Okay since people are making recommendations I'll list the ones I think are the most powerful for your Harry and fit the narrative you've crafted Brady:
    1. Finish the night club of the church. It would fit with a lot you've said in past episodes and it's one the highlight moments of the entire game and you even get the name drop. That's only half of the church stuff done as the other part leads to the secret ending of the game and you'd be playing this in January if you went for it.
    2. Find Harry's gun. It's SERIOUSLY important for the end game and an awesome moment for "Therapist plays" playthrough. Not just for Harry's character, but many others.
    3. Help Lena and Morel with their cryptozoology things at least a little, as it pays off in more ways than one.
    4. Take a peek or convince the book store owner to let you behind the curtains to see what's up. You've missed an entire area and characters with many Shivers moments.
    5. Deliver forged papers to Evrart Claire and the rest is up to you. Paint the wall, paint the ground, sing karaoke to let Harry express himself a little? These aren't important to the main plot of DE, but could fit the playthrough.

Make it a special play through and forget not only the necktie but the gun too! That'd get people either pissed off or amazed lmao. 😂
I think cryptozoology is important but Brady hasn't divulged in it much as he missed the bookstore too. He's got to finish the church though.

If there's one quest you should definitely try to finish before the endgame, it's the church storyline. It really ties beatifully into your musings about Terror Management Theory and the state of Revachol's youth. Also, it has the best Harry/Kim bonding moment in the game, hands down - if you manage to pass two particular checks (Savoir Faire and Authority).

  • @Fenrisaconite
    @Fenrisaconite 27 วันที่ผ่านมา +12

If you want to wrap up a few quests, I would say go talk to Smoker on the Balcony because doing so will trigger a thought that takes a while to unlock that can run in the background while you do other things, do the Evrart mission to find your gun (trust me on this, it's important), the end of the church mission is really meaningful, and the phasmid quest with the traps (it gives you some good opportunities to interact with Cuno and I think you'll like that.) And if you want to spend some time with Kim, get the Suzerainty game and play it with him.
And for what it's worth, I know you didn't want this to take 8 months, but I think a lot of us have really enjoyed how much you've delved into this game. It's a masterpiece and I'm so happy that I've played it, and that other people have played it, and that so many of us have had such profound experiences with this fictional world. I've played it 2.5 times, and it has made me sob countless times. Thank you for doing this series.

If there is one thing I've been waiting this entire playthrough to see are:
    > Your thoughts on the final things you need to do at the Church (remember that Shivers mentioned a hawthorne tree on the other side of the street from Roy's pawnshop you should check for that.)

      @Silent_Depths 27 วันที่ผ่านมา

Agreed but those aren't the "final things" at the church. After the night club the church is only half done and the other part has the hardest skill checks in the game which lead to the secret ending. I'd imagine just about every first time player misses it even if they've tried to complete everything related and unrelated to the club at the church.

    • @Silent_Depths
      @Silent_Depths 27 วันที่ผ่านมา

@@spectral_force5097 Yeah, it's considered a political quest although everything prior and post (Soona's research, Ruby's research, Noid's sines, the miracle of Shivers, the mural in the church, Sacred and terrible air etc...) leads up to it unlike with the other political quests, which were written afterwards. I bet it was cut from the original release for good reasons, even though the writers knew that's what they were aiming for with DE.
I was only stating the church isn't done when the club quest is finished. I wrote elsewhere Brady shouldn't try to go for it or any other political quests as it's long and wouldn't fit the narrative of this playthrough's Harry. I think he has locked Harry out of it anyway even though he found the moralist trousers, which are a failsafe for getting the quest started if I remember correctly.

The ending is indeed pretty long, but if you're eyeballing a future game, I think you'd get a kick out of Night In The Woods, if you haven't already played it. Shorter and less open than Disco Elysium, and arguably even more psychologically focused (though less examined). It follows a young woman in a fading suburb, struggling to come into adulthood and with her feelings of detachment and self-esteem. Also she's a cat and there's something spooky happening in the woods.

