    I do books for a small business and need to discuss an issue with the IRS. They say only the president of the company can speak to them and I should do this form. Is this really true? It just adds a layer of difficulty that neither the pres or I want to deal with.

    Hi I was wondering if you could help me ASAP
    what do I put in section 3 'tax information' if I just want to use the 8821 to obtain one specific letter, namely the 147c letter from the IRS.

    Thanks for the video. How long does it usually take after I file the form to get Form 8821 approved so I can receive transcript information for my client?

      Hi! You can expect it to take about 2 weeks. If you need to get information quicker, you can call the practitioner priority line and fax the 8821 while on the phone with the IRS employee. tel:866-860-4259

    What does section 4 - 'Specific use not recorded on CAF' mean? And why, if I check that box, can I NOT check either option in section 5 'Disclosure of Tax Information'?

    • @getcanopy
      @getcanopy  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Toni. According to the IRS, "Generally, the IRS records all tax information authorizations on the CAF system. However, authorizations relating to certain issues aren’t recorded." Examples of specific uses not recorded include: 1) Requests to disclose information to loan companies or educational institutions, 2) Requests to disclose information to federal or state agency investigators for background checks, 3) Requests for information regarding forms such as Form 2553, W-4, 843, etc, 4) and more. You can find a more complete list on the Form 8821 Instructions. The instructions can also provide more information about Section 5, but in general, if you submit Form 8821 for a reason outlined in Section 4, the IRS will not have a record of your authorization on file for future use, including disclosure of tax information.

    If i sale a meteorite i found for 80,000 dollars, is this part of my income i made that year? Do i have to pay taxes on it or is this tax free money i made that year?

    • @getcanopy
      @getcanopy  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi! We recommend double checking with a tax professional, but most likely the meteorite would fall under sold goods. Sold goods don't fall under taxable income if you sell them for less than their original value. If you sell them for more than their original cost then you have to pay taxes on the surplus as capital gains.
