It's not the responsibility of Bros of Decay to do anything with all the things left. The children and grandchildren should have the decency and respect enough to at least remove personal items and photos. It's heart breaking to see all the photos left. I'd love to have photos of my grandparents and their life. Photos can now be scanned to computer then downloaded to a flash drive or thumb drive for keeping. It would be better than just leaving EVERYTHING to the elements.

Before I’d pass judgement on the children, antecedents, I’d want to do a little more research-it’s possible they may have died sometime before Mary. First, I’d look for papers that may mention the illness/passing/funeral announcements, etc., of family members and so forth.
Perhaps even more saddening is that no one may ever read my comment here-or anyone else’s-concerning the family/events.

I hope she wasn’t left alone with dementia, even with notes. I had a neighbor with dementia who wandered off.
One morning, very early, I heard a knock at my back door and there was Mr. Bolte and he was crying. I asked him what was wrong, thinking maybe his elderly wife had passed and he needed help. I brought him inside and then he asked me if I knew where he lived. He’d gone for his customary morning walk and couldn’t remember where his house was. If he’d walked a little further he may have seen his house and recognized it, but I am glad he recognized my house and stopped to ask for help. I have to admit it made me cry too. He was always so sweet to my sons, chatting with them through the fence. I walked him next door to his house and checked on him regularly after that.

I had an elderly man show up at my back fence- I have rural acreage and just happened to be nearby. He had come about a mile down a mountain through the bush. I bundled him into my truck and prayed to God he could show me where he lived, and he did. The daughter was in the yard distraught, and grateful. I realised afterwards that many people would have called police, creating most likely a huge problem for the family. Years ago another neighbour, who I already knew, showed up at the local store where I was working- he couldn't remember how to get back home. It's life I suppose. Heavens, and the man who called me at the store to tell me he thought he had had a stroke as he couldn't get out of his chair, ever so polite he was, but interesting that his first thought was to call someone he knew rather than the ambulance. These kind of communities are sadly dying out :(

I've got to say that I cry almost every time I watch your videos, and that's no disrespect to you Lesley and Denny. But I imagine in my head all these happy people living their lives, doing things that they enjoy, and raising their children! This couple had a wonderful life and seem to truly have loved each other and I imagine Mary ( I hope that I didn't get the name wrong) spending those last years alone! I believe that we all continue on past our lives in our stories and I am the keeper of these 2 spinster sisters life stories who lived together and looked after cats which people threw over their fence! But apart from that they shared many, many stories with me but no one wants to hear about them anymore and, because they are the last of the linage of, quite possibly, one of the Duke's of Bedford in England and his French mistress, who's name their father took and consequently so did his daughters, their name will, when I die, l never again be remembered!. I think that's why I am always so moved by your videos guys because you keep these memories alive by taking us with you on these voyages of discovery! We walk through these places with you! I don't know if anyone reading this has ever watched the movie "The Others" with Nicole Kidman" but I loved that movie because it mentions the "Other"people who's history is shared in the home, by many generations. I'm sorry that this is so long but thank you for reading! Love the channel.

What a fascinating story of the two spinsters! Could you record their back history and as many stories as you can remember, then give a copy to the local historical society? Just a thought to keep their memories alive....so happy they took care of the apparently unwanted cats-I raised 8 kittens (two litters left in my yard by a feral cat), and am now enjoying life with the last surviving one who will be 19 this Oct. 😺💕 It saddens me too to see all the abandoned memories and things created with love. Thank you for sharing your story.

