Thanks, much needed added info into how these fuel pumps work! I replaced all my lines and the fuel pump and then I started having issues with it stalling on the trail as if a clogged fuel filter. Turns out it as a stuck diaphragm based on your intel. Thanks again!
Vapor Lock. Happened a lot to cars back in the day. Gas line gets hot, fuel vaporizes in the line, creates a positive pressure and prevents normal flow of anything. Can also wrap the line loosely with aluminum foil over the area that gets hot. Good to know about the pump. A lot like an outboard motor.
It would seem the pulse pump is designed as a safety shut off to stop the flow of fuel to the carb when the engine is not running to prevent needle and seat leakage of fuel into the engine in the event you leave the manual fuel shut off valve on for any length of time like during storage? Anyway I just ordered my 3rd pulse pump 2010 500 HO. Each time the machine was running great then it just ran out fuel in the carb bowl. Each time replacing the pump (about every 6 yrs) solved the problem. Someone posted that you can run a hose directly from the tank to the carb. Wish I had seen that earlier. Anyways thanks for the informative video.
Great video. Helped me out tremendously. I didn't have a syringe. But I found that a TURKEY BASTER works perfect to simulate the pulse from the carb! Turns out my fuel pump is fine. My pulse line from the carb is also fine. Must be something in the carb. Any insight there?
Need help following the fuel lines from the tank and the one that feeds into the same area the front right shock on mine is pouring fuel out when i fill the tank with fuel what could this be?
Where is the fuel coming from, like the carb or the lines? If the carb, it's more than likely a stuck float. If it's coming from the lines, it could be the fuel shutoff is open or broken. The other thing is that if it's coming (seeping from the housing)from the pump, then it's the seals and just replace the pump. Now, the fuel from the tank to the pump and its passing through the pump while not running is normal in a way due to gravity and temperature, the pump makes sure that there is ample fuel flow to the carb, some people have run fine with the pump failing and not know until they are on an incline and then stall and sputters. Hope this helps, if you need anything else just ask. if you want to check the pump, this is the video of disassembly of it th-cam.com/video/p583fdOzhhg/w-d-xo.html&ab_channel=HappyBadgervideos
Y’all do know you can by pass that little shit and run fuel strait from the tank to the carb. Just put a connector between the tank and carb lines and walla it will run like a top.
Usually, I would think that your line coming from the carb to the pump has a hole in it. To test, if you have a minimax hand vac pump, take the line to the pump and disconnect it and place the tip of the pump there and turn the sled over a few times and see it fluctuates. if not, remove the line and test the line. Plug the one end of the line and pump the vac and see if holds and if not then it could be the line. Also, a way to test the line without a vac tester, you can disconnect the line and put your finger over the tip of the line and see if it pulls on your finger (while cranking for a few sec) and hear a hiss. Now, an issue with carb could be dirty and could be an issue, but rare. Most of the time I see it's the line has a leak somewhere and also if the tubes are older than 5 years with a lot of weather age. Hope this helps, let me know if you need any more help?
@@jetzombie thanks man did help ended up finding old watery gas down the pusle line, completely clogged need a new fuel pump and have to drain the bottom end and hopefully good to go thanks again!
I have just pulled my 05 500 HO in the garage, it just started sputtering when I attempted to accelerate? Sputter, backfire, but if I was gentle on the throttle, it acts fine? The second I get past 1/4 throttle... sputter sputter backfire? One thing I noticed is the fuel line coming from what looks like the bottom of fuel tank ways has a "drip" on it? The garage smells strongly of fuel, but it's been that way since I brought it home (2 weeks ago) and it just now acted up. This is the first video I watched when I saw the thumbnail. Am I looking in the wrong place? Thanks.
Maybe the tank hose connection is not clamped tight enough. When, the fuel demand could cause air to seep in and screw up the flow to the carb. Also, I've had the fuel shutoff valves have junk in them, also check for an inline filter too. Then maybe at the worst the carb jets could be dirty to and need to be cleaned.
I have a 99 500. The cam is good. But it won't go over 20-25 mph. The carb was rebuilt. It won't pull hills and it dosen't skip bog or backfire. It cranks and runs smoothly. It idles great. Im on my last limb with this thing. I just can figure out whats wrong with it!!
If the engine is good. Then, check the hoses, fuel cap( to see if its not venting), recheck the carb to see if the jets are blocked or something else like the float stuck close. If the pump is flowing good to the carb at gravity then the tank vent is okay.
@@jetzombie I put a brand new carb and fuel pump on it yesterday but I still have to put it all back together to see if it fixed it. Hopefully in the next 2 weeks I'll have time for it.
Thank you just what I was looking for to check pump
Glad it helped.

Puchski1, I glad the video helped you. The same thing happened with my 400 HO a while ago and that's how I figured it was the pump.
Very timely in my case. Saved me a bunch of time troubleshooting.
That is great to hear.
Thank you from Jefferson County 👍🏻
You are very welcomed.

Anytime.
Thanks man I’m new to this and this vid help a lot you got a new subscriber
You are more than welcomed.
Good video, good eplaining. Why could not show proces?
The only syringe I had the time had just failed :).
Great video! Thanks
Trank you.
"go ahead and...", or "went ahead and..." It's a real tic you've got there, bud. Very helpful video though.
I'm not a camera person, it makes me nervous.
:)
great vid. Im only getting a small amount of fuel at the carb. it is comming out in pulses but i guess any gas would mean the FP is working
I could be just a gravity trickle. Test the the pump would be the best way.

Glad it helped!, I could be the float is stuck, after it set for a little while I've had the float stick.

Yeapper!!!
you can also have a hard diaphragm.
weak action.
the pulse pumps need to be replaced every 5-8 years.
Gotcha!
You can also check the health of the diaphragm if you have the fancy vacuum tool, no need for a syringe!
Yeapper, I used that too.
That’s what I used. Worked like a charm
Hey man my sled doesnt have a pulse coming from he pulse line what do you think it is?

Thanks for the video I narrowed my son's problem down to the fuel pump, but I'm not sure if it doesn't work or it's just stuck?
Did it work?
@jetzombie I replaced the fuel pump and it still won't run right
How good is the carb?
@jetzombie It has a new carburetor but we couldn't get it running right
was it a knock off pump, I find if it's not a true nik carb they don't run good.

Got a magnum that is running out of fuel.
check the fuel cutoff.
Mine doesn’t ha w fuel flow 😬
You tank pitcok
Explain more.
Ethanol in the gas will kill these older pumps.
That's so true and no real good additive out there that can displace it.