Take my suggestion with a grain of salt. Instead of hastening the end of your playthrough of this game, you could take a break from it and work on other projects for a few months. People suggest finishing the Church storyline, the cryptozoologist, getting your gun back, and peeking behind the curtain at the bookstore. All four of those are the big storylines remaining. However, and I could be proven wrong, finishing all four may take you into December with all the great analysis you do.
Regarding your roleplay, I think getting your gun back would make the most sense for your character's "growth." The gun is something he may want to find to clean up the mess he made.

  • @PKNoWins

Hey Brady! Regarding your initial comment to complete the game, I have some advice. I'll try to keep things organized and concise:
First off, I want to say that I totally support your notion to start wrapping things up. You're right to assume that the game's main quest has a ways to go, especially from an analytical perspective. If you did only the main quest going forward, you'd have at least 7 hour-long videos worth of content, and that's not counting any production time we don't see.
That said, I want to give you a fair warning: This is one of those games that tallies up most of the sidequests you do, and will, by some measure, comment on your actions by the end of the game. There may be parts of the climax and denouement that feel a bit lacking plot-wise if you happen to miss out on some obscure info. (However, you'll still get compelling character writing through to the end.) Also, you've seen plenty of it already, but be prepared for an inundation of comments lamenting you missing out on "their favorite part". (Funny how Disco Elysium's greatest appeal is its breadth of human emotion and experience, yet people will get mad and complain when you don't play how they want you to 🤔)

      [Non-spoiler quest recommendations]
      1) I'd recommend doing Lena's sidequest. There isn't much to analyze as far as I remember, you just have to make the rounds checking the traps so it won't take long. You'll get some closure on Lena and Morell's story (forget Gary though, he can pound sand 😤)
      2) A reminder about Evrart "holding your gun hostage". As far as Harry is aware, Evrart is the supposedly the only person who knows where his gun is. All I will add is: if you pursue this quest, you'll get a chance to expound on an aspect of mental health we haven't seen much of yet. The downside is, you'll have to wait until nighttime in-game to complete the last part of this quest. If that seems like a torturous amount of time, feel free to ignore this quest. The game will not softlock you for failing to find your gun.

You really don't want to miss the Church stuff. And it would also be sad to miss whats behind the curtain in the bookstore as well as the Karaoke session. And I would also recommend to finish the cryptozoologist stuff. Now I understand that it has been a long time since you started but keep in mind that you will NEVER again find a piece of art of this level in your life. It has never been done before and will never hapen again. The writing is just that good. Nothing comes even close. So why not try and get the most out of it. You definitely won't regret any of it.

    As for quests:
    -Definitely the church
    -Cryptozoology
-ABSOLUTELY the Karaoke, the tape is on the shore below the area you crashed the car, in some bushes around a swing
-Get that damn gun, also don’t forget to put the tie on before Ruby
    The small ones:
-You still haven’t asked the cook at Whirling about weird soup, that’s a quick one
    -The wall and Cindy
    -The rhetoric container
-Pass the check with Rene and his story
Also you could look up things about the mercenary via radio, if you had the number on his boots, i forget if you started it, that line might be gray at kims car

Your thoughts about Cindy reminded me of Slay the Princess. It's hard to describe that game, and it is very much a "go in blind" experience (much, much more than Disco Elysium), but I think I can sum it up: "Who are we, and who could we be?" It really changed me.
I also learnt recently that the developers of Slay the Princess are big Disco Elysium fans, which is very unsurprising. The games are radically different, and yet...

    1. Finish the Church
    2. Find your gun
    3. Dig deeper into the psyche of the cryptozoologist husband&wife
    4. Not really a side-quest, but visiting the crater south of the bookstore on day 5 has something that is worth briefly talking about imo.

Thanks so much for this series Brady, it's been an amazing ride. In the future and with the scope you analyse games, I can imagine you playing walking simulators, like Firewatch, The Vanishing of Ethan Carter, etc. There are many short games on that route (not an RPG like Disco Elysium) that will give you a lot to talk about in a shorter span :).