@Nancy Carlson It's funny you know, and not in a humorous way, how animals can tell what kind of person you are and whether it's safe to come and try and find a home! I'm a real cat person but when Ethyl, the older sister who would be 91 if she was still alive, and Winifred the younger sister would be 87 and turning 88 next month, were alive I was raising my children and working a lot and I didn't have the time then that I have now to put tiwards animals, but these days my 5 cats, all rescues, are my world. Ethyl and Wyn were born in Sydney, Australia in the 1930's into poverty and they lived in the inner city in a place near Ultimo, but I can't remember what the town was sorry and they shared how their father always seemed old and the only photo I've seen of him he WAS old. They were not close with him! Their mother would clean the local Catholic Church and Convent and the nuns would make the girls beetroot sandwiches and occasionally, if their mother was there on a Sunday afternoon, they would give the girls the remains of their roast luncheon. The sisters were NOT people people but their neighbours knew they loved cats and so kittens and mothers etc would be dropped over the fence to them and they'd come outside and find them. When their mother finally died the sisters sold the property and moved as far away from Sydney as they could which still had an active train line. So in the 1970's they moved with 20+ cats to their home at Blackheath in the Blue Mountains. I could go on for hours but I'm just going to share the reason why they spent their lives in ill health. Their father went to the pub on a Saturday afternoon, and then, and ONLY then, did their mother give them the castor oil that would allow them to do their Number 2's! True, they were NOT allowed to go to the toilet for a longer visit on any other occasion in case their father needed to use the facilities, and he would fly into a rage if one of them was in there!. NO surprise that both of them died of bowel obstruction related issues! They've been gone 25 and 21 years, and I will inquire as to whether the Historical Museum has an interest in their stories! I don't want them to disappear from history! I hope that you have a great day Nancy. Thanks for your reply!

    Hello guys.
I remember seeing this house explored by someone else at least seven years ago.
It was not much different though less dug through.
I think the electrical panel was operating and lighting was on.
The stereo (record player) was on the TV.
Many items and the style is similar to my mother's mother.
I can't remember if the art was still on the wall, I'm thinking it was.
The picture of Emily and the school or church pictures were the daughter.
The film items set up high are
    "Previewers" for editing purposes.
The actual Projectors look like a suitcase & the screen a long tube on a stand.
They're missing and I don't remember seeing them the last time either, (or her cameras, which would have been a
Polaroid One Step (circa 1977) (from memory)
& a mini "110"(example Hanimex like I had, or Vivitar, Kodak, perfect for travel). I also had one as well). Both were "point and shoot" no focus type camera.
I think the mystery easy for me to solve why it sits 18 years.
Emily and her husband currently own it and it will be handed over to the grandkids when they pass away. The "children" will be around 80 at least.
I agree it's sad that the pictures sit fading away which is what literally happens when they sit on a table in front of a window...fade away to blank like the memory.
The grandkids probably have no idea what to do with them and don't recognize the people except for the grandparents.
    They're probably busy with instagram.
The "stone wall" was a very necessary thing - the Chimney -
I hope the grandkids show up and look after it before idiots burn it down like happened around here.

This wouldn't happen if humans were willing to live in a healthy interconnected society, made of close-knit communities that would support and value each member.
There could be centers dedicated to history and storytelling. Everyone could record their voices and their personal memories, sharing how it was while they were growing up & leaving critical knowledge (gardening, survival skills etc.. for future generations.
And their pictures would be available for all to access- to put a face with the the voices.
I fear that soon, there will be millions of such ghost-homes as this- abandoned and left with fractured memories inside. So very sad...😔

I thought once of writing a small book of 'lessons' for people who come after but realised that the knowledge is mostly out of date. Tips on how to make the butter turn quickly. How to tell if a cow has milk fever or if it's something else. Changing the leathers in the piston pump. Even how to tie the cow's tail to her leg to keep from getting swatted while milking. This is all just useless now. Even garden things- the kids all eat store bought, they aren't interested. Even the recipe for the loaf of 6 strand braided bread I made every single night when they were growing up, they have no desire for it. When we get old we realise just how very unimportant many things really were, which seemed important at the time.

