Oh my god, such memories from the golden age of ghazals! From Rochester to New York to New Jersey, I did not miss a single concert by the 3 great masters - Jagjit Singh, Mehdi Hassan and Ghulam Ali and several others like Munni Begum etc.
I also lived in NJ and worked in Long Island, NY - Weekend commute back and forth via verrazano bridge was in the company of the same three maestros ♥️♥️♥️ Even today when I hear “Kehna Usey” album by Mehdi Hassan sa’ab - penned by Shayar Farhat Shahzad - I feel I am driving on Belt Pkwy ☺️
Back in those days Urdu was pronounced properly by these greats. Now even most popular singers have no idea and don’t care how to correctly pronounce the words. People have come to accept Gaj instead of gaz.
That’s the problem. Same goes for the audience. All the time, I hear people saying Fir ye hua, Fir wo hua. I wish someone would just pass a law saying you must say PHir when speaking Hindi-Urdu, but unfortunately, it’s been accepted.

Absolutely adore this ghazal but had difficulty understanding the meaning until I found the following translation in english - would be interested to know the poet who wrote such a soul evoking meaningful song I have made promises by the river which I will patiently try to keep. You alone understand their measures. In the golden rainfall beauty became blessed, its falling and rising an occasion. Covered like the morning dew glory burns not as a flower garden but as light making the rose dewy. Passion comes alive and becomes full in Your eyes that bathes all that is. Within the smoke from the heart rises and passes. In Your hold is the kingship of the world. Such desire could turn all vanity into gardens. Within Your every glance a rose blossomed and within every move seasons changed. Your tortured face hidden underneath locks reveals a morning that is enveloped in sleep. And on this are Your charms made known. How can the heart fulfill its promises now? Only blood stained will is both its image and belief. Evil must be denied make as we will to change the world into praise.
I have no idea who told you this is the translation (or even the theme -- or meaning ) of this song .. but what you have written is plain gibberish. The opening line reads " bartender -- you are bound by the oath of generosity -- that you will keep the 'rounds of drinks' flowing " -- that one patron keeps rising and other falling as they get drunk .. And - that "sirf shabnam hee shan-e-gulistan nahin' . -- that only dew shouldn't be the beauty of the garden -- but fire and brim should be celebrated too -- as tears keep dropping from ever wet eyes .. fire keeps burning from the heart .. etc. etc. etc. .

I found the following translation in english - would be interested to know the poet who wrote such a soul evoking meaningful song

I have no idea who told you this is the translation (or even the theme -- or meaning ) of this song .. but what you have written is plain gibberish.
The opening line reads " bartender -- you are bound by the oath of generosity -- that you will keep the 'rounds of drinks' flowing " -- that one patron keeps rising and other falling as they get drunk ..
And - that "sirf shabnam hee shan-e-gulistan nahin' . -- that only dew shouldn't be the beauty of the garden -- but fire and brim should be celebrated too -- as tears keep dropping from ever wet eyes .. fire keeps burning from the heart .. etc. etc. etc. .

Sirf (only) Shabnam (dew ) hee shan-e-gulistan (pride of garden [Gul -- flower -- istan .. where they are i.e. garden) nahin .. (isn't)
Shola (a fire) -o- gul ( a simlie . flower of fire) . ka bee daur (round of) chalta rahe (should continue) ..
Ashq bhi (tears too) Chashm-e-pur-num (Chashm ..eyes pur num -wet -- ie. from wet eyes ) se behte rahen ( keep flowing)
Aur Dil (heart) se Dhuan (smoke) bhee niklta rahe (should exit from) .. (i.e. one's heart's yearing / burning-passion should continue ) ..
Tere Chehre (Chehra - face) Zulf (hair) Bikrhi hui (your hair covering part of your face)
Neend ki gode main subha nikhri hui .. as if morning is expressing itself in the lap of sleep .. (not a very strong line .. but I guess this is trying to show the beauty)
Aur us pe sitm ye a adayen teri ( on top of it .. your expressions .. movement "adayen" has no direct translation)
Dil hai akhir khan tak sambhalta rahe ( how long can one control one's the (heart) passion) ..
Tere Kabze (in your control) main hai yeh nizame-zahan ( order of this world .. universe . i.e. you are my whole world ... )
Too jo (If you) chahe (desire) toh sehra (desert) bane (will become) Gulsitan ( garden )
Har Nazar (on [your ] every glance) pe teri phool kilhte rahen (flowers keep blossoming )
Har Ishare (on [your] every gesture ) pe mausum ( means weather -- but it's a loaded world .. here it means ambiance) badlta rahe (keep changing)
