joshua, You are a really cool nice guy. I also seen your video with Tom enjoy the journey life an excellent video really informative you have done a lot of cool interesting things. Elizabeth you play the harp beautifully. I wish you both all the best. Gob bless 🙏
I love all these ideas for solar! I’ll never have that much on my rig, but the idea is cool! The only thing I have to say negative is Mr. cowboy, you need to figure out a microphone situation! Because 3/4 of the time we can barely hear you! And everyone else sounds perfect
Great video on what is possible! I sure hope you get the audio figured out. Amazing Mark can weld off of his battery and solar! Great update to the RV power system.
We are one of those unlucky people who lost a solar panel. We had our system put in at the NRVTA and it flew off in the first mile pulling out. A good Samaritan flagged us down. We had no idea! You can see that on our TH-cam Channel! Enjoyed this video so much! Thank you!
Im sorry to har that. Not the first time I have heard this from others. It's definitely a fear of mine. Our first 100 miles after our first instal I think I pulled over 20 times. Every time I heard a sound or felt a bump.
Hi Joshua, Great work. I am in the market for a new solar panel set up. But feel that im not educated yet on solar panel. Would you put together a video for people to understand solar. Thanks GREAT CHANNEL!!!!
Dear Paul if you would consider it I have a great idea to engineer more panels for your roof you simply build a lean to hanging on bCk of rv with bracket mounting hardware and because your boondocks put stilts under roof when you lift it up ..worked great for metL roofs in the oilfield
Great video. I learned some things and will be working them into our 390rk that we just bought. Keep up the great work. I love that you are keeping things real and down to earth.
Loved this video! Very encouraging to see the out of the box creativity coming off the paper and into use. We are working on our 22' travel trailer right now upgrading our solar -doubling what we had - before hitting the road for a trip to the Grand Tetons and Utah in a month. This video gave us some good food for thought. We hope to meet you on the road some day. Safe travels and look forward to future videos.
We have a 2021 Imagine 2670MK need to upgrade the battery system. I was gonna start out with (2) 6v Leoch AGM batteries and a 200 watt Renology Suite Case panel. So what would be the next step if we wanted to go further. Are you talking lithium with inverter or? Thanks and good luck with the chanel!!
Wow. Nice interview! We have had our RV for a year and have not yet put solar on it.. maybe this year we will work on it. Thank you for all your knowledge you all shared.
Haven’t bought solar or batteries yet for the grand design just starting to look into how we can make our Grand design into something more self sufficient. We have one solar panel that came on it with 2 batteries we got a long way to go!
Thanks for all the info on your extraordinary power solution. Just ordered a Enduro 200 Amp Hr Battery for our Class C. Took a while but finally located a charger conversion for our EFCO panel. Considering adding a 400 Watt Solar Kit / jury is still out. Thanks again !
Great video & info , curious about your tow vehicle & weight of your 5th wheel ? ? ? Payload & towing capacity, diesel vs gas vehicle & dually ? ? Thx 👍
Wonderful tour of an ingenious system. It was almost as awesome as your own rig! Off subject: I have listened to harp music when I was much younger, but I remembered it being relaxing & mesmerizing. Does Elizabeth have any videos or recordings we can sample? Back on subject: I'm excited to see more videos of putting a similar solar system together.
Love all the info! We're ready to retire and are working on understanding all we need to get DONE before transitioning to renting out our house and moving into a RV similar to yours. Solar is very important to us, but we don't yet understand enough lingo. Feedback on video - We love how well done your video editing is and the music. However, when the camera bounces we both got motion sick, but we figure you'll figure this part out as y'all are so talented. Another thing is when the music plays over someone talking, we both had problems understanding what was said, or when you were talking near background noise. Keep up the good work though! We've subscribed and look forward to learning more from you and others. Thanks for taking the time and effort to share what you've learned.
