Mine broke randomly. I had to buy a replacement from Precision Matthews because it was past the warranty. Can't live without a DRO if you've gotten used to using one. It's a must have.

robotech - Yes, got used to it pretty fast and hard to be without it now. Thanks for the comment.

Glad you got this fixed. Pretty much what I expected. On my lathe, I mounted the magnetic scale facing down rather than sideways, and after 6 years, I haven't had an issue like this.

Best Services - Thanks for the comment and offering any their solution. If this becomes a recurring issue I may try that.

Do you clean up with compressed air?
A chip that big should not be about to get around the cover from the top, so most likely it came in from the bottom

@@joshua43214 Thanks for the comment. I rarely used compressed air on the lathe. Also the only time it has happened in 4 years. I did an early project the hubs video on my channel and had piles of chips so I think not happened then.

Yea be careful with steel chips getting in... steel is magnetic so it will affect the reading. Even if it was not magnetic the fact that there's a chip it may cause it to miss a reading... I noticed with the magnetic DRO scale apart from the cover there isn't much else protecting the scale from chips. On a glass scale the scale itself is inside a U shaped channel with a rubber gasket thing basically keeping anything from getting in, then there's another cover that keeps chips out. I've never had any problems with it at all as it's quite hard to get chips into it.

Tyler Fu - Thanks for the comment. May have to work on the cover if this becomes a recurring problem.
