    The zip off feature I agree is great. Bought some Velcro to do the same thing on my heavy base layer. Once done hiking or moving through the woods. It makes them really easy to put on without removing everything.

    Dan, I have over 1000 miles in 21 years in the military going commando. With a pack that weighs more than anything you have ever dreamed of hiking. From the desert to the jungles of Panama and Australian cungra.

    This is a disappointing turn for you and the channel. I was thinking when I saw the title I'd learn something, not an advertisement for a very subjective vendor. I hope they do well but they are more hype than substance at this point. Go to any number of sites such as hammock forums and get the truth. And the pants may be decent but seriously? Fair price? I think not. I want gear, I'm not in it to jumpstart the Outdoor Vitals "Tribe" as they call themselves. Sintax did this already for them and I've never respected his point of view since and no longer follow him. Disappointing Dan.

    Nice laying system Dan! I like the looks of these pants! I gotta tell ya they are almost identical to the grey wrangler flex outdoor cargo pants i have. The material on the wranglers are a little thinner and they don't have the leg vent but it has the same zipper pocket but on both sides of the pant. They were only $24.99 so i bought 3 pairs in grey, fallen rock kaki and camo. I have been wearing them off and on for a year now and they are an awesome budget option if you are looking for a similar pair to the vitals. Stretch waist is very nice too and large belt loop in the back. I use them for work and for backpacking. The other good pants i like are tru-spec expedition pants and fjallravens pants. The zip offs are nice too! But outdoor vitals gear is well thought out! Alot of good apointments with outdoorsman in mind! I would buy them!! The leg vent and stretch materials are a plus! Still searching for the right underwear for me though..ughh..Stay safe! Hike on!

    Hi!
    I got a question about sizing.
    Been seeing alot of your videos lately, and they’re great!
    When you talk about layers, down jackets and rain jackets, how do you go about sizing? I am between a medium and large in most clothes, so my logic tells me to go medium on inner and mid layers, and large in outer jacket, to make sure I have space for my inner layer(s) and my Mountain Hardwear Ghost Whisperer UL.
    It of course depends on the manufacteror, as sizing does vary, of course.
    How do you approach sizing on different layers?

  • @Robin-sm7um

    Agree with the comments that this just felt like a commercial. I do own and have used two of their underquilts and top quilts which are quite nice. The company has excellent customer support. Layering for hiking--I'll just stick with whatever merino tops/underwear I have and pile on for wind and water--works for me.

    I always wear lightweight, sweat wicking/antibacterial sports clothing when I'm hiking. I generally have boxers, but I've thought about trying long underwear. I like the zip pants. Reminds me of the snaps I had as a kid during basketball. I do have a couple pair of thin rip-stop cargo pants that are zip offs at the knee. I love those. Anyway, great video Dan!

    Dan, I like your videos, the humor, and the learning. I also understand the need to support your corporate sponsors, but $200-300 pants? Seriously? Wrangler Outdoor Pants at Walmart = $22. Built like iron, great fit, moisture wicking, and fast drying. Sitting in a room with $25,000 worth of camping gear does not impress me. Watching backpackers carrying over $3000 or more in gear into the woods leaves 99% of backpackers out of the loop. There's a difference between "getting what you pay for" and "paying for what you get". Its getting so when I see a "gear review" video in my subscription list, I just hide them and move on. Sorry, just my opinion.

    I have put a few hundred miles on all of this gear but the underwear. The dragon wool is outstanding. The hoodie is my go-to cold weather base layer. I love being able to drop my pants to add or remove my thermals. If I need them I'm probably standing in snow and do not want to take my boots off until it's time to sleep. The satu pants have an athletic fit. The fabric stretches we need it to. They're really comfortable and very durable. I'm not the biggest fan of the athletic fit but these work. They resist water and do good in the snow. They would do a lot better in the snow with a bigger cuff that goes over a mid boot. Sad to see they are discontinuing the zipoff thermals. You can get a good deal right now. Hopefully they're putting out upgraded versions. The material is awesome

    • @johnc2242

      Maybe I can help you out Perry - Dan isn’t trying to pull the wool over our eyes. He has been honest to this point, no reason to not trust him on this one.
      Outdoor Vitals is selling these pants and baselayers on Kickstarter. This is a website that allows crowdfunding (a group of regular people to invest in getting the product to market through purchases). Once the product is funded, the company places the order for the manufacturer to make the product.
      Why do this? It allows a company to not take on debt when putting out a new product. If nobody wants the product, the company will not put themselves in a financially risky position and the consumers get their money back.
      If people do want the product, the incentive to put money into the crowdfunding campaign is typically early receiving of said product and a discount.
      I’m happy to explain anything in more detail.

    • @johnc2242
      @johnc2242 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      One update to my comment above - the Kickstarter has been fully funded, so Outdoor a Vitals has moved to a different crowdsourcing platform - Indiegogo - for a second round of finding. This is similar to the jackets you can now find in their site.
      No need to be wary, as they have done this in the past and now have the previous product (jacket) available on their site for purchase.

    • @Wondering_Fireball
      @Wondering_Fireball 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      John C , thank you for explaining it. Question is if I sign up for this, is it one size fits all or will they contact us about the size we require?

    • @johnc2242
      @johnc2242 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Perry Kerr They will ask you about your size once they are starting production.
      Another thing to keep in mind - this is a very long process. I don’t know the typical timetable for Kickstarters, but their current one ended funding a week ago and the first shipment is projected for late October/early November. So it’s very much something to keep in mind and not a timetable that works for everyone. I personally don’t like to wait that long, but once they’re available for immediate purchase, I will be purchasing mine.
      I’m not trying to push you in one direction or another, I’m more so trying to point out that Dan isn’t sacrificing the trust he has built by showing us these products.

    The saying "buy once cry once" definitely applies to these products. I don't have any of these, since they're prototypes and unavailable to the rest of us. It looks like they should be in stock by now since you've had the items since 11/2019. If they're made in China, I can understand why it would be delayed.

    I avoid zippered pockets if I plan to sleep in the pants. Especially since I started using a quilt. Zippers can rub and snag against your sleeping pad.

    Outdoor garbage must be paying pretty good to ol' Dan to lie about their crap. Please put that money into some better gear to stop ripping people off!! JS.
    Snag the clothes once and it unravels and anyone that has seen the OV clothes knows!
    But I still love ya Dan-O!!!!!

      This gear is definitely not crap and I don’t make videos that are sponsored if I believe the gear is crap. This is definitely some of their best stuff. I’ve actually owned the majority of this gear since November.

    Got hooked on your channel a few weeks ago and must have watched over 50 of them as I prepared for backpacking. I've loved everything! So informative and you're entertaining.
    Just got done with a cold camping trip in the Utah mountains and was excited when this came out. I was hoping to learn layering techniques and maybe a few different product recommendations. This feels like a giant advertisement though and I'm disappointed and you've lost some credibility with a couple new subscribers.

      Hey Brent! I appreciate the support! This is a video that was sponsored by outdoor vitals. I was pretty clear on that at the beginning. My school of thought on sponsored videos is that if a company is willing to pay me to put tons of effort into filming about a product that I fully believe in, I’m happy to do that rather than them getting free advertising and using me as a platform. Any video that’s ever been sponsored on this channel is about a product that I believe in and have fully used and tested.

    This had nothing to do with your layering system. This was a 10 minute ad for a brand. Hoot you’re More transparent in the future.
