I have owned one for ten years and I have never successfully filled it with petrol without someone approaching me to talk about the car. I am used to driving it and its great in the corners. I see thumbs up all the time and people waving at me and smiling, so yes people just love the car.
Great video. I have one also. An 81. I'm the 3rd owner. The first owner has owned it since 81, the second owner bought it in early 1999, but only for half a year and then I bought in 1999 and have owned it since then, only has 12,000 miles and has a BAE Turbo, black interior, 160 MPH speedometer and mine has the gas flap. Love this car! Only paid $15,000 for her back in 1999.
I’ve driven one as my daily car for more than 5 years in the same spec as this car- 5-speed with gray interior. Mine’s an 83. I’ve found it comfortable, practical, reliable, and economical. I’m 6’-1” and my head never touches the ceiling. There are a lot of straight-forward updates that make the car safer, a better performer, and more reliable. If you get the Eibach suspension, the height lowers and drives nicely through the canyons.
@@Garagetopics I'm horribly anti-social so owning a delorean would probably be a nightmare for me. I hear having one makes you feel like a celebrity.... in the worst way. Fools honking at you constantly in traffic, you leave the grocery store and find weird, geeky guys surrounding your vehicle, everyone constantly asking if they can drive it, ride in it, etc.
DeLoreans were pretty cool back in the day but they really did not have a good reputation as a reliable car. The fact that you got it in pretty much OEM condition and garaged is amazing.
The reasons DeLorean's can be Unreliable is the idiot owners who do half ass work, jerry rigged fixes and simply not driving them enough. I been around these cars for 35 years, owner of 20 years and been daily driving my car for over 10 years. Still running K-Jet also and YET never broke down once!! Get 30 mpg in 5th gear at 70mph. Been to 126mph easily! I baby and beat the piss out of this car but yet never fails as I dont fear it ever will. Is a DeLorean reliable? Depends on you.
Sweet! I like the way you approach things with no bias and see cars for what they are - interesting hobbies. Awesome that you were in a position to own this and pass it along. Looking forward to what the proceeds will be funding!
Found your channel with an 04 Tundra. I just did your whole suspension rebuild, plus. I bought the truck new in March 2004. It came out great!! You gave me the direction/blueprint to do it.. Appreciate it.
I went to school in Twinbrook Belfast in the 90s where this was built. I could see the test track from outside my English Lit class. As a BTTF fan it was pretty cool.
You should note, there were three hoods - Gas Flap, Grooved, and Smooth. You have the grooved hood, and that's the one most people want (it was the one in BTTF) Nice Find!
In spring 1982 I was looking to buy a new car. My final choices were a 1982 Datsun 280zx, 2 + 2, black with tan leather interior and T tops, or a Delorean. The 280zx was $18,000 and the Delorean was around $24,000. In 1982, the interest rate on cars was 13%. I liked the Delorean, but as he said for buyers the main concern was reliability and repair costs. Also, the monthly payment on the 280zx was $485 per month for 4 years. The Delorean would have been closer to $650 per month. While that may seem cheap now, back then my house payment including insurance and property taxes were around $600 per month. I choose the 280zx and i never regretted it. I had it for 8 years and drove 200,000 miles without major problems (air conditioning breaking was the only problem). It was reliable and routine maintenance was relatively inexpensive. It was only after the Back to the Future movies, that my desire for a Delorean increased. Before then, the Delorean was only an unusual, sporty car, but without the glamour it later got.
I am determined to acquire a DeLorean DMC-12 before I turn 35. I intend to paint it black and add electroluminescent green decals. Also a trailer hitch, aux port, Flux Capacitor, and maybe also a green Larson Scanner.
have you ever done a video on your story ? would love to know how a young bloke from Australia ended up working for Holley in the US. glad your channel popped up in my timeline - had been looking for it for yonks .. subscribed and sorted 🍻🤘🇦🇺
The doors operate off a torsion bar and gas strut for final assist. I own a dmc 12, and have also worked on a bricklin. They door systems are totally different with bricklins being inferior. Getting into a bricklin was annoying as the seats are really deep down in there as well and you really do have to fall into it

I'll miss that about the car. It made people very happy which was awesome
21 years and counting for me
That would be such a thrill for me but unfortunately I can't afford one ..

I really wish I could go back in time to buy a brand new Delorean, but then I realized I need a fucking Delorean to go back in time.
Actually, there is a company in Texas that bought all the delorean parts and has enough parts to build brand new cars
Soooo….do the full size windows go down? Or just the small cut outs?

That's awesome! I would have loved to get the suspension stance right on this car, but I'm sure the next owner can have that satisfaction

All that you have said is accurate
how much was it? How many milage did it have when you bought it?

That's exactly why I bought it! It was in such good shape. It's definitely more of a piece of art than a car, IMO
@@Garagetopics I just saw one of the new Tesla tucks this past week on the road for the first time. It kind of looks like a Delorean.

Thanks for the kind words! Got some big things in the works 😎
I wish new cars were this cool
In a perfect world this car would be put in production again with more suitable internals. God I hope I manage to get one of these one day.
there were rumors of delorean coming back to make electric cars
I hope the gas entry ins't in the pilot cabin anymore xD.

Your Delorean was the 4819th made. The ending of the vin started at 500. Still an early model from the first year.

Bill Haddad was an employee of DMCL, not JZD's attorney.
Club Dirty Freshest! Enjoying it and moving on totally makes sense. Looking forward to what’s next!
Thanks!!
You're so lucky my friend, I have wanted one my whole life..

Please don't
Another Note - Those are original fuel lines - replace them right away. It's pretty cheap and easy.

I don't think I have! This is a good idea, ill add it to the list. Thanks!
I read Hard Driving DeLoreans attorney. Great Reed
Nice!!
Shout out from 4885 Oct. 1981! Cheers!
what size are the front and rear tires?
Is the spare’s wheel a turbine?
I worked on a Bricklen people would open gullwing doors without unlatching and break them 😂😢

Saludos. Amigo.
If you will own a Delorean, you have to search. If you have one, you and many other people will like it. If you sell it. like me, you will miss it.
Anyone selling a delorean? I’m really Interested in getting one.
Oh so happy to be the 88th liker of your video!
