    STORY
    In this captivating documentary, we explore the history of an abandoned house in upstate New York, which was once a place of love, laughter, and cherished memories. Built by a Jewish family many decades ago, it stood as a symbol of their success and prosperity.
    But in 2018, tragedy struck when a devastating fire tore through the home, waking the family in the middle of the night and leaving their lives' work in flames before their eyes. As the smoke cleared, the family realized that they could never return to the house. The damage was too extensive, and the structure was no longer safe to inhabit.
    Now, the house stands as a haunting reminder of what once was, with all the memories of the former owners remaining inside. In this documentary, we delve into the lives of the family before disaster struck and explore the treasures left behind in the charred remains of the fire. Despite the family having moved on from their past lives and not showing any interest in the house, it remains a unique and fascinating place to explore.
    Join us on a journey of drama, intrigue, and heartbreak as we uncover the history of this abandoned house and discover the stories it has to tell.

    It's hard to believe that the house was built in the 80s. It looks like old France with an Italian touch. Shame to lose such a beautiful home to fire. Great tour as always Leslie.

    Something doesn’t add up. House was in the middle of being sold, catches fire no home insurance. All items left behind. I smell something nefarious.

      I would think with no homeowners insurance policy it's a loss (unless it factors into income tax)??
      I have heard of situation where the owners arranged (loss and lots of smoke damage)
      then run to cash in on the insurance, but not when there isn't
      I agree something doesn't add up (deleting coverage especially when you can afford it)
      Definitely positively heard of local poor people losing their home to kitchen fire and no homeowners insurance and then the community bails them out after.
      Bit mysterious

    • @ja-kaz
      @ja-kaz ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@RetroCaptain wonder if it was in foreclosure. They cancelled homeowners policy and set fire to the place to screw the bank.

    • @RetroCaptain
      @RetroCaptain ปีที่แล้ว +7

      @@ja-kaz Then the story of the family being famously wealthy must not be accurate.
      I personally would think that they would pay it off right away rather than go through the bank.
      I remember seeing quite a few foreclosure related "abandoned" videos around 2014 2015 and I don't remember any of them burned or vandalized apart from teenagers breaking windows and tagging.
      I still think something is out of the norm, but them supposedly super rich and leaving the fancy furniture and clothing behind because it smells now does add up.
      Once the Bentley has wrinkly seats ... you cannot be seen in it anymore...it's junk it's not impressive.
      I'm wondering if it had something to do with the deal the sale details...not getting the right price..
      If you could find out more about them the probable conclusion might be simpler.

      They probably had insurance. I’m a tri-state area local. This is so common for insurance collection in… some area communities, that it has the unfortunate stereotype: “j*wish lightning”.

    Leslie, I’m glad that you are doing the video without the others in the scenes. There is a reason why I only watch your videos and I won’t go into details, but the way you are so careful and respectful and also more quieter is just some of the reasons that I won’t watch other channels because they lack the qualities I mentioned that you always show us in your videos.
    In closing please do not get any influence or ideas from the other ones that are with you because it’s your unique way of doing these videos is what sets you apart.

    I lost almost everything in a fire when my oldest kids were very small. It's always difficult to see explores where the family was displaced by a fire. Fire and flooding, while opposite forces, are equally destructive and devastating. I'm happy to know that everyone escaped unharmed (as we did). This house must have been something else in its day. Even after standing abandoned, the architecture is still beautiful!

    When I was 17, there was a fire in our home. There was considerable smoke damage everywhere due to the heat that is in even the parts of the home with no flames. That smoke damage is almost impossible to remove from anything. Even after cleaning, the odor and soot color remains

