    Fantaaaaaaaaaaaaaaastic video! Thank you sir! can you do a video on how to set up a customized template for maybe a new office new to use revit.

    • @miketaylor8211
      @miketaylor8211  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Creating a new office template is what every company needs to do when they start using Revit. That video would the a looooooong video. My suggestions: 1) Use Revit on your first project. Copy the project file. Open the copy and go to 3D and delete the model. Save this now as your Office Template. Any adjustments you made to items (model elements and annotation elements, and all settings) will now be in your template. This is a good way to start. -OR- 2) You could always hire me to make you a template. =) Working to help companies be productive in Revit is my job! :D (See links in any video description.)

    Question: structural engineers usually specify the thickness of the thickened footing as the dimension from the top of the slab to the bottom of the footing (not from the bottom of the slab to the bottom of the footing as you do in your video). How can I set up a parameter with a mathematical equation, so that the thickness of the footing extrusion shape is calculated depending on inputs for the slab thickness and the total thickness from top of slab to bottom of footing?

  • @emilcapati6700

    hi can you make a video on how to put slope on a slab when you get a chance? (Like slope for drainage in the middle of a room)

    • @miketaylor8211
      @miketaylor8211  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Will do. Sloping a slab is done a couple of different ways. There is a slope arrow available while editing the outline sketch, and there are also tools for warping/sloping the slab after it’s in place.

    This is something very interesting I've been dealing with, but at the same time I have an issue and I don't know why it happens sometimes on some projects and sometimes not, the issue is that when I need to show not the top of the thickened slab as hidden, the engineer wants to show the bottom part as hidden.... that makes me crazy, sometimes I can use the line work and sometimes not....
    How can we deal with this?

    Thank you for sharing wonderful videos!! Can you make a fake window?? I want to decorate the exterior with windows but I don't need the sun from outside.

    • @miketaylor8211
      @miketaylor8211  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Saki: Two ways to do what you suggest. 1. Use Filled regions and Detail lines on the Elevations. You can make a fake window and make it into a group and copy it. 2. You can use real 3D windows, but set the glass to not be transparent (opaque). That way the light won't get in. Those are my two suggestions. =)

    Mike, How would you fix Stair?.... the Stair has 2 disconnected landing at the middle....... A U-Stiar where the landing was devided in to 2 to add riser.... Now its disconnected. how would you fix it?

    Hi, how to add the width and thickness parameters in the slab edge family in Revit 2023 ? Every time I need to create a new family as per the slab edge dimensions as there is no option to change the width and thickness.

    • @miketaylor8211
      @miketaylor8211  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Great suggestion.. Let me see if I can get a Revit Tip up about that! It will most likely be a TYPE parameter, but that is OK with me.

    Hi Mike, one silly question, how can I turn the thickening family to 'concrete' material. I can't make it join the with the slab as they are different material. Thanks

  • @johnwallace5284
    @johnwallace5284 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Do you know how to unjoin slab edges? Im stuck really bad thanks

    • @miketaylor8211
      @miketaylor8211  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      When the slab edges are created at the same time.. they union automatically. If they are made separately, you can select them and pull the endpoints (blue dot) together until they touch. You can also try using the ALIGN tool. One of those usually works for me.
      Also, you could try ‘join geometry’ if they are overlapping.

    Another tip, work in wireframe and you won't buffer

    • @miketaylor8211
      @miketaylor8211  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks, but I need to show the items in Revit 'solid'. I found that if I reduce the screen resolution... most of the buffering stops. Thanks for the tip!

    can install rebars with this family????i tried but cannot from my end

    • @miketaylor8211
      @miketaylor8211  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think because the new family is a generic family it doesn’t accept rebar. I guess you could install rebar in the slab and then move it down into place.