Well well, if you are looking for a comparatively shorter game with lots of wonder and exploration next, I'm sure I'm not the first to recommend Outer Wilds to you. It's up there as my favourite game of all time right next to Disco Elysium, for many different reasons. There is much less psychology to discuss and more of an overarching chain of events to discover and connect, yet it is still filled with a lot of meaning regarding life in this (or any) universe as an individual. Something tells me it would resonate well with you. And if not, you'll know after a couple episodes. The less you know about it, the better your experience will be. Anyway, I'm probably on board for whatever you choose to play next. Have a good one, Brady. Cheers from Germany!

As you're saying you're running out of steam on Disco Elysium, for a little pallete cleanser of a game I'd recommend two titles:
A Short Hike - a cute, not very deep, but very wholesome game about a teenage bird climbing a mountain to get signal so she can call her mom. 2.5 hours
Hypnospace Outlaw - a nostalgic and funny game about exploring old internet and personal websites, each different and expressive on the personality and life of its owner. 6 hours

Ok as a guy with a lot of sympathies towards anarchism and agreeing with most of their point’s until they start unironically arguing in favor of The Purge:
Saying “all these ideologies are extreme and haven’t achieved anything for me, Imma join anarchists” is the funniest thing! Like the most common criticism of anarchists is that they are utopian and don’t like anything that’s possible, there are like 3 examples of functioning anarchist societies throughout history. Meanwhile libs have the modern western world, tankies have USSR and it’s satellites, nazis and fascists point at third reich, Italy, Pinochet and generally strongman governments. Even monarchists have more to point towards in terms of their ideology achieving things.
Anarchism is more of a “I can’t agree with the rest of them because they all do immoral things that I cannot approve of”, not a “this is the best way to get tangible results”.

May i ask what you are going to do after Disco Elysium is over?
If you want to continue with gaming + commentary content, I personally would recommend The Menagerie Series, especially a game called Presentable Liberty. Unfortunately, this game isn't too big, it's about an hour long, but there's a lot you can talk about. This game raises topics such as depression, isolation, and loneliness during quarantine. I think a video like this would be very interesting because we ourselves lived through events somewhat similar to the game. What makes this even more interesting is that Presentable Liberty was created long before the corona

Your monologue about realizing you were looking for a hill to die on hit me pretty hard. I remember losing at least one friend when I was 18 because I said something that I thought was a REAL LIFE position and in hindsight was just a stupid thing to say in the moment. You've made me realize it almost certainly was due to insecurity in who I was at the time, and that makes sense - I really, REALLY don't like who I was until I was about 25. That guy sucked. At least now I have the self-awareness to know I sucked then and probably suck in some ways now.
As for Disco I'm going to vaguely dance around something that happened in my first playthrough that I don't want to happen to you. There's going to be a moment when you are in the middle of the climax of your investigation and the game is going to give you an option to do something that seems kind of pointless and even maybe dangerous to do. Just do it. I missed one of the most emotional, heart rending moments in the game my first time through because I thought "well that wouldn't make sense to do."

So I totally understand that this series has gone on longer than you expected, and you're probably eager to move on to other things. That said, maybe it would help to explain your points more concisely? In this video, you spent around 2/5 of the runtime on the same screen. Don't get me wrong- I really enjoy your commentary and the insights you provide. That's what we're here for, after all. But I think it might help the series feel like it's progressing faster if you spent less time on each topic and covered more ground overall. I get that these are deep topics, but this format doesn't always lend itself to going in-depth.

I'm going to disagree with most of the other commenters here: skip the sidequests and go straight to the final act, it's going to take a long time to wrap up at at this pace. The one thing I'd say is a particularly rewarding detour is getting your gun back, that one won't take long to resolve and has content it would be cool to hear a therapist's take on.
I'd advise skipping the rest of the church quests and the bookshop backrooms. The payoff is fun but it's a long process and leads you through a whole new area that isn't the game's strongest writing.
