  • Rendering jewelry is notoriously difficult. It's primarily a lighting exercise. So, I set out to render a diamond ring on a white background in KeyShot. Now you can do it too! Free project files included! Thanks to Ravi Vyas for supplying the great ring model!

    hi, before my question I wanted to let you know that I really appreciate your work, great videos!I have a quick question. I made a model in autocad, worked on it in Zbrush, and now in Keyshot for final rendering. All fine, except some of the edges on the back side, which are shown kinda transparent/ segmented showing construction wired. I tried different material or edited norms, no help. I noticed that bigger scales sometimes help, as a trick, but also no help here.
    would really appreciate your feedback thanks in advance and best regards

    • @WillGibbons
      @WillGibbons  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi, without actually seeing the image, it's very hard for me to guess what the cause of your issue might be. There is an option with a gemstone material where you can hide intersecting faces. I'm not sure if that might help you.

    Hi Will, I'm going crazy for your videos, you can explain very well solutions that I couldn't find in any lesson.
    I am left with a big and terrible question, is it possible to make a gem with inclusions, with imperfections? I'm going crazy and I can't find a way out.

    • @WillGibbons
      @WillGibbons  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The only ways I can think is to add bubbles (using the geometry node), or duplicate the gem, scale it down a bit, then make it cloudy plastic or scattering medium and use a density texture. I don't think it will look terribly good though.

    • @barabau
      @barabau 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@WillGibbons I had tried a similar solution, in fact the result was not very satisfactory, I also tried to create cuts and insert disturbing surfaces inside the stone and it seems a better result, I will try to combine everything: D thanks a lot for the answer.

    • @WillGibbons
      @WillGibbons  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      You can try looking at the KeyShot cloud library, but you should not need to. KeyShot's library should have most of those already included.

    On diamond adding roughness is breaking the dispersion.

    • @WillGibbons
      @WillGibbons  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      That's right. I didn't know this at the time I believe. Alternatively, you could use a small bump texture instead.

    • @WillGibbons

    • @WillGibbons

    Please tell me how to do diamond Boolean difference from prong in jewelers???

    • @WillGibbons
      @WillGibbons  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      You mean when the prong is overlapping with the diamond? You can use the diamond material in KeyShot and there's a checkbox to ignore intersecting geometry. This should help avoid artifacts from overlapping geometry.