      Be it known:
      Through the Holy Spirit, God has put it on me to preach to those lost in the devil's deceit!
      I tell ye, truly, Jesus of Nazareth is the propitiation for the whole world's sins. He is the anointed one, for he is, Jesus Christ. God the Father has raised him from the dead; who is gone into heaven, and is on the right hand of God! Angels and authorities and powers being made subject unto him.
      Jesus is the way, the truth, and the life: no one comes to the Father, but by him. They who believe and are baptized with the Holy Spirit shall be saved; but they who believe not shall be damned. For they who believe not on him, shall die in their sins!
      I tell ye now to repent of your sins, accept Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior, and you'll receive the gift of the Holy Spirit upon asking the Father!
      There are *NO* sub-divisions of Christianity. You're either a disciple of Christ or not. A Christian is someone who follows God's word, not a religion. Who obey the Father and follow his will; not man's nor their own heart's. Unless you keep Jesus' commandments, think not the Holy Spirit will dwell within you!
      They who heed this message and did what was stated with an open heart to God...
      Read the Holy Bible (KJV) daily and every time before you read, pray to the Father and ask:
      "Lord I ask that you give me understanding of your word, that I interpret it the way you want me to, and none of my own. I ask you in Jesus' name, amen."
      1 John 2:2 KJV
      2 And he is the propitiation for our sins: and not for ours only, but also for the sins of the whole world.

      27 *For they that dwell at Jerusalem, and their rulers, because they knew him not, nor yet the voices of the prophets which are read every sabbath day, they have fulfilled them in condemning him.*
      28 And though they found no cause of death in him, yet desired they Pilate that he should be slain.
      29 *And when they had fulfilled all that was written of him, they took him down from the tree, and laid him in a sepulchre.*
      30 *But God raised him from the dead:*
      31 And he was seen many days of them which came up with him from Galilee to Jerusalem, who are his witnesses unto the people.
      32 *And we declare unto you glad tidings, how that the promise which was made unto the fathers,*
      33 God hath fulfilled the same unto us their children, in that he hath raised up Jesus again; as it is also written in the second psalm, Thou art my Son, this day have I begotten thee.

      16 He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned.
      John 8:24 KJV
      24 I said therefore unto you, that ye shall die in your sins: for if ye believe not that I am he, ye shall die in your sins.
      Acts 2:38 KJV
      38 Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.
      Luke 11:13 KJV
      13 If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children: how much more shall your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to them that ask him?
      John 14:21-24 KJV
      21 *He that hath my commandments, and keepeth them, he it is that loveth me: and he that loveth me shall be loved of my Father, and I will love him, and will manifest myself to him.*
      22 Judas saith unto him, not Iscariot, Lord, how is it that thou wilt manifest thyself unto us, and not unto the world?
      23 Jesus answered and said unto him, *If a man love me, he will keep my words: and my Father will love him, and we will come unto him, and make our abode with him.*

    Adding to the fire damage, the smoke damage is horrendous! If my home burned I would not be able to return because of the painful memories it would bring up. As for the holes in the walls, my thoughts were they were made by the firemen using an axe looking for hot spots so the fires did not rekindle. Awesome video Lesly!

    Yet again a beautiful video. I was 4 years old New Years Eve 1964, mum out with sister buying things for return to boarding school. My father, a caretaker of large secondary school. One dog & myself in his care we were at the school. Still not yet dark dad nearly finished locking up, our neighbour had drove to front entrance shouting dad's name. We all bundled into his car I was oblivious to what was going on. We could walk to our house in 5 minutes, in the car dad ran from the car to our home & 3 Fire Engines.
    I remember everything and the smell, sounds and noise from the neighbours. In my home now I have bedroom furniture 72 years old, writing bureau, quilted bed cover & ornaments. Yes on occasions the furniture on very damp days the smoke still apparent. Ornaments colour changes , photographs some faded or discoloured. Memories 101%, we lined in that house another 26 years after the fire, I had to live with brother & sister-in-law for 6 months. I still have a mound of one shilling pieces from the utility meters that had melted together into a heap. That home was scarred, but not rich. Much was lost and parents had to get by. If there had been any money then as devastated as you are you just pick up again & make it better.
    The videos all have wonder stories, a lot is to leave alone is cheaper than the Inheritance tax which would have to be made. However, its heartbreaking to see all the personal treasure left untouched. How lonely the last inhabitants must have felt

There can be a lot of poisonous gases that are not seen. these gases can be deadly. I woudl think that is why things are left behind after a fire.

    let me educated you a bit :)
    the pic of the boy with all of the signatures is from his Bar metzva aka 13 bday.
    The plastic heads are for the woman's wigs and hats (something religious).
    Tamari is a girl name :)
    Totty is a father or a grandfather and bobby is grandmother
    about the beds- its a religious thing, even if they are married they cant sleep on the same bed when the woman is in her period.
    the thing about the girlfriends at 19 its not true, at 18 they can start asking for matchmaking in which Jewish singles are introduced to one another in Orthodox Jewish communities for the purpose of marriage.
    i loved the fact that you respected the house and it was a great tour.

