They're called the dark ages because there is very little contemporary writings about what was going on at the time. Most of what we know about this time is from archeology.
@@magster6022 After the fall of the Roman empire there were very few people that could read and write and no standardised way of writing Celtic languages of Britain existed. Rome was notorious for writing their history and culture down whereas native Britons passed their history and culture down orally before and after the fall of Rome.

The crew of tank 796 may well have been brave enough to get to the Hindenburg Line but the question still remains why the other tanks didn't. Some geeky archaeologists 100yrs later can't possibly think they can so readily refute the Australian claims on the basis of the bravery of just one of the tank crews.

I thought prehistory was the time before writing. Wasn't that longer than 2500 years ago? Maybe more like 5000 years ago before Mesopotamia? I don't think you can call the artifact which was dated at 2500 years old "prehistoric".
Historical timelines aren't fixed they vary around different regions of the world. We use broad terms like pre-history, bronze age, iron age, medieval etc but when you look deeper into various countries/regions these phases come and ago in different time frames. USA, Canada. Australia etc pretty much bypassed them all overnight.
How else does one discover history? In the UK & other countries in the REST of the world, "digs" are a way of life. The USA , has thousands of years of history, but it's illegal to dig ,( other than European immigrants...or, dinosaurs), it. The rest of the world has millions of years of history. I do realize that it's distasteful to you, but if you'd watch enough of these type of programs, the few bones taken for research are returned to their place of burial.(usually, depending upon the site). In the UK , prior to excavation for any building of a home, roadway, etc., (gardening is ok), the area must be "cleared" of any archaeological history prior to any excavation. That's why these shows are so popular. In the UK, if one is metal detecting & comes across 10 coins or more in a spot, it must be reported to the government. Check out gold hoards in the UK. Amazing "finds"... Cheers & enjoy.
I find these people so solid in their statements, "this is the way it is without doubt" until something else in time is found shooting down their all knowing attitudes in things. I never hear "So far we think" or we think this is, , , but rather "We are the science and you better listen to us", the arrogance is deafening.
Why would you be so disrespectful to someone who took time to put their loved ones to rest, sickening as a Viking I feel sorry for your Angelo Saxon ancestors who your stealing from
Even Viking boat burials are dug up in Scandinavia and other places. The excavations a lot of times are done by archaeologists because of housing or road construction so that the value of the information from the archeology will not be lost. Also basically if you don't like what they're doing in these shows then don't watch them.

I can't decide whether the book is worthy of the binding or the binding is worthy of the book.
In either case, this is truly brilliant!
It's cool seeing shit from 2 millennia ago, we weren't really that different😊

Prof Alice is an extremely interesting person. These videos are more detailed than most of the others.
I am watching from Australia and I love this. I don't think it made our TV here.
The great thing is there are so many to watch!
Love to see Raksha!
It’s like running into an old friend!
The "Dark Ages" were not really so dark. People were travelling, making elaborate items, had burial rituals and MORE.
They're called the dark ages because there is very little contemporary writings about what was going on at the time. Most of what we know about this time is from archeology.
And isn't it curious that nobody kept written records?

I'm charmed by the hosts accent, and the difficulty the transcriber has with it. "Houses" becomes "hazes," for example.
Thank u for all these lv them all n the long ones. But please help w the volume of some of them..thank u and blessings

Is there a certain dress code to do archeology
@2:27:21 Why? Do you find documenting the digging up of graves ‘with your boobs hanging out’ - to be odd or disrespectful in some way?!

What the children saw would be the norm nothing outrageous to them I would think
re the chariot find, just shows how bloody cruel and pathetic humans always have been towards their animal companions.
Maybe the Romans got there skills from the people before them.
Weird they think they have the right to just dig up cemeteries
the dead don’t care
@machiavelligaming9755 did you ask em?
@@rawdawgg_lol yes they wrote the dead a letter and gave them several hundred years to get back. No response, so on they went. 😅

So there's only female archaeologists in the UK?
Are you high, or did you not watch ?
Correct. The males were sacrificed to appease the gods of grave robbing.
Yes, all the male ones you saw are cyborgs!
@@shemanicmaid So is it only female presenters of archaeology that are legally allowed to work in the UK?
I only saw 2 genders which is making me really upset. Why aren't there other genders than these 2 working the digs???? I will file a complaint. 😢
All very interesting but sadly not much use to me in 2024 to much money invested in the past plus over paid
