    P-bar swings are awesome because it bridges that gap between a technical skill that you
    see gymnasts perform, whilst also being extremely accessible to most people i.e. it is technical but not so technical that the average person can’t learn it.
    It’s an exercise where you’re are likely to be focusing on the movement so much that you don’t realise you’re exercising.
    It is a well rounded exercise needing mobility, balance and strength and whilst there
    are accessory exercises that will improve your swing, performing the swing will build these
    attributes.
    Finally, like many bodyweight skills, it is easy to scale to your difficulty level. You can stick to basic swings as a beginner or advance to swing to handstand if you want to eventually venture out of your comfort zone.
    Main points for P-bar Swings:
    1. (STATIC i.e. before and throughout the swing) Support position = straight arms, shoulders
    pushed down, point the toes, engage the core
    2. (DYNAMIC) Now that you're swinging there are two movements to think about:
    I. Hollow body = no breaking at the hips and piking
    II. Turn the arms/elbow pit out on the front swing and back in and round out the shoulders and chest into a dish shape on the back swing. The challenging part is not piking at the hips and always staying activated and extended in the core throughout the swing.
    3. (AIM) Aim to have your shoulders be the pivot point which remains static* and your body
    moves around it.
    *Of course there will be some lean to counteract your lower body but this should be kept to a minimum. It is more challenging the higher the swings (look at when I swing to handstand).
    ~SUMMARY~
    Pbar swings bridge the gap between normal person and gymnast. They allow Bob Newbie to borrow from gymnastics and effectively implement a technical exercise that improves their physical potential.
    STATIC = Straight arms + push shoulders down
    DYNAMIC = Hollow body, arms turned out on front swing, torso dished on back swing.
    AIM = Shoulders are pivot point + don’t exaggerate the lean too much.

    Good, fun video. The only thing I will comment on is the hollow shape. When I coach, they must always be in an arch shape. This will keep their head up, arms locked and strong body.

    As the filmer and witnessing Tyson lick the public dip pole at 1:48, I don’t think anyone realised that the pole was not cleaned and was rawly licked without any care by Tyson for this video and he didn’t get sick either 😂

    How do you bail safely ? If you go too far while kicking into a handstand, you can just roll, but on the p bars if you try to roll you fall on your face. Also you can practice rolling out a handstand way before you have a handstand, I don't see how to practice the bail on the p bars

    • @TysonE
      @TysonE  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Mickael C it’s a more advanced skill/position that you wouldn’t attempt without some confidence and prior experience with handstands. Usually you put a hand forward to catch yourself and either save it or come off the side. You don’t see ppl over rotating on pbars into a forward roll or similar because if you are generally experienced enough to have the body and spatial awareness that if you’ve got too much momentum carrying you over you can catch yourself/adjust before you’re at the point of no return.

    Can these swings help develop the necessary muscles that contribute to a planche? Specifically, the muscles in the shoulder / scapula that help maintain the horizontal planche / adv. tuck planche body position.

    • @TysonE
      @TysonE  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think you would need to understand the body position for planche (amount of lean, shoulder protraction, hollow body) first, as a p-bar swing isn't exactly a planche lean on the back swing unless you make it that way. Personally, if available, I do these swings as a warm up for planche training.

    • @leo8888
      @leo8888 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@TysonE Thanks Tyson. Yeah, I think I'm a little lost on the mechanics of the planche. The reason for this question is that when I do a tuck planche (between tuck and adv. tuck planche), I can only hold the uppermost position for a second or two, which I understood to be due to insufficient strength in some of the upper back muscles. So the idea is to practise scapular flexion with these swings to build the required muscles.

    How do I jump over the bar without touching it with my legs? I mean to come down from the P bars

    • @TysonE
      @TysonE  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Practice. I don't think about it really but it's as I'm coming into the front swing. Better way to come off is to stop swinging and drop down between the bars.

    Why not go into v-sit on the front swing? It probably won't help your swing to handstand, but I think the p-bar swing is a good way to get into alternating manna and planche with assistance from momentum.

    • @TysonE
      @TysonE  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey Lennart, you pretty much answered your own question, it wouldn't help with the swing (see 7:21).
