Adding MULLIONS to your Windows

  • Often windows have mullions.. especially in Residential construction. They can be tricky to build when you are using full 3D modeling for the mullions.
This Revit Tip shows how simple Model Lines can be used and still convey the number of divided lites you want to show for a particular window without crowding out the model.
I hope this helps you when moving forward with adding mullions/muntins to a window.

Awesome video demonstrating how a simple model line conveys what it needs to convey in an elevation view. The model lines illustrate the muntin pattern without exhausting countless hours modeling 3D muntins that will never show up in an elevation view. Your step-by-step tutorial showed me exacting what I needed.😊

I'm sure someone will notice that I had one of my dimension strings attached to the wrong place. If you didn't notice it... go watch the video again and see if you can find where I made the simple mistake. =)

yeah, but model lines don't render. Thanks for the info, though.

Problem with model lines...they don’t render. Can you do the same with a filled region or zero thickness extrusion?

You are correct... they won’t render. If you need an object that will render... add a mullion (true 3D) to the model lines IN the window family. You can use the approach I used for my ‘board & batten’ video. Should work fine.
