  • Making a guitar from scratch using some new techniques to get a unique and customizable pattern on the face. The guitar body is made from solid mahogany with a layer of white acrylic, an inkjet printout and covered in epoxy. The resin epoxy coating is then polished to a perfect mirror finish using the Norton Liquid Ice buffing system. This guitar build is part of the 2022 Great Guitar Build Off Invitational and will be raffled off to benefit my charity of choice, Small Steps in Speech.

    Man, I was sitting there watching you sand, and singing..."Sand in the place where you live...." and then I was like, oh no! David missed it, then BAM it snuck up on me! I feel like pavlov's dog hearing that in my head every time I sand, or see someone else sand...Long story short, great video as always!

    The cutout left after the body was cut out is pretty cool itself!
    Could mount on a wall as some decor.
    It's clearly a guitar body, so would make good music themed deco

    Aaaaaaaand since I don’t have a laser, I used a magnifying glass and the sun!
    It was great watching how your mind worked trying new things. Very inspiring!!
    Also fun to watch you and Kelly playing music together!
    BTW: if you’re disqualified from the competition, I will have the AAYTDD file a formal complaint.

    It is insane how the simplest scribble can be 'graphicked-to-death' to make complex/random patterns using just about any art software. I call it digital doodling and I could fill a harddrive with design alternatives generated from just a single pattern. Your guitar face [I'm a Brit btw] makes me think of 1950's retro diners that I see in many films & TV. It is therefore absolutely fit-for-purpose playing rock'n'roll!

    Great build! I used to be a guitar builder and you did a great job. Only thing I would say is to use threaded inserts on the next joint instead of wood screws (you didnt show it so maybe you did). Also instead of changing the body thickness and adding carves for weight reduction, you can chamber the body before glueing the top on and it will give you an amazing tone too! Love the video mate, keep it up :)

  • @coregeek
    @coregeek ปีที่แล้ว

    I’ve been building guitars for a couple years now. That turned out really good looking. If you ever do another with a two piece body you can save a lot of weight by chambering (routing out the non essential areas) on the inside of the back before you glue on the top. Love the music too! Cheers.

    When I used to cut thicker material on the CNC I'd do multiple passes with shorter endmills and then use the longer endmill after I had already removed about half of the material. Then you can do a finishing pass with the longer endmill if you want to remove any lines caused by the different length endmills. The finishing pass would help cut down on sanding time. You inset your final/finishing pass by less than a 16th of an inch.