What you could do is add a 2nd (Smaller) inverter for critical loads (Refrigerator, CPAP, Network, etc) and leave your current inverter for the rest of the load (Allowing you to turn off the larger inverter)
looking forward to more. fyi, please work on your sound levels and base volume. it was hard to follow some of the conversation and your volume level was below+ the base volume of the majority of my videos watched today
Great video I have a older camper 34 foot 5th wheel the people that bought it new did same thing you're doing I put solar on it and I get people ask where my generator taking it to big races
Nice content on this video. I love these expanded solar/battery/inverter setups. I'm tired of seeing the simple 12 volt systems with 4/0 cables. I'm also interested in getting the 240 volt transformer option for accessories. I would like to know more about Joshua's setup. Thank you.
Remember, Ohms law says that if you raise the voltage, you don't have to carry as many amps. This means that moving from 12v to 48v means that you can drop the size of the wire thereby the cost of the installation.
@@KennethLongcrier I've chatted with many high power users who simply refuse to abandon 12v for anything higher. I did, and it's so much easier to work with. Simple 48->12 converter back for the coach's needs and you're in business. Combiner boxes and big wire for solar? Nope, not me. One single 2-conductor cable does the job in series.
Excellent tour! I'm so envious of that battery &electric setup. I wonder if you couldn't swap out that rear window in your rig, so long as the size matches = )
Congrats on your channel, 2 video's and 2250 subscribers! I spent $24000 for a professional installed system. I have 2400 watts on the rv roof, two magnum inverters and 10 battleborn batteries (1000 amp hours). I wish I had the information you had when you did yours. You have a subscriber, we have a channel but its very small. Wwe have boondocked on farms in the south, hope to do some on BLM land this summer, hope to see out there.
Increasing carry capacities 🤔 did you upgrade your frame on the trailer? Usually your capacities at the end of the are are limited by the engineering of the frame at the root so I’m curious how you did this.
Nice work on the video, but how come the guy you interviewing has a much better sound quality then you? Looks like you might gave him a microphone and didn't have one for yourself. Anyone who participates should have one, in my opinion. You fix that and you’re a golden success. The things you do is what will attract the subscribers, rare content which is what you have. I’m hooked! Good luck!
Quite difficult to hear your comments to his explanation for their system. You need to turn up your microphone to a similar level as him, or get a separate mic for you both.
Wow! Some truly amazing mods to your rig! (from the two tour videos) I have a question about getting started with solar. Towards the end of the second “tour”, Harrison mentioned the first thing to do is “create a baseline” to evaluate current and future requirements by using a battery monitoring device. I’ve been looking at the Victron Smart Shunt for starters, just to measure current usage. Any thoughts there? Would that work to provide the baseline I’m looking for?
I'm fully remodeling my toy hauler would like to talk to you about your input on what I am doing i went with eg4 12000watt inverter 9900watts of solar 1120ah 48 volt lithium batteries
Since im a fan i kinda wanna make you a custom keyboard. I'll do that next month since i will be broke after i finish the boards im working on now... but i really wanna make you guys a custom keyboard.
No he did not and we have even more panels on ours without reinforcement. However our install includes 4 rows of brackets (unistrut) that are bolted down every 12 inches. This is tying together our ceiling joists along the whole rig. Then everything else is bolted to that.
I think it would be an excellent idea for you to show people when you're cooking. I would certainly appreciate it as I'm not that great a cook I'm good but you seem to be excellent based on a video I watched you on. There is no question in my mind, that if you video yourself cooking on that smoker your subscriber base will increase exponentially. FYI-volume when you speak not your interviewee is low. By the way, liked and subscribed.
The welder setup is awesome! Loved that! The welding on the tailgate and burning holes through the bedliner and setting it on fire was killing me though!!!

I gotta tell you, for someone who does TH-cam for a living, your sound really sucked on this video. Have you listened to yourself? When you have someone mic-ed and you are not close to the person it is very difficult to hear you. I know what you are saying is probably important, but if the audience can't hear you then what's the point?. If you go the length and width of your rv you can put way more panels on and relocate ladder to side of rv
Very well done, all four of you! I was hooked from beginning to end, thank you.
Looks like one inch pollyiso foam glued to the inside of the battery bay door could help with heat/cold, cheap and easy
Wicked informative! Thank you!
Roof on back of rv is put on with piano hinges heavy duty of course but very strong... and under roof had tube slots for stilts to fit in...