    "Why wouldn't they take their clothing?" Because the smell of soot & smoke is very difficult to remove.

    • @susannemaggrah4529
      @susannemaggrah4529 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes, I know this to be true from personal experience. All my clothing. Bedding, linens that weren't ruined by water and/or smoke had to be dry cleaned. That worked perfectly and fortunately my tenants insurance covered that. My furniture couldn't be saved but the restoration company were able to give me back quite a few things like family albums, some books and a large framed picture. Nothing wooden, as they absorbed too much of the smoke smell.

      The old photographs could have maybe been saved? Sad to see those left there, perhaps they weren't allowed to return, due to reasons legally. Some insurance companies have strict policies.

    Regarding the house plans you saw: Previous explores revealed that at some point there was an attempt to try salvage the home which obviously has been abandoned. They were evidently looking at how something was done from another house, and put in this one in the original.

    I worked for a restoration company when I was 18-19 and it was a very eye opening experience and how everything you worked so hard for can be gone in the blink of an eye, just talking with some of the people and listening to their life story's leading up to and after the fire is very saddening to say the least.

    I’m from Upstate New York, in a region known as the Finger Lakes. I wonder just where you are…upstate is quite large. After seeing the thumbnail, I thought it was in Europe! Very nice to have the four boys turn up to give you a little insight into the Jewish culture…and save you from a parking ticket! Are you enjoying your time here in the USA? I hope so. I loved the video of your grandfather’s house. Searched for your grandmother’s but couldn’t find it. Maybe you can help me. Well, take care.

    What a beautiful place, so many memories. You're right. From the outside the construction is very German, from the inside very American. The house could certainly have been saved in Germany, but since so much wood is used in America, it is no wonder that it is so destroyed. All the antique furniture alone is worth several thousand euros. do you know what caused the fire? I don't think fixing this house would have been worth it. Building or buying new is much cheaper. It's just so sad that all those memories are burned away. Many greetings from Germany.

    I'm usually not much for mansions in general. The layouts and such just don't interest me much, but this place was absolutely gorgeous. Especially, that dining room and seeing glimpses of what the kitchen and various other parts of the home looked like before the fire. So sad seeing all of those memories left behind and what vandals have done to it. It hurt my heart seeing all of those nice paintings (signed ones at that) along with the pictures, clothes, and other memorabilia left behind. I have to say if my home wasn't completely destroyed in a fire, I would be going around and salvaging what I could. So much in that home could be salvaged. I hope the family eventually does. Awesome video. Thank you for taking us on tour of such a beautiful home and sharing its history.

    Multiple kitchens are normal in the jewish faith because they practice kosher and that means a kosher kitchen must have two different sets of utensils, one for meat and poultry and the other for dairy foods. There must be separate, distinct sets of pots, pans, plates and silverware.Where there is only one the use is strictly divided to keep it kosher.

    I would think that going back would also be depressing for the family,. Seeing all your possessions if not distroyed, then smoke and water damaged. Also do they want to spend hours going through hundreds of tems smelling them to see how badly will it stink. Then take some items to a new place and have some residual smell of smoke like a campfire in your house all the time,,

    Really interesting home. For your information: religious Jewish homes can have two kitchens some times, but must have two refrigerators, two dish washers, two stoves, separate dinner wear and eating utensils. When a home is kosher they don't mix dairy products from meat in any way. This home was odd since it appeared for a religious family, but having a sauna.... that is a bid odd!

    • @faigie2002
      @faigie2002 ปีที่แล้ว

      No, they don’t need two refrigerators or stoves. They do have separate meat and dairy utensils and pots etc.

    • @phyllishershkowitz3806
      @phyllishershkowitz3806 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@faigie2002 It is my experience that because dairy and meat are kept separate SOME homes not only use separate utensils and pots but separate refrigerators and dish washers. There are varying degrees of kosher depending on how orthodox they are. And, how about the sauna? Not something I would expect to find, what do you think?

    • @janettesweet6087

      I learned about the two thing when I worked for a Jewish family. I have found one of the 10 Commandments was not to mix kid meat with mother's milk. Meaning goat. Goat meat is tricky thing.
