  • Hello and Welcome back.
Today I'm attempting to restore my gear knob by replacing the worn leather with brand new stuff.
It's my first ever attempt at this kind of thing. Will I stuff it up?
Please consider subscribing if you haven't already. It means a lot and it motivates me to keep new content coming.
    Thanking you in advance.

I just bought a Momo replacement. In my opinion better but obviously not original.
I have my original Sportivo gear knob the leather is OK but the metal finish is cactus.
Have you looked into short shift?

I have watched some videos on the Monkey Wrench and TRD short shifter installations and the price vs benefit isn't there at this stage for me. I'd rather spend coin on the Monkey Wrench shifter cable bushings to see if that cleans up the notchy feel of the shifts that these 6 speed boxes suffer from.
Back in the day when I had my AE82 Twin Cam the old man and I took out the gear knob, cut out an inch or two and welded it back together to create a short shifter and it worked a treat.
Are you interested in selling the factory gear knob?