@@Chahlie I think your information is vital. For example, think of "The Carrington Event" of 1859. The sun put out a high level X flare, and the technology of the time was toast. It burned through the newly invented telegraph lines- wherever they were located.
Now we are light years more dependent on our technology. Carrington Event type flares happen every 150-200 years. If we don't have instructions for & knowledge of "the old ways", we are up the creek without a paddle. No one has the whole picture on a subject, so those with some knowledge are doing our species a service by recording it.
I am 60 now (61 next month), with one son who knows more of the practical matters because his dad taught him (& me) car mechanics, carpentry, cooking and other skills. He was taught the old ways by his dad-& had I known he would have such a short life, I would have insisted that he start a book or manual for us.😔
So your info is vital! I'm thinking of starting a collab, for production of an electronic document- one that we could all edit and add to...kind of a wikipedia of common sense & common skills. Then anyone with foresight could print it out. It probably should be etched in stone! LOL, but that's another project.
Heather it is so sad that most don't think of such contingencies. You are a treasure of knowledge, unacknowledged of this by those who most need to learn it. I really believe that will reverse- for good or for bad.🙏🏼

We enjoy watching you guys so much, it's always a good way to spend the afternoon after a busy week.❤️ When you called the telephone "the horn" I was a little surprised because that's what my dad always called the phone, he'd announce "everyone pipe down, I'm on the horn". I also had thousands of photos of my kids growing up, work on the house and property, endless Christmas and Easter and Hallowe'en photos. And back then it was quite expensive to have them all printed. I went through them all and gave each child an album full and then threw away the rest. So many of just flowers and sunsets and so on. Pets. Chickens. Pigs. Cows. At least now people can save them electronically. It seemed such a waste, and honestly nobody will ever be interested in the sunflowers in 1986, or the heart shaped potato in 1992.... I did keep one album for myself, I suppose for when I'm in a home or in another country perhaps.
When you get old the past is just the past and what matters is right now. Perspective changes.

I believe the photos left behind shows how little we value tangible memories anymore. It irritates me that we really don’t have cameras that hold film. Everything has gone to technology and in my opinion is easily “deleted”, as though the people never existed. I have raised two sets of children. My first four children lived to the teenage years, and were unfortunately lost in auto accidents on their way to school, my three girls in 2000, my son and two of his friends on their way to the technology center in 2001. My husband was lost in 2020, but our “second” family, two girls, one ours one adopted, still here with me for a while yet, are 17, and 16. The amount of memories of the first is vast, but of the second very few. The reason isn’t because of lack of pictures taken, but because electronic devices have taken those memories to technology heaven with them. It infuriates me that I don’t have these memories to give them. But in reality they have been programmed to a throw away world. None of what 45 year olds and up had valued matters anymore. Most walk away from houses that weren’t put in their names as inheritance taxes usually take all value it would give, banks don’t want to clean them, agenda 2030 has everyone in 15 minute cities. So it becomes a throw away house, that was “a home”. Nothing of value to the youth of today. So sad, but in truth when you die, only your better half valued you and your lifetime. God grants us our growing and learning space here on this plane. He was gracious and honorable with his love for our growth in spirit. But man’s world is harsh, cruel, and cold. I miss my other half, he was my world. The world has lost its colors and meaning. I am going through my home and cleaning so my girls don’t have to. But have learned, my life, our lives, only matter to God and you.

I will never understand why people disrespect their parents and grandparents belongings and houses like that! The furniture seemed in good condition, they could have sold or given to charity shops. All the photos could have been put into albums for future generations to have history of their family. The house also looked still liveable. Cleaned up, the family could rent or sell. A disgraceful waste and disrespect! However a very interesting explore, the house looked a it's bigger on the inside l was nicely surprised. Hope Danny feels better by now.🦘😟🥺😕🤨🤗

One of the things I really like about you is your respect for the personal items you look at. You gently look at the items and then return them to exactly where you found them. Some explorers just drop the items on the floor after looking at them. Who knows, maybe the families will return the day after the shoot to claim their relatives photos and personal effects. They do belong to someone. ❤

The lp, or long play albums, are the larger ones in the cardboard sleeves. They run at 33 rpm
The smaller ones, with the large holes in the middle, called 45s because they run at 45 rpm. You needed a plastic insert, to use them on the turntable, the odd turntable gave you a round insert so you could play the 45s.

(I had an old 45 of a Beatles song when I was little.) The bigger ones played at 33 rpm. They had an entire album on them. I had several Beatles albums on vinyl when I was younger. Ah.... good memories. I still have my albums to this day, and I will never get rid of them.
