This version is 'the' version of this lovely love ballad; Mr. Baur's beautiful lyric tenor voice fits the music as a perfect glove.
Thank you for all your great comments Dennis.
One of this most beautiful versions of this love ballad!
I too love this song....baur is superb here. wonderful. thank you so much.
Wonderful!! I love Franklyn Baur!!
Check out my newest post, it has several Baur numbers in it. I have quite a few of his recordings.
My day has just ended, and in such a lovely way with your beautiful clip of one of my favorite songs and definitely one of my favorite vocalists!! Thank you, Bob!
This song is so beautiful. It is timeless, and Franklyn Baur's sympathetic treatment of it is awesome.
Thank you for sharing this gem.
Beautiful song, beautifully sung. Thanks for posting.
@olderngod
Many more to come from this great singer. He seems to be a favorite of many.
It is so sad how this sensitive, lyric tenor ended his days...almost in totally forgotten except for his numerous recordings!
A sweet rendition of this old classic. Wonderful. What a fine tenor he had, and the ability to hit that beautiful high note at the end.
Thanks for this

Good one Pax. Right to favorites.
Here Mr. Baur is accompanied by the wonderful Victor Salon Orchestra; a really beautiful disc.
Bob, thank you so much, it's very sweet of you! I definitely enjoy it. This is my favorite torch song that means so much to me, and Baur's performance is so touching & delicate.... I've always loved both the melody & the lyrics of this song - they go so well together. I don't know what the original German lyrics were like but I think that the English are amazing. There's another verse that's often omitted. I know that some crooners sang it (Sinatra, Como).
Jesse C's instrumental of it is great!
Another wonderful Baur discovery, thank you!
made cry
I'm aware of the trip to Europe, his study, and the Town Hall concert. I recall the review I read as polite but not enthusiastic. I'm unaware of any recordings after his work with the major companies ended about 1930. He was only 26 years old.
Classy Treatment from Mr Baur ..!
A truly beautiful ballad. Thank you for this posting.
Amazing song! I remember this from my grandfather being played a lot in his house:) Also I dedicate this song to my ex girlfriend :(
I understand Baur spent over a year studying voice and French art songs in Paris in the early 1930's. And this was followed on his return to NYC with a recital at Town Hall on December 4, 1933, during which he performed works by Debussy and others. Do you know if any recordings of these French songs exist? They would be fascinating to hear. Sincere thanks for all of your Baur uploads!
wonderfully done thanks for posting
+brent g Glad to share it with you Brent
Thanks: Brain needed this one.
BRAVO!!
Just now am realizing how much Baur sounds like John McCormack....esp. the way he pronounces the words....slight roll of the r's.
@mayatatyana1
I will be and may re-do some of my earlier posts that have poor sound.
@VTMCompany
so many good ones it is hard to pick but I do like his vocals with just the piano too
@mayatatyana1
You are quite welcome and thank you for watching.
Another bit of trivia. The "Madonna" song was brought to Whiteman''s attention in Vienna by then-newspaper reporter Billy Wilder.
@Masquerade03
Thank you and how are things in sunny Spain?
@genatzvalee
